this is the second time we stayed at this place,it was coincidentally on my bday both last yr and this. The stay was comfortable as we upgraded to a club retreat room- $95/- per person. The furnishing is better than the standard room however the bathroom needs updating.Having said that the standard rooms look tired and old especially the bathroom .Overall stay was fine though the elandra retreat club is on the 28th floor and is a place you can go to chill out with refreshments offered throughout the day.
Staff were courteous and friendly.
I would definitely stay here again!

From the moment you walk into the most beautiful foyer you have ever seen, you will feel welcome here. We are a family of 4, with an 'active' 6 year old boy :o) and the staff are always friendly and welcoming, there is no 'stuffy 5 star' feel at all. The rooms are very comfortable, with the most comfortable beds and pillows - we all slept so well, they are well soundproofed and a decent size. The balcony is big enough to sit out on and the view superb - we were on level 23. Probably the star attraction at the Marriott is the pool area, has to be seen to be believed, huge lagoon pool with tropical fish, you can hire snorkels to wim with them- this is a salt water environment, fish feeding at 930am is worth attending, very interesting. The other pools are just as fab, a waterslide and waterfall, 2 spas, all in a natural and tropical setting. Pool bar available, try the watermelon mojito! The bearded dragons who also live in the pool area are gorgeous, as is the birdlife - look for bats at night. If you can, splurge on the Marriott buffet for dinner is a treat, kids will love the dessert decadence station, grown ups the seafood spread. All in all will endeavour to get back to this resort, felt so refreshed and spoilt, just what we all needed. Thankyou, Marriott, loved every minute.

Room Tip: If you can, book a ocean/pool view room, is worth it! Also the upper levels have great view, we were...

Having stayed here over a dozen times, I have to say the hotel just keeps getting better with every visit. The new renovations has done wonders with the new look lobby and restaurants also the new look in the rooms. The pool always delivers a fun relaxed vibe, plenty of cocktails and swimming there!
The buffet dinner and brekky are awesome! The only thing I encountered was on check out the receptionist forgot to reverse the amount on my partners credit card that they take upon check in which is the room rate plus am extra $100 bond. So we were charged our bill AND that price so we had double taken off our card and didn't realize till a few days later while checking online. One phone call later though the hotel organized for it to be reversed and it was. Other than that I will be back in January to celebrate my partners bday. So highly recommend ! A+

The Marriott is an excellent resort hotel in the Gold Coast region of Queensland.

If you are staying in the area, it is one of the hotels which is well worth considering.

The accommodations are excellent (they recently had a $20 million renovation) and the service is professional and friendly.

The hotel is a genuine (Australian) 5 star standard, with large comfortable and well appointed rooms, a range of bars and restaurants, and an outdoor resort area including an artificial beach, salt water pool and spa.

They have an excellent and hospitable executive lounge as well.

The staff are very professional and friendly, and exhibit a genuine pride in their hotel.

Is this the best place to stay in the area?

Before you decide, there's several things to think about:

1. The location is a little away from everything- it really is a self contained resort. That's fine if you're coming here for a relaxing time by the pool. or a convention/ conference.

It's a walk to the seaside beach (a couple of streets away) and a drive or bus ride (or long walk) to the shopping and restaurant areas.

2. It's a high quality hotel. It's luxurious yet restrained. In that respect, it's an alternative to the Palazzo Versace (Versace style opulence), the Sheraton Mirage (closer to the beach) or the Conrad Jupiters (adjacent to the casino, Broadbeach restaurant strip and Pacific Fair shopping center), which each offer a different type of experience.

3. The hotel offers very high quality professional hospitality.

Highly recommended

Room Tip: Executive retreat rooms offer access to the Elandra lounge- with complimentary breakfast and evening...

This was our second stay here, and we won't be going back. Where to begin... nice rooms, apparently refurbished. The decor was modern, but the bathroom certainly hadn't received the same upgrade (old tiles, dirty grout, etc). The mattress was horribly bouncy - the slightest movement of a partner had you bouncing around, not at all conducive to sleep. No comfort top on the mattresses, as at other Marriotts we've stayed.

We were given a hard sell upon check in... suite for $210/night more, better views for $50/night more, etc. Complete with room layouts on cards thrust in front of us. Would be very awkward to refuse if you were on a romantic getaway, and we found it rather irritating.

The thing the kids like best - the pool, was a let down. We checked in, hurried down to the pool, but at 3pm on a lovely hot day, we found everything shut down. Other guests (a couple) were also upset. Waterfalls turned off, 'current pool' turned off. Bar closed. Waterslide closed. Towel attendant's room, also shut. My husband wandered around trying to find a staff member for about 10mins, but no luck. Not a soul; we simply wanted a cold drink by the pool. Next day was the same - gorgeous hot, sunny day but if you swim or want a refreshment after 3pm, you'll find everything closed down for the day. Dismal.

With the 'Kids Club' costing $45 per child for one 2-3hr session (minimum 2 kids for your booking), we all ate at Benihana - a great restaurant usually. 6pm sitting, only one room of the several in the restaurant was being used, but the waitress hovered over us relentlessly, swiping plates of food before we'd finished (we kept having to ask her to please put that back). Even my chopstick holder was fair game, so for the remainder of the meal I used my son's. When it was time to pay, she hovered waiting until we presented a card. Neither my husband nor I had finished our glass of wine, and more was still in the bottle, but there she was standing over my shoulder. The poor couple next to us experienced the same... 2 fresh glasses of wine, delivered to the table together with the bill and the hovering waitress.

We asked to put the charge on our room. They came back and told us this wasn't possible and were hauled up to the front to use a credit card instead. It was humiliating. My husband has taken clients here before, and certainly wouldn't again. The same problem the next day - $17.50 for 2 beers, we were not able to charge it to our room. The very friendly pool bartender rang reception and sorted it out - the one incidence of professionalism we encountered during our stay. But it happened with the next round, so my husband had to get dressed and go inside to talk to reception. No luck with the lady there, and finally the manager arrived, and said there had been a 'computer error' and that he would fix it asap. To their credit we received one free round of drinks, but nothing in the way of an apology for either incident. Total lack of basic customer service and courtesy.

The following day went smoothly thank goodness. Only issue was that our room still hadn't been made up at 2:30pm, when we returned, having been out since 9am. The new restaurant looked good, but $117 for breakfast for 2 adults and two 6-yr olds seemed a bit extreme, and other menu items were similarly overpriced.

We found all pool staff lovely, but nothing else positive could be said. We found very little 'friendly' attitude, and were instead treated as if we were lucky to be staying there. We could not recommend this hotel to anyone accustomed to 5-star service and standards, and we won't be returning.

Room Tip: Hinterland rooms have partial sea views... do not be deterred by reception attempts to upgrade you t...

This hotel is a bit 80s and needed a bit of a freshen up- we stayed last year and I understand they have just had a large renovation- but the staff really shine especially with kids.
From the check in we were welcomed by a very personable young lady who from the onset had my 12yo twins onside by asking them their names and telling them about all the kids activities they would enjoy. She was a superb front person and immediately my kids felt no. 1 (and 2!!). It really is geared beautifully for families- my kids had an absolute ball with the pool, spa and slide. There is a number of great touches that keep kids amused and entertained- from the fish in the pools (don't miss feed time) to the semi-tame lizards and birds.
But really it is all about the staff here- personable, friendly, very approachable and fun- they obviously all love working here.
Highly recommended family get away.

Attending a conference on the Gold Coast and stayed at the Marriott Resort for three nights. We were lucky enough to stay in one of the recently refurbished Elandra club rooms. Quite spacious, with lots of light and plantation style design. King size beds, excellent quality sheeting, towels galore and a large bathroom with a very deep luxurious bath tub and separate shower. Bath amenities were good quality too. Room had side views of both ocean front and canals from a small balcony. Room was very clean and staff friendly and helpful. Whilst on this trip I had a back strain accident and the hotel concierge called for a doctor immediately who arrived well within the hour. Citrique restaurant has the best seafood and many other delicious dishes and a fabulous breakfast buffet too. Terrific lagoon pool with poolside service and tropical fish and snorkel equipment for hire for a small fee or you can use the other pool with it's waterfalls and water slide. Nothing is too much trouble for this hotel.

Room Tip: ASk for a room on south side of building for premium views and quiet location.
