Although we don't like this type of "hotel factory", we were booked here with a group.
Again at reception, our credit card should be debited for $ 200 for "eventual expenses"
We refused. We are no thieves. We pay our bill at check out.
The room was fine, well equipped, very clean.
The restaurant is a huge place and the food is not that great.
Breakfast was of a better quality but again first lots of paperwork before they let you in, then needed to change 3 tables before we found a clean one ( spots, breadcrumbs of previous guests on chairs etc ) And of course an army of staff sneaking around your table and taking away plates that were not even finished !

Dear Karel

We trust you had a safe flight back to New Zealand and thank you for taking the time to share your review with us on Tripadvisor. We certainly appreciate feedback from our guests and have made note of your comments, particularly when dining in Citrique.

It is a standard procedure that many hotels including our property, do ask for a pre authorisation or holding amount upon checkin just to cover any incidental purchases that are charged back to the room during the stay. It is definitely not our intention to inconvenience our guests in any way.

We hope that you will choose to stay with us again on your next visit to Australia.

We stayed at in December 2013 over the weekend that coincided with the Hotel's opening of the Xmas festive season which was great because we joined in the fun. We stayed in the Suite on the high floors with great view of the ocean. The room is spacious but does require a complete makeover to modernise it. Whilst the room looks like it has been renovated slightly, the bathroom still has a very 80-90's era to it but these are minor issues.

The pool is great for the family because there are the lagoon pool for some snorkelling, water slide, whirl pools, pool side water falls and plenty of equipment which can be hired (at a cost) to enhance the fun in the pool.

Generally, all the restaurants/ lounges in the hotel is typical Marriott, which serve good quality cuisine.

All staffs we encountered are all friendly, and service is always prompt & polite.

Some minor gripes are
- the gym & tennis court could do with some freshening
- there are sections of the hotel that still look its original age that could do with some freshening too

Location of hotel is fair as it is within walking distance to Surface Paradise.

We stayed here three nights and really enjoyed ourself. It's a very family friendly resort. We loved the snorkeling and pool area. Just amazing. The breakfast was lovely and in room dining was fast and efficient. The rooms were of a good size and the staff were very friendly. We will be returning for longer next time.

Just spent two nights at this great Hotel and once again left with the feeling it is one of best in Australia. The rooms are large and beds very comfy with balcony`s that have great views. We took our 3 yr old grandson with us who loved the lagoon pool and all in all he had a ball. Strongly recommend this Hotel for all ages.

Room Tip: Higher floors offer better views and overlooking the lagoon pool is lovely

My husband and myself and our 2 young boys stayed here for 2 nights during the Easter school holidays. We had a wonderful stay...
Good stuff- lovely staff, beautiful pool and gardens, lovely room with wonderful view even in the hinterland room( we could see the mountains, the city and the ocean). Lovely breakfast for the most part. Great location, 10 min work into surfers, lovely and quiet at the resort. Complimentary wine in room for my husbands birthday. Gorgeous hot tub in the cave was lovely.
Stuff that needs improving- admin - we were overcharged on our bill 2 times. Electronics-- key card often didn't work. Card to get out of carpark on last day didn't work and I had to go back to reception to get a new one. Food- bacon burnt both days at breakfast buffet, sauté potatoes raw both days. Coffee a bit yuck, for the price I think you should get proper coffee! Pillows were feather which were nice but they were just too thin, I had 2 and it still wasnt enough! Bathrooms need updating, it took about 10 mins to get the water temp in the shower right. Food and drink are 5 star prices which are to be expected but I did think charging $5 for a streets drumstick was a bit rich!!
We did have an issue with a unwanted wake up call at 3am but once we notified reception they were very kind, apologised profusely and gave us free day bed use the next day.
All in all it's a wonderful resort and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again It's the first time we have stayed in a 5 star resort that welcomed children and that was so nice. All if the little niggles didn't really bother us but wanted to note them as I know the resort uses these reviews to Improve service

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for an ocean room. The hinterland rooms have great views and if you are lucky like us then you will also see the ocean from your room . Room 1610.
