“Best on the coast”
Reviewed 13 February 2011

I believe there are only two true five-star properties in Surfers Paradise - the new Hilton and the older Marriott.

I returned to my old favorite, the Marriott, when one bedroom rooms at the Hilton couldn't be had for a reasonable price. Now I have found it again I won't be returning to the Hilton - Marriott has excellent service, the kind that only comes from a well grooved and well managed team, attractive (if no longer new) well maintained rooms, good food, free parking ($15 at Hilton) and, best of all, the rates are very reasonable.

Important! - there are two Marriotts in Surfers Paradise; this one is the better one

Service is exceptional! Lovely smiling happy staff, willing to help at all times. This begins from the valet as soon as your car pulls in, to the lovely staff on the front desk, to the cleaners and hotel staff. Our room was very spacious and had 2 large double beds. These are the most comfortable beds I have slept in yet! Lovely modern large bathroom with bath. Large widescreen tv with austar. Only downside is the in-house movies are $18 a pop, I thought this is too pricey. The lagoon was amazing and fantastic for kids, a little slice of the barrier reef in your hotel. Great kids activities. We went to the on-site Japanese restaurant and loved the food and show. All up a 5 Star service and hotel. Very impressed, we will be staying here again.

The hotel is lovely and the rooms are small but well appointed with balconies and very clean. I'm not a big wrap for the Gold Coast in general and we were just passing through but I would definatley come to this hotel again just to relax by the pool while my kids had an absoute ball in an out of all of the different types of pools. Yes there are fish in one of the pools, there is also a fun wirlpool and a couple of spas too. Give Wet and Wild a miss and spend your day here instead.

Our first trip to the Gold Coast to visit the theme parks with our tween aged children.
Many friends had recommended the Marriott and with the weather being so very unpredictable we thought staying at a hotel with its own "attractions" could prove wise if the weather let us down. The lagoon pool complete with tropical fish, waterfall and warm spa pools did not disappoint. A second pool features a whirlpool and impressive waterslide for the kids (or kids at heart). The four of us stayed in a refurbished Elandra room with two double beds. Access to the splendid Elandra Club ensured that we didn't get under each others' feet. We would have a drink and watch the sunset over the surf whilst the kids enjoyed an in house movie and the well priced kids room service menu.
The charge of $30 per child to access the Elandra Club is well worth paying as it includes a comprehensive breakfast, morning tea, midday light refreshments, afternoon tea, canapes and beverages and finally petite desserts and coffee. You were most welcome to help yourself to soft drinks and bottled water from the fridge and take away coffee cups are provided. The club service was warm and welcoming. At the Club our kids accessed the internet for free. Whilst the food offered in the hotel's restuarants is of a high quality, it is expensive. With this in mind, we didn't regret our decision to book an Elandra club room. Many very nice touches such as cool face towels handed out on hot afternoons poolside, evening turndown service with the usual chocolates but also boutique teas and gourmet cookies. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always smiling. Whilst not cheap the Marriott exceeded our expectations for an Australian hotel. As the saying goes "pay peanuts, get monkeys" whilst at the Marriott you get the service you pay for and much, much more.

After missing our 8am flight to Melbourne we decided to stay in Surfers for the night and take our 3yo son to SeaWorld. We called the Marriott en route and they generously allowed us to check in early. They also agreed that once we arrived we could have a look at the two types of rooms we were deliberating over. We arrived, reception was courteous and check-in efficient. Because we had a 3yo and a 6mo baby we decided on the suite which has a separate room and an extra guest bathroom. We wanted a late check out the next day at 4.30pm and that cost us only an extra $50. Cot was provided at no extra charge. The room decor was a little dated, but not offensive. The beds were great and linen good quality. If you had the balcony doors open the15th floor room was a little noisy because of the traffic below. Room service was swift and arrived within ten minutes on all three occasions.Room service staff were friendly and housekeeping staff delightful. We loved the pool and our son loved feeding the fish - a great kids activity. There is also a little playground for kids up on the 3rd floor (like the ones at McDonalds). Buffet breakfast was pretty standard of a large hotel, however we asked the Chef to make us an omelette and it was delicious. The woodfired pizzas (restaurant or room service) are also fantastic. The restaurant menu we thought was very American, surf n turfy with sauces and mayo on everything! Check out was swift and the staff retrieved our car and put our luggage in it which saved time in our race to the airport. Overall this place is great if you have kids and need to fork out for a larger room. We will be going back there. Couples or honeymooners wanting to avoid annoying families should maybe head to the Palazzo Versace.

From the time I checked-in to the time I checked-out, the stay was excellent.

Check-in was done by a friendly front desk staff. I had parked the rental car downstairs (great that it is free) and easy to find the lobby and reception.

The room was generously proportioned. The room had plenty of space and the bed was great and very comfortable. The bathroom has a large bathtub and separate shower. It was above average. The room has a storage cupboard which you can store your clothes and a luggage stand which you is like a mini walk-in wardrobe.

The staff are extremely pleasant.

I tried room service on two occasions and it was delivered promptly and tasted delicious.

I love the sand lagoon pool. It was like the beach within the resort. Great place to relax and order a drink. You could even get snorkelling gear to try and get a closer look at the fish (unfortunately did not see any).

The location of the resort is a bit further out from the heart of Surfers but if you have a car then it is easily accessible.

Great place to stay and highly recommend it. Two thumbs up!
