“Good fun feeling hotel”
Reviewed 21 February 2014

The recently renovated hotel has a fun hip feel. The rooms have everything you expect and a bit more. We had a oceanview room and even from the 9th floor the view was fantastic. The retro fitout of the room just brings a smile to your face. I don't normally like buffet breakfasts but Bazaar does a great breakfast buffet with the addition of some made to order stations and other "fun" touches.. The Stringray lounge was good for some afternoon drinks, however it turns into a very noisy bar/nightclub on Friday night (not that we could hear it from our room). If you're looking for somewhere at the Coast that is a bit fun, cool and hip then definitely give this a go.

Room Tip: the upgrade to an ocean view room is worth it

It helps when one's expectations are low to begin with and to be fair, one certainly doesn't travel to the Gold Coast expecting high levels of sophistication - you only have to look towards Versace's nearby homage to the style deficient to know that the perceived highest levels of grandeur are nothing more than a gaudy faux Italian façade that any true sophisticated traveller would find somewhat unsettling. However, I must concede that I was pleasantly surprised by the QT Gold Coast experience.

There is a sense of fun about this hotel that is most appealing. From the smart retro uniforms to the genuine positive vibe with which the staff conducted themselves - there is a real sense that they actually enjoy being there and this makes a huge difference.

But there are a few drawbacks in need of urgent rectification. With QT, what we have is a run down 1980's hotel with a super glossy façade. And it almost works, the reception and lounge area is impressively executed but look a little deeper and the bones of the former Gold Coast International aren't particularly well hidden behind the new mirrors and retro fittings. Of note, the pool area, change rooms and facilities are an absolute disgrace. The gym is a health hazard with equipment that is seriously dangerous and carpet that is truly grotty - it is a revolting place to spend time. The underground car park structure looks to be falling apart and the rubbish bins were overflowing for over a day - although perhaps this says more about the laziness of the guests.

Surprisingly however I seem willing to overlook the negativities due to the professionalism of the staff and overall sense of hospitality provided (something that can not be said for sister hotel, QT Sydney). Mention should also be made of the Bazaar restaurant which, despite my aversion to buffets, was surprisingly good. So much so that we ate there twice. Again, the level of service and hospitality from the restaurant staff exceeded expectations.

Per chance there is a suggestion sheet that I overlooked could I ask that the hotel to desist from serving cocktails in glass jars - it's simply not cool - and make the extra effort to complete the refit. You're almost there.

Would I stay again? Screaming children aside I would certainly consider it if for nothing more than having been made to feel comfortable and welcome - well done Gold Coast.

Room Tip: The King Suite proved suitably comfortable with a welcome sense of spaciousness.

On arrival we were greeted with full of enthusiasm from all the staff, the reception desk fast and efficient check in.
Had a Ocean king room fantastic view and the equipment iPod Dock good size Led Tv and nice fit outs.
Good size pool area and comfortable sun lounges and clean pool.
Had dinner one night in the Bazaar market place restaurant, well absolutely amazing the best and freshest seafood & meat that we have ever eaten. The abundance of different dishes were mind blowing & the sweets and macarons were to die.
Service was above and beyond.

Room Tip: Go for a king Ocean Room

From the moment you walk through the doors you know this is a cool place. The lobby is full of colour and the LED art installation is super cool! We were greeted by Hannah at reception who was really bubbly and welcoming. Our river view room was basic but nice and the beds are so comfortable!
We ordered nachos and pizza (both really tasty) from Stingray which was mistakenly delivered to the wrong people but Maria saw to it that a replacement meal was delivered in no time at all.
Like with any hotel, it's the staff not the property itself that make the experience special and QT Gold Coast is lucky to have some amazing people.

Be careful of the little things that you would think are usually complimentary at other resorts- eg Parking, bottles of water beside your bed and coffee in your room (Nespresso pods are usually 68cents at most- they charge you $1.50 a pod) Very sneaky charges, disappointing to say the least. Won't be staying here again!

Everything about this hotel spruiked an enjoyable experience. Fun and professional at the same time. King room over looking the mountains was great, chocs on arrival had a touch of Heston Blumenthal and breakfast the best hotel breakfast we've had. What a concept! Well executed! Coming back and recommending highly to all.
