“$50 per person in a 1 bedroom apartment!”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

I stayed here at this motel for 2 nights, over christmas. I was having a birthday get together and hired out 5 rooms. It equated to $50 per person for an apartment with a lounge room, kitchen, seperate bathroom and bedroom along with a verandah.

Room Tip: The higher you go, the better clearer view you get of the city.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was great!
We got a room on one of the top floors and got a great view of the big wheel, town and sea!
The room was very spacious with a double bed, a single bed, a table with 4 chairs, a balcony and a bath in the bathroom!
It was a very quiet hotel even though the reception was always very busy!
It was a 5 minute walk to the main shopping centre and to the beach front. We got a deal with the hotel for breakfast which had a wide selection of hot food, cereal, teas coffees and juices.
We asked one of the girls at reception where the nearest photo shop was and she told us it was a 15 minute bus journey away, luckily we walked into the shopping centre 5 minutes away to find a photo shop, saved us the bus fare!!

Room Tip: Try and get a top floor room for a better view from the balcony!

Hi LoraA_11,

It is great to hear you had a wonderful time at the Islander. Hopefully you enjoyed your time in Australia and will come and visit us soon.

Your comments are much appreciated and I shall let the reception team know about the photo shop across the road. It is a little more expensive than most but very convenient given it's only 2 minutes away.

Kind Regards

Were booked in for 5 nights - but left after two. This is not a resort. Location handy but extremely noisey at night. The reception and staff were ok. upstairs hallway was smelly and very tired, and there were disgarded clothes. Our room was large. However the roomed had an awful odour. Desk had formica ripped off, and it was not level. The bathroom was a just revolting. Rotten door, window broken, damaged vanity. Outside balcony was not one I would trust. (8th floor)On the up side - towels were and sheets were clean and the bed comfortable. We booked into an apartment that cost $20Aud per night less with far superior standard.

Room Tip: Inspect room before accepting.

We stayed in this hotel 3 years ago - even though its a backpackers hotel - the hotel part was excellent. The room we had was a 1 bedroom apt. with a Dining area with 2 single beds and a settee and sofa, dining table, kitchen area, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and two balconies. The only downside was the bath - which needs replacing badly - very stained. Otherwise hotel very nice. Had prob. with safe when first got there - they immediately came and sorted it out. Asked for Iron and Ironing board and it was there when we came back from seeing our friends. Overall staff very good and good value for money. We are in our 70's and had no prob with backpackers or noise and we overlooked the front of the hotel onto the road and it was not very noisy. Could see the sea from our balcony.

Room Tip: Don't go expecting luxury - it is not but excellent value for money and it was clean. Wld stay t...

Good Afternoon Yvonne68,

Greetings from the Gold Coast. Your review is much appreciated and we thankyou for taking the time to comment on your recent stay.

We would like to point out to future travellers that the hotel is not actually a backpackers. Islander Resort Hotel is separate to Islander Backpackers Resort and two different buildings with different reception areas. As you point out Vyonne, the backpackers is quiet and does not interfere with the hotel guests experience.

Of course we look forward to seeing you again in the future and once again, we appreciate your honest comments.

Kind Regards

Stayed here one night on a wotif deal. Very central location but so tired and it is in no way a 'resort'. It is unfortunate they mix the backpackers and the hotel. The two just don't mix no matter what management thinks.

Best part of the place is the outside cafe on the highway. Friendly kiwi girl on the staff is very helpful.

The rooms are tired and the TVs are ancient. This is amazing when you consider how much flat screens have come down in recent years. They certainly are not digital tv ready.

Also noisy. I was there in a weekend and got woken up with the backpacker noise at 3am.

Won't stay here again. OK for a stag party or a big nite out. That is about all.

I moved a block away and got so much more for the same money including a very nice room (with a bath and shower) view and no backpackers.

Dear Kiwia 1,

Thank you for booking the Hotel through Wotif and providing your comments. It is always refreshing to receive direct staff feedback and I will ensure your thanks are passed onto Trish from the café.

We welcome both domestic and international visitors and recognise that customer needs and expectations can be very different, it is for this reason that we have a designated Reception for the Backpacker market and a 24 hour Hotel Reception in an attempt to service all our customer’s needs.

We have commenced rolling out new flat screen televisions on a replacement basis and you are correct in saying the existing TV’s are of a mature age!. We have also recently submitted a detailed report to the Hotel owners with the purpose of providing better product in the long term.

May I take this opportunity to apologise and thank you for taking the time to write your concerns down.

Stayed with a large group for a bucks which this place is perfect for.
Low quality, cheap rooms close enough to everything that goes on with a bucks.
The one thing that without doubt needs upgrading is the tv's... They are tiny with no digital stations and horrible reception.
This place is fine for a bucks or footy trip but don't bring your mrs or family here expecting luxury.

Dear Makybes,

Sounds like a great weekend was had by all, with our central location including on site restaurant, bar, gaming room, bottle shop and coffee shop, I am sure you did not have to venture far when the group needed supplies.

You are correct in saying that our TV’s are in need of upgrading, I am pleased to advise that we have commenced this process with the view of continuing until all of the units are replaced.

Thank you for the feedback and we look forward to assisting you upon your next return to Surfers Paradise.
