We were a little unsure about this resort as there are a few negative reviews online. We shouldn't have been. It was awesome! Our 4 year old had the time of his life. We stayed in a family room, which was clean and basic, but great with 2 tvs and suited us fine. Meals in the bistro were noisy but the food was nice. The waterpark was the main attraction, and as a family we spent many hours in it every day. The BBQ facilities are lovely, and it was nice having them right next to a huge playground. We were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable cost of the mini-mart and it was great to be able to buy things like wipes and nappies for our little one. The staff are a big asset at Paradise Resort. They were always friendly, understanding of kids running everywhere, and nothing was too difficult. We used the kids club a couple of times until our son refused to go - but that was more a reflection on all the things he could do when he wasn't there, more than the club itself. It was well run and professional. I liked being able to check up on our kids and take them in and out if needed. Our 4 year old loved the movie nights and felt very special heading off with dad to see a film after dinner. This isn't a five star resort, but you wouldn't go there for luxury. You would go there to experience a great family holiday and a time that your kids won't forget! We are saving up for the next trip already :).

We stayed here in February 2014 for 3 nights after winning the competition on the TODAY show. We were in an older room in Cleos castle section and it was fine, room service everyday was a bonus, nice to come back with beds made and fresh towels. We thought the facilities of the resort were excellent for kids-so much for them to do, we wish that we could have stayed longer just to have some free days to spend at the resort doing the free activities. The kids club was great-my 2 girls had a wonderful time- they didn't want to leave. Only comment I could make on the kids club would be to show them where the toilets are or tell them to ask them if they need to go-my 4 year old would have felt more confident then. The water park was great-kept them occupied and as we stayed out of school holidays it was busy but not overly crowded. I wouldn't go in school holidays as I doubt you would be able to get a seat around the pool area etc. The location of the resort is good-an easy walk into the heart of surfers paradise. The bistro and poolside café were great and we ate at these several times-food was delicious-pizzas amazing and prices were good.

We stayed with our 20 month old and 4.5 yo. The biggest draw card was the complimentary kids club, unfortunately this was our biggest disappointment. Our older child is extremely sensitive and was handed over to staff daily the best way to handle him. Each day we picked him up there were 'incidents'. The final day we were called to come to collect him two hours early because he had been aggressive to his brother and staff and refused to say sorry. I was not allowed to leave with him until he had apologised to staff. Thanks for the parenting tip but I was getting to it anyway.
My 2 year old that has never been interested in tv was glued to television each day we picked him up. I'm not sure if most child care centers give cake daily for kids under 2. New staff everyday did not help neither did the duty manager that seemed to forget about us and our feedback. It was only followed up after I called the resort days after leaving. Never again.

Room Tip: Partition walled rooms don't work if your kids need dark and quiet to sleep.

Dear trishagjones,
Sorry to read that the kids did not enjoy the Kids Club and that having different staff each day was a concern to you.

Unfortunately being a resort rather than a child care centre our staff work in many areas including running outside activities, the ice rink, climbing wall and the pool area and have varying duties therefore with such a large team they do vary between shifts.

The perfect place for the kids to have a holiday. So much for them to do. What surprised me was that in the evening it was quiet and you did not have kids screaming about the place keeping everyone up. Maybe they were exhausted by the day's activities. Would not necessarily go there if I didn't go with the kids, but this is what the resort is designed for.

Dear Famdragon,
Great to read your review, and we certainly agree with you that it is not the place that anyone would come here without the kids.

Hopefully we will see you all again one day.

Many thanks

Travelled in February 2014 with Wife, 4 year old son and 10 month old son. Stayed for 10 nights in a Family Room in the Astro's Alley wing. I have no problem in recommending this place if you have a young family. In fact if you have a young family and were heading for the Gold Coast then I would insist that this is the place to base yourself. I cannot stress enough that if you are a business traveller, a young single, a backbacker, have older teenagers, are honeymooners or have a antipathy towards children, that is if you are anyone who does not have a young family then this place is not for you!!!

My oldest's joy was pretty much total - constantly asking if the Water Park was open and very sad to leave. Our baby loved the pool and the attention from his parents who didn't have to worry about cooking, cleaning, etc. We have all come back much happier from the experience.

Now the details - Our two rooms were of a solid 3 star quality. Mattresses all firm and comfortable. My wife and I had an ongoing debate whether we had a renovated room or not. She thought we did based on various furnishings and the inside paint job but I thought we didn't based on the age of the toilet, the wear and tear in the bath and the fade on the balcony railing. But I emphasise both of us were highly satisfied by the condition of the room, its cleanliness and presentation. The range of TV channels (including Foxtel Movie and Kids Channels) were a something I appreciated after the long days chasing the older boy! The Family Room comes with Microwave, toaster and basic crockery. Housekeeping was very good. Fresh towels and bed made up every day. We also appreciated the dish cleaning that was done - unexpected and appreciated. We had to remind them about the pre-ordered cot and once had to request our bin to be emptied (the Sunday - they don't do Housekeeping on Sundays!) but both requests easily and quickly responded to.

Staff - the entire staff we interacted with were friendly and responsive. The morning breakfast can be a confronting experience on an empty stomach when you walk in and face a wall of noise made up of children screaming, laughing, crying, the various parental responses and it is here that the staff shine! Always friendly, always ready to listen to any requests, proactive in interacting with children but professional at the same time. If you have a mindset of apologising for your child's behaviour (eg the mound of food left under your youngest's highchair!) then you will love the staff reactions They willingly acknowledge that this is a family resort and children's messes/noises come with the territory. It takes a special kind of person to deal with that kind of environment on a daily basis and from what we observed the staff selection and training has been spot on. Front Desk, Pool Staff, Bar Staff, Mini Mart Staff, Kids Club - all with the same friendly and helpful demeanour.

Facilities - It is the Water Park that makes this place. If you have a child under 12 then this is the reason to go. The 4 year old spent on average 3 hours a day there. Regardless of what else we had done that day. There is also a kids club, organised daily activities, various playgrounds and an Ice Rink! Other than Movie Night didn't really participate in the activities but very glad they were on offer (too busy in the Water Park!!). Playgrounds- One indoor, one outdoor - next to new BBQ's (also used and appreciated by us) were used when the Water Park was not an option and were found to be immensely satisfactory by the 4 year old. The Ice Rink was also not used by us. We did try the Kids Club on 3 occasions and while the 4 year old didn't mind it, he would've preferred the Water Park so he wasn't keen on going - also as he was put into the junior Kids Club so he could be with his Baby Brother he may not have been challenged enough (?) . We tried to put him and his brother in on a Friday night and that was a disaster. We weren't alone in this and all the babies, ours included, went off like firecrackers. There were approximately 15 kids, at least 4 staff but they were swamped. We saw our baby being cuddled but then while still distressed was left alone while the staff member had to tend to other hysterical children - not something you wanted to see. So we joined a queue of parents in removing our children from there. As anyone with a young family knows, it requires a major expedition just to go shopping so the Mini Mart is quite useful - its pricing is reasonable - more expensive than a supermarket, cheaper than a petrol station-7/11. But supermarkets are about a 15 minute walk away anyway/Beach 5 minutes. You can hire strollers from the resort at a reasonable rate so mobility can be achieved.

Food - At both Bistro and Pool Bar was satisfying and adequate - reasonably priced. Service was quick. Breakfast Buffet was quite superb in fact - fresh fruits, pastries, cereals, coffee, juices. We ended up eating at the Resort for most meals but that was mostly for convenience, a wider, maybe more international range would have been appreciated.

Criticisms/Recommendations - Most of what I disliked is due to the fact that it is a kids focused resort - so that means lots of kids - with their noise, lack of peripheral vision and intense excitement/disappointment - can't really blame the resort for that! This is a huge Resort - say 200+ rooms (at least!) Other reviews do discuss high levels of noise - you have to expect that going in and draw deep breaths - by 4.00pm the pool and Water Park gets very busy. But by 6pm the noise has died down - I never noticed too much noise before 9am either so it should be possible to get a reasonable sleep. However in the Holiday Months maybe not!! Oh and Keep an eye on your kids - the staff are NOT lifesavers and it was a bit worrying to find young children (my older boy's age or younger) apparently by themselves or only loosely supervised by an adult with their head in their smart phone - no matter their water proficiency, accidents do happen!!!
There are two Adults only spaces which need serious rethinking. One is outside the Mini Mart and meant to be a bar - it's 5 tall tables and children walk past all the time. The second is by the Water Park and quite frankly has zero ambience. While fenced it is open to the elements and has no privacy or easy access to services like a bar or cafe. Our room overlooked it and I rarely saw more than 3 people in it at any time. I would put more effort into creating an adults only environment or abandon it altogether.

Before coming here I had studied TripAdvisor and paid attention to the Terrible Reviews - I did not encounter any smells that seemed to be prevalent in those.

HOWEVER there is one negative - Booking thru the resort we used their Transfer company - ConXion - and they were rubbish - Failed to turn up at the airport on time for the arriving flight - was late for a theme park transfer and then started driving while the the 4 year old was still walking up the aisle(not family friendly at all!!!), took an hour to get us to the airport for the departing flight. If I was Zagame's I might want to revisit the relationship with this Service Provider.

In Summary - (firstly, thanks for taking the time to read this opus - I'm longwinded I know! :)) but this a great place to go to. We travelled under a promotion that gave us a resort credit which did help offset a lot of costs and we probably wouldn't go as long if we didn't have that kind of deal. But I would certainly return for a shorter time and then go somewhere more adult for a rest which I now need after 10 days there! Our family had a great time - Happy Boy's, Happy Life!! :)

Room Tip: Request a quiet room - this helped!

Dear LeonGov,

Thank you so much for your great review. On reading your comments we believe that you did not experience one of our newly refurbished rooms so were delighted that you found it to meet all your expectations. Maybe next time you can experience a new room.

We hope that you will have many fond family memories and once again thank you for your comments.
