Our 2 week holiday was a chance to get away for the first time as a couple

We booked the deluxe pamper package which promoted the suite as having a balcony with spa which "sounded" so romantic...the room was a bit out dated and the balcony was enclosed so if you are a smoker which my (ex) girlfriend was then be prepared to have to go down to the lobby and stand in the cold out side lol

Smoking or not the photos from their website are misleading and we downgraded to a standard room and went straight to Versace and had our best stay ever!!!

This hotel is very stylish but seems to lack charm. The rooms are a decent size however I was disappointed that there are no balconies. The pool is good and the hot tub and sauna are nice extras. We stayed here because of a cheap package deal so we did not eat at the restaurant or have any spa treatments as they were a bit out of our price range. If we had I'm sure I would rate the hotel higher. We did however order room service but found the food to be a bit cold and not very tasty. Although we enjoyed our time at the Watermark we will try somewhere else next time.

We had a 4 night stay at the Watermark in March 2010. As it was the first destination on our trip from the UK, we decided to splurge on the "Club Watermark" package, which promised a "five star hotel environment" at a considerable premium to the normal room rates - as such we arrived with "five star" expectations which were unfortunately not met.

The Club Watermark rooms turned out to be the same as the other rooms in the hotel, just on a higher floor and with nicer bedding. As such, I thought the room was quite small and poky, but the bed was very comfy. The in-room TV reception was quite poor, probably because there were only analogue channels and the hotel is surrounded by lots of high rise buildings - I would have expected a Foxtel or similar offering in a five star hotel.

Thebiggest appeal of the Club Watermark package for us was access to the Club Watermark lounge - this did have a TV with digital channels (so why not in the bedrooms?!) but was again a "five star" disappointment, with evening drinks and canapes only being served from 5 - 7pm (with the staff beginning to clear things away at 6.45pm, and trying to hurry us out by 6.55pm). This is far too early in my opinion and meant that we could only take advantage of the facility on 1 night of our stay, as we were out doing other things during the day, and not ready for pre-dinner drinks at 5pm!

There were positives to the hotel as well, the biggest one being the staff - everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful, and really made our stay. The Club Watermark breakfast was also excellent.

In terms of the wider environment, with Surfers "what you see is what you get" - it's brash, it's loud, it's noisy - but has a great beach and is a fun place to stay for a few nights. The Watermark is in a good location, close to the centre of the resort.

I would describe the Watermark as a perfectly nice 4 star hotel, and had we not paid such a premium for the Club Watermark package, I'm sure I would give the hotel 4 or 5 stars in this review. I felt that by trying to sell this "five star" experience, the Watermark is trying to be something it is not, and it certainly failed to live up to our expectations.

In summary, I would recommend the Watermark as a good place to stay in Surfers - but don't pay over the odds for the premium package!

Having read other reviews on this site, we had high expectations of the hotel, which may have coloured our view of the hotel. The room was comfortable and of a good size, but the quality of finish is not quite up to 4 star standards. The main entry was large but disjointed, and again fell slightly short. The staff were great, and unfailingly helpful. Breakfast was good, but ridiculously priced - make sure you get breakfast included in your room rate! A pleasant enough stay, but slightly underwhelming.

Stayed in the Chairman Suite which was a quite a bit more than your average room, but for a romantic getaway its absolutely worth every penny.

Delightful spa and your own private terrace, amazing views of the Gold Coast and then when your about to get ready to hit the night life head down the Club Watermark Lounge and relax with nibbles and complementary predinner drinks all served by friendly and well trained staff.

When you wake up the next morning you get a newspaper delievered outside your room whicc you can pick up when your ready and then head down to the lounge for breakfast. Breakfast is amazing everything from chocolate croissants and pancakes to bacon and eggs all complementary and in a relaxing lounge with excellent service.

I will definately be going again and would recommend the chairman suite to anyone on a romantic getaway it is definately worth the price.

I spent one night at the Gold Coast Watermark and was very disappointed with the room I got. That certainly wasn’t 5-star accommodation as advertised on the website. It felt very cramped and uncomfortable. There were no slippers or bathrobes. The bathroom was smallish.
I would not recommend the hotel to anyone.

My partner and I went to the Gold Coast for a family wedding and he chose to book the accommodation for us as a package with Blue Holidays (Virgin Blue). After reading some of the reviews on here about the distance from shops, etc I was a bit concerned.

On arrival our room was ready and the staff were very friendly and quickly checked us in. We booked a Deluxe Room (room 1101) and we weren't disapointed. Everything was clean, modern and in working order. I am still amazed at the skill of the housekeeping staff to make the bed with all of my things on top of it and not move any of them! Just make sure to put the Do Not Disturb on the door because housekeeping can start as early as 8am and on a few days of our stay they started on our floor.

The gaming lounge downstairs was good for a bit of amusement with pokies, a bar and counter meals available. My partner was lucky enough to have a win on the pokies too, which was great!

There were two pools and spas, both were very appealing but we only got to use the spa once because we were so busy! There were plenty of sun lounges which gave the pool areas a very relaxing atmosphere. The gym also looked amazing but I left my sneakers at home so I was very disappointed!

We ate at the Waves Buffet Restaurant a few times during our time at the Watermark. The breakfast was fantastic, catering for all nationalities. The food was of good quality and was always well stocked up. Unfortunately we found that the dining vouchers that we were given at check in weren't able to be used at the times that were convenient for us. They could only be used on Fri, Sat or Sun when breakfast was $30.00 per person. Apparently during the week the price is already discounted to $19.00 per person so the vouchers are not able to be used. We ended up visiting Pancakes in Paradise for a cheap breakfast alternative and found it enjoyable. I also recommend the Italian restaurant (Pizza Mondo maybe??) across the road in the Q1 complex, phenomenal pizza!

The location was perfect for us. Being on the corner of Hamilton Ave and Surfer's Paradise Highway was great! There are busses to Pacific Fair every 10 minutes from Surfers Paradise Highway and the bus stop was 100m from the hotel, also great for catching the Theme Park Express busses. There was also a bus stop on the Q1 side of the hotel which had busses to Sea World and up to Cavill Mall if needed every 10 minutes.

Cavill Mall was an easy 5 minute walk for us which was fantastic, not smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle, but close enough to enjoy it.

Overall, a very pleasant hotel for the rate that we paid! We ended up in a fantastic hotel well within our budget with facilities that I didn't think that we'd be able to afford. We weren't paying enough or expecting to be on the beachfront so we weren't disappointed about the view. Close to everything, convenient, clean and very friendly staff. Definately worth considering and a visit.

Feel free to contact me if there's anything that you'd like to ask!
