We booked a 5 night stay for a Superior Two-Bedroom Apartment at the Focus Apartments through the Internet. Before we booked, we had a look at their website and saw the pictures, and they were so modern and flashy. We compared Focus to a few other hotels on the Gold Coast and my children selected Focus on the basis of the fancy and modern pictures. On the booking confirmation it stated features as a private balcony with ocean views, full kitchen and laundry facilities and non smoking. When we entered the room, we saw it was nothing like the pictures. When we tried to change rooms, the staff said that they could do nothing.

Here are the positives and negatives of Focus.

Positives
* Good view if you get an apartment facing the sea.
* 10 min walk to Cavill Ave(centre of Surfers Paradise)
* Swimming pool and spa are good

Negatives
* Staff on arrival are dishonest (Before we arrived, we rang the hotel and we were guaranteed a view.( Also on the booking confirmation with ocean views) but then when we arrived there, the checking staff said she could not not guarantee us a view. We advised her that we rang yesterday and our room was confirmed with a view then we were given room 66 on floor 16. When we requested a room on a higher level, the staff said that no other rooms were available. Then the next day I met a family who had booked a 2 bedroom Superior apartment through the internet, just like us. They checked in on the same day at 7: 15pm, nearly 3 hours later than us, and were given a Superior two bedroom apartment room on the 25th floor, with 2 new bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen.)
* Room was dirty(we got black feet)
* All curtains were mouldy, and the ones in the main bedroom could not close or open.
* Furniture was dirty, full of sand(so was one of the beds).
* The balcony was not cleaned properly, there was a cigarette pack left there even though we specified a non smoking room.
* There were cockroaches and sand on the beds and moths in the lights
* The shower door in the ensuite could not close fully, so water began spurting out
* Paint was peeling off the top of the ensuite bathroom.
* The bottom of the bath in the other bathroom was dirty and full of black spots.
* Tiles were cracking in the ensuite bathroom.
* The room is only serviced if you stay 8 days or longer
* The room is not like the photos on the website. It was very old, dirty and grubby.
* There was no aircon in our room. There were only two fans in the wardrobe in the second bedroom (but they did not work) and we had to keep opening the doors to keep cool.
* There was a funny smell in the lifts and on the ground floor.
* We booked a two bedroom superior apartment and we got, what we believe was a three bedroom standard apartment( one of the rooms did not have a door.)

Overall. It is a good location with good facilities for families and we would stay if the rooms looked like the pictures on the internet. I would suggest staff/ owner to upgrade the cleaning service to the advertised(4 star) level, do something about the smell on the ground floor and the lift and allocate the room as per the booking to avoid guest disappointment.

I was there with my family with 3 young children. I booked the hotel from the hotel's website.

1. Staff - Booked a superior 2 bedroom apartment for $205 a nite for 6 nites. I had to cancel the last nite stay due to flight change, so I called them a week before we checked in. The staff was really nice to give us a full refund for the last nite. The cheque was ready for collection when we checked in.

2. View - With the right room, you can see the whole stretch of Surfer's PAradise beach. The building is in a circular shape so not all rooms have sea view. We were told that only standard apartments are guarenteed sea view and some superior rooms offer sea view. Check with the staff upon check in. We were on the 27th floor, a view to die for! Sunrise, moonlight reflected from the sea...

3. Room - Room #109. Big spacious 2 bedroom apartment. Ensuite room with King size bed and second bedroom with a double bed and 2 single beds. The comforters were old and dreadful looking, thank God for the clean sheets below. Modern well-equipped kitchen. Laundry room with antique but working washing machine and dryer. Bar stools were rusty, sofa was sandy and I reckon there were bugs coz we were bitten. TV, DVD player all working well but only one of the remote controls comes with batteries. DVD rental available at Receiption with latest video releases at $4. We were told that our apartment had a makeover but they are in the midst of changing the comforters.

4. Location - Enter from Staghorn Ave to access Receiption and carpark. 5-10 mins walk to Cavill Ave (the main Shopping area). Directly in front of beach with a Lifeguard Post.

5. Security - . A security tag is needed for access to Car park and lifts.

Negative - The smell on ground floor and the lifts!

Finally, positives defintely outweigh the negatives. Recommended for families and friends.

Room Tip: The building is in a circular shape so not all rooms have sea view. We were told that only standard...

Myself and three other friends stayed in Focus apartments during schoolies week. We were on level 8 with amazing ocean views. Rooms were amazing couldn't have asked for much better. Only negative was the horrible smell from the chinese restaurant down stairs. Overall, great place to stay and i recommend to all.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment on level 10 and the views were fantastic. The bedrooms are a good size, light and airy with their own balcony. The living area comprises a full laundry, a combined kitchen, dining and lounge area and a large balcony from which you can watch the world go by. The apartments are not the newest around but they are clean and roomy. The staff were all helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The gym, pool, sauna and spa area is well maintained and there are a couple of large barbeques which we didn't get to use but will next time.
Overall a good resort, well positioned close to the hub of Surfers and across from a fantastic beach. We'll be going back again.

Room Tip: Two bedroom apartments have ocean views
