“Smelly and run down”
Reviewed 11 July 2011

The Silverton was a let down from the time we arrived.
At check in the staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. After requesting an early check in we were unable to do this and told to come back in the afternoon when the rooms were ready. When we came back reception was closed and an older women who must have lived at the Silverton called the managers for us, lucky she was there otherwise we would not have been able to get in!
Our room smelt like fish, it was dirty, dusty had dirty fingerprints all over the place. The furnishings were ok but the bathrooms were well overdue for a makeover.
We did not get fresh towels/soap/toilet paper/sheets etc daily and were told to do our own dishes and take own rubbish to basement on departure or the credit card may be charged...I thought this was part of what you paid for?
If we had paid $50 per night rather than $100+ I may have been happier with the state an value of the Silverton.

Poor experience. Chronologically: asked for early check in on booking, on arrival was told this was not possible (no problems with this) reception said to come back at 2pm.. arrive back at 2pm reception closed.. after a few phone calls someone came to allow us into our room. Also had to sign a contract undertaking to clean all the dishes and take out all our own rubbish. The room smelt of fish (strongly) and was not clean, crumbs, smears and stains. Very old dated furniture and fittings too.

Tried to visit firends on another level, could not disembark the lift on any other floor, and got locked in the stair well trying to use the stairs and had to be rescued by said friends. Concerning. Upon check out we couldn't not even find the skip bin in the basement to put our rubbish in.

Some of the old nature of the furnishings would be tolerable if the staff were friendly and helpful, and the place was clean. The staff were weird, uncomfortable to deal with, and not welcoming at all. Very odd set-up, not sure how this place keeps afloat.

Room Tip: Some of the units appeared better than others, I would just avoid full stop based on the staff.

The rooms are big, the price is reasonable and the view of the Nerang River is great but that's about all. The carpets are very dated and they smell. The walls have holes in them and the furniture is so old. There is a very musky smell in the apartment as well as the corridor. The kitchen is well stocked but the pots and utencils aren't clean. I had to wash them and it was difficult to do a good job without scouring pads. The location of the apartment is alright. Food outlets are not very far away.

Room Tip: Get the view facing Nerang River.

Stayed here with some friends in March 2011- the apartment on one of the top floors was extremely big and roomy- and had a nice couch, TV, kitchen etc

There is also a pool and gym to use and you can hire sports equipment if you are willing to pay extra.

Only complaints were lifts were quite slow, and the door to our room was quite hard to open. The staff were amiable, but particularly casual, I wouldn't say they were particularly helpful or friendly!

I guess it's good for a few days with some friends or alone, because the price is reasonable. Though note the building and apartments are aging a little bit, so the style is a bit dated!

The Silverton apartments is maybe 8mins walk from the Surfers, it is well placed by the Gold Coast Highway (Remembrance Drive) and Surfers Paradise Bvd. It is located in the quite part of the City, close to the highway services of Translink 750, 745 and the GC Airport bus. It is literally 5mins by bus to Jupiter’s Casino Broadbeach. The Apartment i stayed in No 17 was on the 3rd floor, i arrived late so i had open a safe with the help of the onsite management, Car parking was awkward its warned that guests should park in the allocated car park else their car will be towed away i.e. I must park in no 17 unfortunately i was unable to follow this rule as someone else had parked in no 17 anyway nothing happen to the car the next day. Lack of Signage in regards to the door to enter into the lift foyer from the basement I had to be helped in by the Ground keeper (he heard me put the ½ keys into the door I thought was the entry in to the lift foyer, He open the door for me and pointed out the fob device you must wave on the side of the door i learnt this for next time. Lack of signage to exit the parking garage with the car twice i get out of the car to find the fob device on the wrong side of the car this would open the garage door, and on the 3rd occasion i found the correct driver’s side fob opener it’s just that you had to look in the dullest part of the garage for this opener. Exiting the car garage up the driveway is a surprise because it exits in the middle of Traffic lights on a very busy GC Hwy. Entry to the car garage is a bit of a struggle you may have exit the vehicle to open the entry fob of the garage.
The apartment I stayed in was not modern it was quite ‘progressively’ becoming from the 1970’s/80’s bathroom and kitchen to the 1990’s with the tiled floors, this unit seemed to be Schoolies orientated as allot of the electrical appliances, furniture and furnishings you could find at a Garage sale for $50, The TV for example thou fat back was small and dodgy, the Bed thou comfortable the mattress reminded me of my Mum and Dads mattress from 28 years ago, the shower and the toilet suite looked really worn out with cracked tiles and discolouration. Again I understand that this apartment was probably a Schoolie special so things are ‘cheap’ and ‘tacky’ for example as soon as you enter the 3rd floor the carpet is tacky, Signage to the Garbage disposal Shute and disposal room lacking you have to orienteer yourself to the correct unmarked door. The Bed was made using 2 top bed sheets there was no elastic bed sheet or mattress protector as I noticed many times, the bed blanket was cheap.
The apartment was half baked, so only half of what you want Pots, Pans, plates, glasses etc… are present and the rest you got to purchase so you will need more toilet paper, better soap, more dishwashing liquid, a kitchen sponge, laundry powder.
The pluses the Room had a view of the Nerang river beautiful!, and Pool was great the LED light show in the pool was great, pool was Luke warm, the spa was very warm for my fancy made me sick, not much noises from the GC Hwy, the outside lights were not intruding at night, had a nice view of Q1, the balcony was standing room only. The Austar box that comes with room is SD and only shows a sample of paytv channels & cannot be appreciated with such a small TV, I may stay again if I get a renovated apartment if one exists it seems the Silverton was made for schoolies, and lastly the staff were friendly.

Room Tip: ask before you purchase for a non-schoolie style m

I stayed at Silverton for 12 days in May 2011 for some business I had to attend to on the coast. I stayed in Apartment number 50 which is located on level 8 and faces the Highway. The other side faces the canal.

Firstly, if you are a light sleeper then do NOT stay in an apartment facing the Gold Coast highway. The traffic is pretty heavy and starts very early in the morning. I could hear it all the way up to level 8 and even with all the Windows closed. For me it wasn't an issue, but for others it is worth considering to insist on a canal facing apartment.

In general, the apartment I stayed at was well maintained and really had everything you need. The carpets had some minor burn marks but nothing too bad. In general the standard of cleanliness was definitely ok.

The location is great with extensive public transport right outside and a mini-market and bottleshop across the road. It is about 10-15 minutes walk from the building to Cavil avenue and 5 minutes to a gorgeous patrolled beach. There is also a Surf Life Saving club close by with excellent feed (10% discount if you become a member).

Business on the coast appears to be quite slow at the moment and as a result, there is plenty of very fierce competition in the holiday apartment market. Silverton itself is literally surrounded with other high-rise holiday apartment buildings.

The apartment I stayed in had no A/C and it does get pretty cold in there this time of the year once the sun goes down. However, if you walk around wearing socks then you should be fine.

Overall, it's a good place to stay with reasonable facilities which are comparable to other buildings around it. There is plenty of competition at the moment so make sure you negotiate a good price (better to book directly with them to get the maximum bargaining power) and most importantly....have fun!!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms that face the Gold Coast hwy

Great location, great views. We stayed on the 15th floor (top) so saw no-one. Only 2 negatives: Lifts - very slow and creaky. Apartment - oven did not work, couches bit uncomfortable.
BEWARE IF PAYING BY CREDIT CARD as thay sting you an extra 3% - this is not advertised on their website.

Room Tip: Ask for 15th floor - complete privacy
