We stayed for one night in the 'Gold Tower' - rather tinny if you asked me. We filled in the questionaire as they stated we 'want to know the details as its the little things that count'. OK - so AAAT 5 stars is supposed to be super clean with loads of facilities. Well we had a damp floor in one corner of the room, hairclips on the carpet, and black hairs on the bathroom floor. With the new AAAT star rating guide in 2012 this hotel will struggle for 4 stars due to its tired rooms and lack of cleanliness. We took breakfast in the downstairs restaurant 'Relish' I think it was called and the chaffing dishes were serving food well below legal temperature of 65 degrees. The bacon was like cardboard and the eggs had probably been there for an hour or more. Its not that hard surely and if you promote yourselves as 4.5 or 5 stars then please try and live up to it.
This was also during NSW school holidays and this is obviously a tourist hotel and one to be avoided if you are a couple or away on business. We dont live far away and we will not be going back as the Gold Coast and hinterland have many many better choices than this.

Room Tip: Ocean view far better due to the roadworks and traffic on the highway side

We stayed at this hotel a few times and the best part of it is the rooms itself. It can be hit and miss the floor you get, although a priority clulb membership seems to help to get a good one.

the rooms are nice, spacious and clean and well lit. Free parking provided. The lobby and facade of the building is somewha 1980's 1990s, however the rooms themselves are clean, comfortable.

It is within walking distance to the beach, however that is all that is nearby, so may be inconvenient for those that would like some good restaurants nearby or shopping.

The buffet breakfast is good, the self juicer is a highlight.

We had dinner there on 3 occasions and on every occasion, there were events that would certainly have made Gordon Ramsay use the F word.

1. On a Wednesday night, mains came out approximately 1 hr after ordering. We were advised by the waitress that it was a 'busy night'. If they couldn't cope on a Wednesday night, then god help them on a Friday or Saturday night. We dined there 3 different nights and each time the food took ages to arrive. It has since become a running joke that one would need to preorder 1.5 hrs beforehand. I suspect they only have a single cook preparing everyones meals.
2. Mezze Platter (dips and olives with toasted bread), took a least 45mins to prepare (despite 2 follow up requests). this is a disgrace for something which is essentially already made.
3. Steak is never cooked properly. Order medium rare and i will most certainly be close to well done.
4. Watery Mushroom gravy
5. Mixed up sides

So whilst when the food finally comes, it is certainly edible, ut the inconsistencies, the long waits don't create a good impression.

Great for the rooms, not so good for timelieness of dining.

A recent stay at Crowne Plaza Gold Tower showed a rather faded and tired hotel. You can see the ocean but it is several blocks back. The bathrooms are in need of a refurbish. The pool area and gardens looked clean and well kept.

Room Tip: The rooms next to the lift are quite noisey

We were super excited to FINALLY visit Australia and booked this room for our trip. On the map it looks to be in a perfect location...within walking distance to the beach, not far from the airport, and close to attractions/shopping. Well, in reality there was a TON of construction in front of the hotel that made walking difficult and I did not feel safe walking alone at night. Additionally, the shopping areas were quite a distance from the hotel.

The saving grace was the hotel staff! Amazing people! They upgraded our room without us asking (without charging us) to an ocean view, provided our complimentary wine, and just super friendly. Can't say enough how impressed we were with the staff.

The room had beautiful views (breathtaking). Overall it was nice. However, the mini-fridge was STUFFED with food/drinks that were WAY over priced. We took their food out and put ours in. Frankly, I was peeved we had to do this. The bathroom was nice with a beautiful clean corner tub and huge shower. The shower needed to be caulked and it leaked.

The lobby reminded me of the '80's. Oh, the food at both restaurants on the bottom floor was some of the best we had in Australia (which was surprising). The Sunday buffet on the top floor was not worth the money, cold, and generally a waste.

Would I stay here again? I don't know. There are plenty of smaller hotels in the area that look fresher. The staff was friendly, the hotel needs an update.

Room Tip: Ask for Oceanview. Its worth it.

I LOVE staying at this hotel. The rooms are big, clean & fresh. Plus: It's only 2 blocks walk to the beach. If you get a corner room you've "scored": extra big! Oh and if you get an upgrade to the Gold town: all your Christmas's have come at once! Those rooms are bigger than my little appartment at home! (Sorry I forgot to take photo's!) Anyway: the standard rooms will not let you down with a nice balcony...Oh & the room service is GREAT! (Plus if you ask you can get Ben & Jerry's ice cream [it's not on the room service menu]). If you're looking for places to eat in the area try Chiangmai Thai (just two blocks down the main road) YUM...Or my favourite Pizza in Oz comes from a little Italian cafe called La Cantina (just another two blocks walk way) the service isn't wonderful: but the Sicillian Pizza IS!

We stayed here for one night and got a nice room on level 8 for $169. While some areas of the hotel are a little bit dated (but only a little bit, 10-15 years old), this room was very modern and well-equipped.

The only downside is the expensive internet for a whopping $28 a day!
