“Quiet and relaxed (just what we required)”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We booked for a hectic 6 days tourist visit, allocated a deluxe twin room in the main tower. Requirement was for somewhere pleasant and quiet to unwind at the end of each day; found this establishment totally suitable. (We had almost booked at a more central establishment, but that had a reputation for a noisy disco etc.; very glad we took the time to read some reviews.)

Pleasantly surprised by the quietness of our room and relaxed atmosphere at the establishment too. Clean, ample sized bathroom, fresh air and peaceful. Room was ocean facing (although a few buildings obscured some of the view). Undercover (no charge) parking was a bonus too. Just a short walk to the beach. Staff were totally professional; pleasant and helpful. Even though there was tramways construction taking place on the main highway there was only minimal disruption to the normal traffic flow; certainly no noise heard in our room.

We are looking at a return visit for a slightly longer stay next year and hope that we can find an agreeable rate. Perhaps a return visit discount voucher would have come in handy :o).

I would happily recommend Crowne Plaza to others seeking some peace and quiet. If you want the noise, hustle and bustle then find somewhere closer to central Surfers.

Where does one start. I guess with the reception, Concierge was not even in attendance when we arrived, well he was actually there but certainly not keen to pop out to our car and help us with the bags, not even when we pushed the trolley in doors did he even acknowledge us. It took an age to get the rooms sorted the rate was incorrect on one and they did not seem to be able to find our agreed rate even though there was about 150 of us staying 4 nights and attending an event there that weekend. we had booked 2 rooms as we required an apartment so were in a different tower, that was no problem, but the gold tower was well lacking some TLC almost half the lights in our room did not work and attempts to have house keeping sort them failed. 4 days and they could not change a light bulb. 1 elevator was not working so that slowed things up a bit and then sunday all elevators in the joint failed, they were out for quite some time, when they finally sorted them the gold tower was left with only 1 working we waited for over 10 minutes to catch 1 down the 17 floors. We could not park our car on the Saturday night as they had a party and clearly people partying have parking privilege over paying guests, we left the car in the drive and got the front of room staff valet park it, they even had the cheek to say that it would be an additional $25 to do so. Check out took far too long. we are a privileged member and always stay at Crowne Plaza all over the world, this is by far the worst experience we have had. Crowne Plaza you are better than this. I would suggest get rid of this dump, it might be a suitable backpacker but at $250 odd a night for our room it was less than ordinary

Dear flyingfifteen,
I was very sorry to hear of the numerous issues which you experienced during your recent stay with us in our Gold Tower here at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise. Please accept my most sincere apologies for our shortcomings on this occasion and rest assured I have followed up with the Concierge and Engineering Teams accordingly. I am most sorry that your stay was impacted further by the lift issues which we experienced that weekend but I am pleased to advise these are all back in full service.
Please do let me know next time you intend to visit the Gold Coast as I would very much welcome the opportunity to redress your current poor impression of the hotel, which is inconsistent with the vast majority of our TripAdvisor reviews.
In the meantime, thank you for bringing your comments to my attention and again, my apologies.

Recently stayed here for two nights. The room was fine with a lovely view and very comfortable beds and pillows. I found the staff very helpful as I consulted them for directions and opinions on attractions.
The free car parking was much appreciated.
The hotel itself it a little away from the main surfers area, about a half hour stroll, but its not necessarily a bad thing, just depends on what you are after.

Had dinner tonight with 15 others. Whilst there was plenty of food and no one went hungry the quality was not very good. If you're after a lovely meal don't bother. Go elsewhere. I would suggest the Bavarian beer cafe in Broadbeach or better still the Black Lyric coffee in Surfers.

Hi Cath P,

Sorry to hear that your recent visit to our restaurant wasn't of satisfaction to you. We do have three different outlets on site so I am not sure which one you visited? We have Four Winds 360, Queenslands only Revolving Restaurant, which has an international and seafood buffet, Relish Restaurant and First Avenue Tavern, that serves pub-style food and is our sports bar.
Your feedback is noted, thank you for taking the time to review on Trip Advisor.

Kind regards,

We have just come back from a virgin mystery flight package which was to surfers paradise. Would I do it again. "No" You find out way too late to enjoy where you are going too. The hotel Crown Plaza was nice, clean and staff really friendly. The thing that I am annoyed about is, we were told breakfast with our voucher was $22 each so we had buffet breakfast on the Friday and it was okay. Did not want to pay $22 each for the other two days. We ate out one morning and then this morning did not eat as we thought we would do that at the airport only to find out that our breakfast was included in the package. They did not tell us that and wondered why they told us $22 each.

I decided to take my daughters and granddaughter away for a night away at the Crowne Plaza again. This time we were placed in the actual Crowne Plaza rather than the Gold tower.

I have to honestly say, I preferred the room in the gold tower over the room we got in the Crowne Plaza tower. Now there was nothing really wrong with the room, however for a double ocean view room I would have expected a little more and a little larger rather than the other way around.

The beds were smallish but nicely appointed with pillows and cushions. The Mattress was comfortable and the sheets were lovely and fresh. Plenty of towels and the normal essential items. TV was a good height and have all the good channels and coffee and tea enough for 3 adults.

Staff, as always, excel at their job. Nice and friendly and very helpful.

We had a nice night away, no room service this time but lovely restaurants, cafe's and more are walking distance away.

Room Tip: If you are looking for more space, less cramp, ask for the the gold tower.

I booked a mystery room on wotif.com for AU$140/ night. We were very happy with our chosen hotel.

Check in was fast and friendly. We were charged $50 for incidentals. Lobby was kept spotless and was not ignored by staff whilst walking through.

Parking was free and there wasn't a fight trying to find a car space.

The lifts were well maintained and kept clean.

The room was one of the biggest hotel rooms I've stayed in. Room 1518. The view of the ocean was great. The balcony had enough space for two chairs and a cigarette table which you didn't have to climb over for space to sit down. The furniture was dated but was well maintained.King sized bed. The bed was firm which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Big tv with basic foxtel channels. Leather lounge was comfy. The bathroom had great water pressure and a corner spa. The spa wasn't the biggest but could fit two average sized adults. The toilet was separate. (Why don't other hotels do this??).

We weren't far from Cavil Ave or the Casino so you have a great range of surrounding restaurants. Do try Che Che Cuban chicken and pork down on the HWY if you choose to stay here, very addictive.

We loved our stay and will be seeing us again.
