Thanks to Keval and Brad D., at the front desk and shift manager respecitvely, our stay was wonderful! They both went out of their way to make sure we were happy and to accomodate us. In fact, every staff member we encountered was friendly and a pleasure to interact with. Brad and Keval really made the difference and turned a pleasant stay in to a wonderful and memorable stay!
The property is in a great location, quiet, yet only 2 short blocks from and within sight of the beach.

We had a large room which was more akin to an apartment with a separated living and bedroom area. The living area had a CRT television, table and chairs for dining and some sofas. There was also a kitchenette area with a small fridge, sink, microwave and toaster (no hob). The carpets throughout were stained and even had iron burn marks. It had a older style bathroom with a fixed shower head over the bath – although the water pressure was variable and not constant.

I have never taken the time to write a review, weather it had been good, bad or ugly, but i feel compelled to write one for this hotel as they made our stay a pleasure. Firstly i would like to say that my friend and i rang to have our stay date changed because of a death in the family. I said to my friend that they would never say yes to that, but they did and with no fuss what-so-ever!We did not have to end up changing the date as the funeral was the day after we returned but we were so thankful that they had the empathy to even consider it. The day we arrived, the mattress protectors had not been changed in our room...yuk, but without a fuss or rudeness they moved us to another room, with a great view of the pool. This room was clean and spacious.Whenever we wanted extra tea, coffee, sugar etc, always given to us with a smile. Hotel was in a good locale, bus outside your door and beach just 2 streets away - 2 min to get there. We also asked for a late checkout and that was no problem either! I would like to say a big thankyou to all the staff that were working the date 20st march - 22 march, especially Brendan. we will recommend your hotel to other people. Sue and Lee

My wife and I stayed here for about a week back in January. The hotel is fairly central with about a 10 minute walk to Surfers proper. There are bus stops right outside the hotel and the beach is only a couple of streets over.

In general we enjoyed our stay at Australis Sovereign. We had an early hiccup with our room having twin beds instead of a queen. :-( Rest assured my wife was not very happy about this! I complained about this and few a days later we were upgraded to a full suite with a kitchen and spa pool. :-)

I've given this hotel a rating of 3 stars (average) as there is no option for "good". The hotel itself is definitely of above average standards.

We got a deal for this hotel that sounded almost too good to be true . Along with some of the reviews in here it left us with a slight feeling of trepidation for our stay - we certainly need not have worried.

Our first impression was fantastic - we arrived early in the morning several hours before check in , we had two surfboards on our car which we wanted to have stored so as we could go out for the day and not worry about them. The guy on the front desk was very friendly , very helpful and had a great sense of humour , he had all the attributes required of great customer service and was a fine representative of the hotel. He also securely stored our boards without issue.

Late that day we seamlessly checked in . I should of also said our initial bookings were easily done via phone with no issues and a confirmation email was promptly sent .

The room was huge ! We had a one bed family suite - OK it was on the first floor so had no view at all but it was massive ! Biggest hotel room I have ever been in, by a long long way . Sep bedroom , good size bathroom and then a large lounge and then another area off the lounge with 2 single beds . Huge, with more than enough space. A mini kitchen with fridge ,microwave and dishwasher (?) was also there. Flat screen TV with some cable stations and Two balconies , very impressed !

Beds were fine and we all slept very well , even though we were on level one and close to the street and highway - rooms were very quiet , very little outside noise could be heard once the balcony doors were shut .

Parking was secured downstairs and we had no trouble getting a spot whenever we tried .

Pool was great - good sized laggon style with waterfall feature and pleasant temperature , nice hot spa , sauna , small gym and a games room made up the leisure activities.

We had breakfast in the Restaurant - and it was fine - standard buffet style but well stocked and replenished regularly - staff were friendly and helpful .Restaurant was well located with nice balcony area overlooking the pool along with plenty of indoor eating.

Gardens were neat and well manicured .

All in All this is a very nice hotel.

My only concerns were - the room was not serviced as part of our deal - we didnt realise this and wondered why we didnt get clean dry towels or have our beds made up , a quick call to reception and they explained and gave us fresh towels . If you want clean pool towels , which are supplied in the room , you apparently need to pay $2.00 per towel so be aware to hang your towel to dry after each use . The biggest concern for us was , there are signs in your room saying that if you set the fire alarm off there is a $950.00 fee, this had us all worried - whilst we certainly dont smoke or nor did we cook , we were concerned that the steam from the showers may activate the alarms as there was a fire alarm in the bathroom - thankfully this didnt occur . The only other issue to be aware of is that it is a little too far to walk into Surfers especially at night , however there is a bus stop very near by.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again and can easily recommend this hotel .

Upon booking 3 rooms at this motel after check out (next morning) my daughter realised she's left her camera on the room in my apartment, she tried calling and was put through to a lady who was nothing but rude. Because my daughter didn't know her room number she was told "i can't help you". He name wasn't taken just in case or anything. So i called myself because i new the room number only to be told i would be called back (which never happened!) i was put through to the same lady who didn't ask my name or room number, but did proceed to tell me that somebody was already staying in our room, so she couldn't check. I fully understand that she left her camera and the next people/cleaners may have taken it, but so compassion would have been nice, all she had to do was take my name and number and say she'd keep her eye out for it, not too much to ask i say.
We will be never staying here again which is a shame as other staff members were lovely.

The saving grace of our stay was at least the room was clean, at least the first day. Very disappointed in the booking overall as we requested a double (which was also written on voucher) and we got 2 singles, the room did not have a balcony despite the hotel description saying all rooms have balconies.

The maintenance of the rooms was questionable however it was clean. There was no exhaust in the bathroom and as the shower head is so close to the ceiling the steam and water build up and drip on your head from the ceiling while you're in the shower. The remote control for the tv didnt work and there is no screens on the windows, the paint is bubbling in places and the chair cushions are very stained.

My biggest issue is the room was not serviced during our stay so no fresh towels or toiletries. Apparently the smells were also a problem for other guests (although ours was fine) with one guest advising us not to go anywhere near reception because it smells like ar*e. (very funny at the time despite being true)

My big suggestion would be if you are lucky enough to find a carspace in the 'secure' parking beneath the hotel (which would be a miracle in itself) leave your car there your entire stay and get taxis or walk where you need to go because if you move your car you wont get another space. And take care while your down there as there is a lot of illegal parking (mostly due to the lack of spaces, you have to park where you can).

Overall, no I would not return to this hotel nor would I recommend it. We did get a very cheap rate but as it turns out you get what you pay for and we've learnt our lesson now.

***I have since had a reply from the 2 of the hotel managers. One was incredibly nice and apologetic, the other denied everything. Despite what one of them said, the fact is the booking slip said DOUBLE and the information about the hotel on HotelClub.com (where we booked) said all hotels have balconies. They dont. He also mentioned that they make it clear about the parking. Again, no such information is on their profile. Never on any documentation did it say anything about rooms not being serviced. If you are going to take advantage of the cheap rates, just be aware what you're getting for your money (which is not a lot).
