We stayed here the night before and of going to a festival at the gold coast. The bathroom was great, had a fantastic sleep (i was on the fold out sofa, and it was fine!), good kitchenette. Recommend it for a cheap night or two. Easy walk into Surfers. We also ordered room service when we got home from the festival, and it was yummy.

I stayed here between Christmas and NY.. not an ideal time to travel but it was for a wedding. So we paid top dollar high season price - but realistically, you would need to get this place at a rock-bottom bargain to be satisfied with the 'value for money' aspect.

We stayed in a studio room. The sound-proofing was very poor. The bed was extremely saggy in the middle and quite simply awful. The bathroom fittings were dated and needed replacing. The carpet was very stained and needed replacing. This place may look nice from the outside, but inside its like schoolies/drunken indy fans have been through it for the last 10 to 15 years.

There is no lockable safe, and given the high apartment crime rate on the coast (together with the hotels own warnings about this) it would be good to see them install pin-enabled safes.

On the upside, I could not complain about the cleanliness of the room.

The carpark is VERY pokey and was full (manager told us they could not guarantee spots) but the on-street parking nearby is unrestricted/easy to find.

Guests seemed to be predominantly families who wandered throughout the (tiled) common areas in thier wet swim gear. I wish hotels would enforce rules on no wet clothing inside... its a real hazzard and just makes the place a mess!

I can't comment on the pool area or the restaurant, because we tried to be at the hotel as little as possible during our 3 night stay.

In summary, I would not stay here again. There is better value in nicer places on the coast. And to people with no kids....... don't go to the gold coast during school holidays or schoolies, its a nightmare!

when booking this motel for our holiday to the gold coast i thought it looked really nice and homey. The two best things about the hotel were the pool and the working air con:( unfortunely when i arrived to check in- i found the reception area/ foyer and hallways to be very hot and uncomfortable as it had no working air con. the Reception staff seemed very rude and unhelpful, the lady was very bland and unfriendly- to me good service is being happy- this staff member was slouched with her feet up on a lower shelf of the desk.. we were directeed to our room- the carpet was filfy, with iron burns across the bedroom, the room was very dull, the chairs/sofas not comfy, the lighting sucked. As for the House keeping staff, we had no bin liner, empty toilet rolls left on the table, dirty towels left on the table..The resturant breakfast and staff service was horrible. On checking out , we wished to leave our bags after organising this, we were made to wait while the staff member played with a doll........If i was after a nice clean, happy stay. i would DEFINATELY NOT stay at this hotel.

After reading some of the negative reviews i was concerned about staying at Australis, but after staying there for a week I was very relieved and had a fantastic stay. The staff were fantastic, extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. Location is walking distance to the beach and to local amusement centres. The food at the restaurant was great, prices were reasonable and service there impecable. We stayed in a one bedroom unit which had plenty of room for myself and my 2 sons - separate bedroom, lounge, kitchenette and balcony - although rooms are in need of refurbishing, carpets and furniture getting a bit tired and worn. Kids loved the pool. Room rates were great value especially for that time of year. We stayed during the January school holidays and I don't think we would have been able to book anywhere else with the same facilties at the same price. All in all, we had a really great experience at this hotel and would stay there again if we ever returned to Surfers.

when we first arrived reported air con was not working, several hours later we were told it wasnt there problem to fix it as we were staying in a classic holidays owned room and we would have to wait till monday,(checked in friday)after constant complaints we were stuck in a hot room without fans or air cond.
saturday morning fortunately for us there was a cancellation in another room so we moved to it after a hot and sleepless night.thankfully the new room had working air con but thats about all.
two towels for four people, so we were told by reception "just find a cleaner on your floor"
a bedroom where the door wouldnt close at all. the balcony was disgusting and dirty with rubbish in the garden everywhere, and a non smoking resort with butt everywhere.
the curtains were so thin you may as well not close them, it was a sunrise wake-up every morning.
the room had ants in it everywhere not to mention the smell once you went out the door.
and what type or resort doesnt give you clean sheets and towels when you have a 7 day booking?
so if you are thinking of making a booking here i strongly suggest you think again this place is a total dive

I stayed at this hotel with my Fiance between Christmas and New Years, and while a stay on the Gold Coast at this time of the year was by no means cheap, we thought this hotel presented excellent value for money compared to what we could have paid elsewhere. Rooms and the hotel in general are clearly getting a little tired, but at least we could see our room had been recently painted, and everything was nice and clean. We had an issue with our air conditioner that was quickly seen to by hotel staff, and they threw in complementary breakfast too. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to someone looking for value for money, friendly service and a good location close to the beach - if you're after 5 star luxury however, pay the premium and try one of the many more expensive hotels on the coast.

We checked in and found our room, which was dark and dingy. There were no pillows, so had to ask for them, then discovered there was no remote control for the TV and it would not work without one so had to request a remote. Air con unit was noisy - husband had to fix it. The room was SMELLY, there were COCKROACHES in the bathroom, and the soap dish in the shower fell off the wall as soon as I put a cake of soap on it.

Booked via Hotel Club, the explanations of the bedding configurations were poor. We requested a room with a queen or double bed, but got a twin room (ie 2 singles).

Being 8 months pregnant, all I wanted was a decent night's sleep in a clean room. In hindsight we should have booked a motel. There is no way this place is up to even 3.5 star standards and at $156 for the night we expected better.
