BreakFree Beachpoint
Reviewed 10 October 2010

Just returned from a stay at Breakfree Beachpoint during the school holidays. After hearing the bad reviews on here re this hotel, I was a bit unsure what it would be like. No need to worry, this hotel was fantastic. Our room was clean and had all the modern fittings, etc. We were located on the 12th Floor and had a view of the beach and nearby Adrenalin Park. Amenities were good with an outdoor pool, BBQ and tennis court plus an indoor pool, spa and sauna which we mainly utilised. Service was friendly and helpful. We were about 5 minutes walk from Cavill Avenue (Mall) where we found ourselves a few evenings. Only disadvantage was some noisy neighbours in a nearby hotel making a lot of noise for about 3 nights but not our hotels fault. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Beachpoint over the Easter weekend. I booked two units, one for my family of five and one for friends with a family of four. We got a lovely unit on the 9th floor with plenty of room, views of the ocean and also of Adrenalin Park, our unit was very modern and had been tiled throughout, but our friends unit on the 10th floor was obviously the original 1980's decoration with stained carpet and furniture that looked like it would collapse if you sat on it. The units are in a very central position so you can walk just about everywhere and directly across from the beach. We would stay there again.

The price (50% discount) and the location were good, but the apartment was below expectations. The large lounge rug was soaking wet, but we were told that the carpet cleaner had just left and it would dry. The large sliding glass door had a metre long part where the glass was detached from the frame. After much complaining about the safety aspect their maintence man came and taped it up with masking tape. Evidently it was a common occurance. The twin bedroom has a ceiling fan that was very dirty and the walls and wardrobe door had dark dust/fluff from the ceiling down 50cms. The female receptionist was rude and would ignore guests while talking on the phone. In the apartment was a notice stating both bath and pool towels were available, but she said only the more expensive pool towels were available. There was no sorry - just attitude.
We requested an early checkin as we were transferring from Sea World; were told they would ring us as soon as it was ready. We paid for two hours late checkout at Sea World and in the end went to Broadbeach to wait. When we got to Beachpoint we were told it had been ready for a while but no-one had rung us.

We were first placed in an apartment on the 7th floor. This apartment was dark, old furniture and decor, fans were caked with dust and the ocean could only be seen if you leaned over the balcony. There was an air-conditioning unit for only the living room, (from god knows what decade) however it was extensively rusted and had a piece of paper saying out of order. The kitchen pantry had giant holes cut in all of the shelves, meaning nothing could be put in there. Upon looking for more cupboards to place our food we found that the rest of the spare cupboards were locked except for the cupboard under the sink. (Hardly a place to be storing food)

As we were very unhappy with the prospect of sleeping in such a place, we approached the reception, enquiring as to why the cupboards were locked and why there was no air-conditioning. We were told that only 20% of the apartments are air-conditioned and that the owner shouldn't have locked so many cupboards for his personal use.

Being desperate we asked to be moved to another apartment, this time it was on the 3rd floor. It was cleaner, brighter and had air-conditioning, but again the decor, walls and furniture were old and worn. Again there was little view of the ocean, but we had a perfect view of adrenaline park across the road, which was lovely to look at at night , with the occasional scream. We also had to put up with probably a cockaroach infestation, as most of the corners of the living room and in almost every nook and cranny of the kitchen were cockroaches. However I think we combated this by the first day.

The location is great, only about a 5 min walk to and from cavill mall and the beach was just across the road.

We never really used the outdoor pool as it was raining, but the indoor pool and spa were ok, except that the pool was very deep and you couldn't venture out too far in or away from the edge if you were short or not a strong swimmer.

I don't recommend Breakfree Beachpoint to anyone except maybe schoolies who just want something close to the action in Cavill avenue. Everyone else should stay away.

I stayed here at the beginning of November for 6 nights with my mother, younger brother, my partner and our son in a 2 brm apartment. We were happy to have a beachfacing apartment and it was clean. However, the rug had been steamcleaned or something obviously just before we got there, so everytime we (or our toddler) walked on it, we left wet (and then dirty) footprints all over the floor. We said something about it as obviously it was a pain, but they just told my mother it had just been cleaned. In saying that though, they did let us check in early, however it took all day and night for it to dry. They knew we had a toddler as they supplied us with a cot, and I was irritated by this as a toddler with wet feet is obviously an accident waiting to happen.
Yes, we could hear the people on the slingshot and the vomatron, but we weren't really concerned about it.
Security in this building is tight. So tight, that you need a key to get OUT of the parking garage. No sensor. Which makes for a very very annoying exit if you have attached your room key to your car keys to avoid losing them. Also, the garage doesnt have an entrance or an exit, instead it has 2 entrance/exits, so we nearly collided with other guests as we entered and they exited, as it the entrance/exit is barely wide enough for two vehicles. Lifts were slow, which I could take or leave really, but it was very irritating considering the hallways weren't airconditioned.
The intercoms have just been changed/replaced/fixed/something so we were fortunate that there was a cleaner who was able to tell us that our babysitter needed to push 1 to let us in, not asterix as per the instructions right by the intercom/phone in our room. Seriously, how hard is it to change a laminated piece of paper in a room?
Location is excellent. The walk was shorter than I anticipated to Cavill Ave and it wasn't too noisy (apart from a drunket idiot who shouted at his mate for the good part of an hour to be let in at 3am - some things can't be helped)
Price, was good. Getaway or another similiar travel program meant we paid $105 a night for a self contained 2 brm unit.
However, as the sliding door out to our balcony BROKE towards the end of our stay, on top of the other issues during our stay, we wouldn't go back. It was taped (yes, taped) up overnight by someone who had clearly done this before and then fixed the next day by someone who seemed to have done it before also! What an annoying thing to have to deal with, a door which seemed to be able to be broken in to at any minute, in an apartment which was only on the 3rd floor, and didnt look secure when we have a toddler. Receptionist was rude and couldn't have cared less. There was a younger guy there who was nice and also friendly though.
In short, don't stay here, especially if you are being charged real money. If you get a cheap deal like we did, I would recommend hunting for something else.
Oh. Decor was also really weird however I understand each apartment is probably different. Bathrooms were newish but building is older than the sun.

We stayed on the ninth floor in a modern apartment , that was clean and had a great view of both the beach and the hills.
The location , across the road from the beach was great.
The pool and facilities were great and the staff very friendly.
The apartment was secure and the deck doors all locked.

my husband, daughter and i were looking froward to our stay at the beachpoint but where a little disappointed. The staff had friendly smiles and we checked in right on 2pm which wasn't a problem. Then we went up to our 2bdrm 4th floor room and were surprised by how old the furniture and carpet was. The rooms where big but very outdated ( nothing like a fresh coat of paint and a trip to ikea wouldn't fix). The room was a but slimy on the tiles and the room was very sticky when you first walked in.
We were facing south which meant that we could see the amusement area eg slingshot etc, but it wasn't a bother to us and i couldn't understand in other reviews how people complained about the noise and goings on over there. We never heard any noise from over there and we where there from Tuesday to Sunday.
The Beachpoint has a great location, only 3 streets from Cavil and across the road from the beach. We walked everywhere and it made it easy for our daughter ( 6yo) to rollerblade and not complain about walking far.
The only real thing that got us really disappointed was we had a dvd player in our room when we checked in and 3 days into our stay it disappeared. We had just got back from dinner and had sat down on the lounge when we noticed it gone. We had no notification that someone was in our room and if we hadn't of noticed they wouldn't of said anything to us about entering our room. It might sound a bit petty but if something else had gone missing who would be to blame? A bit of notice or just a quick note in our room would have been sufficient.
All in all the beachpoint has a great location but is in desperate need of some tlc and a big makeover to continually compete with the luxury resorts surrounding it.
