“MEMORABLE SCHOOLIES...NOT”
Reviewed 14 December 2009

i stayed at magic mountain for my schoolies.
it was awful, no airconditioning ( well there was, however getting a remote which was asked for 7 times on our stay was far too difficult and we never received it!!!), dryer didnt work, no glasses to drink from, false advertisements left in their information brochures ( thi ended up costing us more money, the resort accepted no responsibility for anything!), no washing line. to sum it up, there was something wrong with everything!
management were slow....VERY SLOW, (i have an investment property so i understand basicly how things work in this environment) and theirways of doing things were awful. the frustration i endured made shoolies a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons!
management although slow, were even less helpful, the girls behind the desk had no idea which way was up, my group knew more and we were on holidays, none of us were from qld?!? there manners were also horrible!
too far from town, but thats another false advertising story which i could go on for years!
because this was a resort, management whent home at 5, so if there was a problem, you had to wait untill 9 the next morning, or whenever they felt like it really?! there was however a number you could call the lady i spoke to was very helpful, however not helpfull enough to change my views of magic mountain. i am debating the issue of asking for some kind of compensation for my troubles because the entire resort just made the 7 days unnessessarily difficult. the facilities look amazing on the outside, and the rooms have potential, however, a large ammount of money, time and care needs to be implemented to the tasks. having visited a few other rooms however, they were ALL better than ours on looks and quality, and the groups payed LESS than our $4000. plus our $1000 bond! please tell me of any other issues you have had as i could list some more...
-soap holder glued and feel off
-showerhead duck tapped on
- no dryer
- air con (lack of!)
- curtains didnt open
- no washing line
- lights didnt switch on
- fire alarm ( flat, beeped, left 2 days to fix)

im not adding photos..they are awful!

We had booked the Pent-House, and we were instantly shocked to find NO AIR CONDITIONING …. In QLD”s heat you’d think The 'Pent House' would have Air Con ..! The staff commented how they have mentioned this to the owners a few times.

The Lift to the Pent-House Stinks, it’s that musty moldy smell. That sticks in your nose.

Honestly for the charges it is not worth it what so ever, we stay often in QLD and there is so much better for your money out there. Look for the smaller places. I will write a review for one if its on here.

The refunding of the money was an ongoing drama also.

Have just returned from Magic Mountain and what can i say... Fantastic!! Please dont let the following reviews put you off. Travelled with family 2 adults and 4 children aged 10, 11, 12 & 12. The apartment was huge (we stayed in a 3 bedroom ocean view apartment) with a great view of the sea. Our room number was A11, but if you can try to get the room above that. The view to the city in A11 is partially blocked by a couple of trees however, if your tall, or stand on a chair you can easily see Pacific Fair (shopping mall) and Conrad Jupiters (casino). On arrival (Sunday afternoon) there was no-one manning the front desk and the door to reception was locked. Through the intercom system someone arrived to give us our key and swipe card to the gates. The apartment was huge! A large lounge and dining area which opens on to the big veranda (overlooking the sea). The main bedroom has a walk in wardrobe and ensuite. The other room (double bed) had a small veranda overlooking the bottom pool. The final room had two single beds. The main bathroom had a shower over the bath and a slide door hiding the washing machine and dryer. Did i mention the kitchen had a dishwasher (what more could you ask for?).

I cant really comment on service beacause we never had to deal with any of the workers, i guess we were lucky. The pools were great enjoyed by all. We mostly spent our time in the middle pool (heated) and the spa(overlooking amazing views of the ocean and Surfers Paradise). We dipped in and out of the top pool (but was freezing at this time of year). The shops at the bottom of the hill are ok (for essentials) however, im not sure about paying $7.00 AUD a fish(you can work that one out).

On the whole... We had a fabulous time at Magic Mountain! We are very down to earth people however have stayed at many hotels and resorts all over the world. Last tip... Pay the extra for ocean view. Its worth it!!!

Magic mountain was everything we thought it would be. We visited in April 2009 with our 4 children aged 5-12. The kids had a ball in each of the 3 pools they have especially the rooftop pool which has amazing views of the Gold Coast and of the Ocean.
We were lucky enough to be upgraded to an Ocean View room as soon as we arrived and the sunrises are just incredible.
We had our own car so the climb up the hill wasnt really a problem for us, and we did venture out for a few walks. Older folk or people with disabilities would not be advised to walk down the hill then back up.
The bus to surfers leaves from virtually right out the front on the Gold Coast Hwy and costs hardly anything for a daily ticket between Miami and Surfers.
The group of shops on the doorstep have 2 of the best bakeries in Australia, the pies are simply amazing.
A great tip by another reviewer is to take your own food and water to the theme parks to avoid getting riipped off. The little IGA just down the road has 2 litre bottles chilled for $1.50.
The rooms were spacious and clean and although we didnt cook for the 10 nights we stayed there the stove etc were in good condition.
The beds were comfortable too and each room has great views of the lagoon pool. The atmosphere was very family friendly.
One piece of advice is DO NOT FEED THE MAGPIES!! They are pests on the balcony and multiply quickly if there is food around. They even come into the rooms if you leave the door open.
Theme park tickets are discounted at the reception (cheaper than RACV). If you are looking for great deals on Theme Park tix try ebay. they always seem to have 50% off dreamworld/whitewater world vouchers which we used and saved a fortune.
Overall you cannot go wrong with Magic mountain and as they have so many rooms i would advise to book closer to your intended holiday to save a bit of money.

We stayed in this hotel over New Years Eve and it was very impressive. As it is set up on a hill it has the most amazing views of Surfers Paradise. The infinity pool at the top of the resort, so called because the sea looks like a continuation of the pool itself as it drops over the side, is stunning. The apartment was massive - it had 3 bedrooms and comfortably slept 6 adults and 2 children. It was clean and reasonably priced. Although it is a taxi ride away from Surfers, there is a beach and a nice restaurant within walking distance (however the uphill climb back to the resort is a killer!). I would definitely stay here again

I've appreciated being "forewarned" by the tripadvisor reviewers so thought I'd add my 2c worth ... stayed 10 nites at Magic Mountain in April. Two adults, two teenagers, in a 2 bedroom hinterland view apartment. Magic Mountain in excellent location if you have a car - very easy to drive around Brisbane/Gold Coast btw.

Pros: location, very good value for money, apartment was spacious and relatively quiet, nice grounds and pools.

Cons: apartment contents dated and probably needed a darned good clean. TV and fridge both weren't working properly - required several phone calls to reception (and personal visits) eventually fixed but had to wait couple of days for second tv to work.
Lots and lots of stairs with no lifts so DON"T think about here if you've got older folk or kids equipment to haul up and down. We're all fit and abled body, but even for us the four flights of stairs carrying groceries and suitcases up was a bit offputting after a while.

After reading some of the reviews I was prepared for it to be really grubby but was pleasantly surprised by the level of cleanliness when we arrived. Be warned that as in most holiday apartments, it is only serviced weekly. The washing machine and dryer are really handy though, so I ended up washing towels daily. Not exactly a "holiday" from chores though!

Would I stay there again? No.. Would probably spend a bit more and stay somewhere with better reviews.

HOWEVER, don't be too put off - just be prepared. This is good value for money, esp with deals going at the moment. Plus if you're out and about at tourist attractions all day, then really all you need is a place to relax and sleep. The nearby Coles is a two minute drive and makes for good cost savings if you're feeding the family before you go to the hideously expensive (to eat) theme parks.

Would definitely recommend you take extra towels (esp beach towels) and no face cloths are provided. We stocked up on laundry powder and dishwashing powder (only one sachet is provided of each)

Would also recommend that you buy bottled water from Coles and take a bottle or two of that to the theme parks when you go (cost 50c) . Will save you approx $8 which will make you feel good :)

All the best to my fellow travellers

BTW for the shoppaholics: the new Robina Shopping Centre is huge and well worth a visit (15 mins drive from Magic Mountain)

We all really liked our stay at Magic Mountain Resort that I'm compelled to let everyone know about it, so here it goes, WARNING: Long Review.
The Apartment:
We stayed in a 3 bedroom penthouse (Aparment C5) with 2 two other couples and their young children. There was alot of room and space for the kids to run around and play. The main bedroom had an ensuite, a walk in robe, king size bed, tv and aircon. The second bedroom had a double bed and tv. The 3rd room had two single beds. All rooms had doors leading to the balcony, not much of a beach view, too many tall trees but you can see the city and lights at nights plus there's a Barbeque and outdoor dining tables and chairs.
The laundry has a dryer, washing machine, iron, bucket and mop. There's a bathroom with a bath and shower and another toilet next to the laundry.
The kitchen has nice granite bench tops, dishwasher, microwave, oven, electric stove and all kitchen untensils (if you stay here, the chopping board is placed next to the microwave, we didn't find it until the last day when we were cleaning up!). The dining area and the lounge area is very spacious, there's a huge wall to wall mirror, tiles flooring (there's a couple of steps going down to the front door so if you have very young children make sure you constantly watch them as they may not see the steps and because it's all tiles can get really slippery when wet) having said that we didn't have any problems at all with our 17month old and 3 year old kids, we just had to watch the younger one.
The apartment was clean, tastefully decorated and had everything we needed, the appliances easy to operate.
There's a lift for the penthouse block which you can access to the double car park underneath. There's an intercom and the key and FOBs were easy to use to get around the resort.
The Resort: Yes there are alot of steps and can be really tiring for the younger kids but we didn't venture downstairs that much as we used the Infinity pool most of the time and didn't need to go to Reception at all (we self-checked), also we used the lifts most of the time to go to the car or walk down to the shops.
There are 3 pools, the lagoon pool is located near the reception with sandy areas for kids to play with, a spa, sauna, toilets and BBQs. The small pool (I think is heated in winter) is located in between the lagoon pool and the infinit pool. The infinity pool was not heated when we stayed there but the spa was nice and hot, there's a small gym, kids entertaniment room and toilet. The view from this area is magnificent, you can see Surfers and the beach. The night view is really stunning, we took so many photos here, the kids really enjoyed this pool and us adults really enjoyed the spa.
Overall layout of the resort, it's on a hill so you would expect alot of stairs, but who cares when you see the views from the top.
We didn't notice any smells from the rubbish bin or anything unclean around the resort facilities.
It rained a few days during our stay but didn't deter us from having fun at the resort and the theme parks. The rain didn't stop the kids from swimming in the pools, they couldn't wait to get back to the resort from our daily activities!
The location was perfect, very easy to get to places and wasn't too far away from everything like the theme parks, surfers, airport etc. We loved the beaches in this area, there are a few inlet type beaches that are shallow and safe for young children to swim and it's not busy like the main beaches of Surfers and Broadbeach. Burleigh is just a few minutes drive and has to be our favorite, so many kids playgrounds! the beach is clean and a short drive up the mountain will take you to Currumbin rock pools!
Our stay at the resort was made even better by the services we received from Sunmore Holidays (especially Tony), we booked the apartment through them via their website, they provided extra beds for the kids, a gas bottle for the BBQ delivered the next day when we ran out of gas the previous night, and answered my too many questions.
I highly recommend this apartment, book it privately not through the resort, it's alot cheaper and you will get great accommodation and service.
