“terrible - dirty, hot and noisy”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2011

We paid a lot of money through Flight Centre (never again) to stay here and it was a dump. Backpackers at best. There was no airconditioning and no fans outside the bedrooms. The stove didnt work and the dishwasher was over 20 years old. We had to ask for pillows and a blanket for the 4th person as there were only enough for 3. It was too hot to close the doors and the noise from the nightclub below kept us awake until 4am, then the beach constructions started at 6. The carpet was sticky with burns in it, you couldnt see out of the windows for dirt, there were lipstick kisses all over the balcony door, the bathroom was mouldy and the fittings and fans were covered in black dust. We asked about other rooms and were told 'they are pretty much the same". The fire alarm was disconnected, and when I told them, they sent another one up but I had to fit it. I lived in a nicer flat in the 80's. The spa was broken for some of our stay. The kids loved the pool and location but we ended up tired, hot and sleep deprived.

We stayed in a two bedroom apartment for 5 days in November 2010 with our young kids aged 8 & 5. The apartment was quite clean when we arrived but it's fair to say looking a little tired in some areas. For example the carpet on the bedroom floor was quite worn in some areas. However we weren't concerned about inspecting the cosmetic condition of the hot water system, or looking behind the TV for tiny marks on walls as another reviewer was. With young kids we feel more relaxed staying in a place that obviously isn't brand new! The apartment is quite spacious, especially the living areas & the long balcony.
The view was good and our kids loved spending hours in the hotel pool & spa. The pool seemed to be very clean but the spa seemed to have an excess of detergenty bubbles at times.
The reception staff member we spoke to was friendly & helpful, and booked a taxi to the airport for us on our last day.
The best thing about this place is the location, it's very close to everything, only a few minutes walk to the beach, Cavill Avenue, take-aways, bottle shops, etc. The 'Cafe Nami' located in the base of the building is great. Another reviewer complained about being able to hear cars driving on the streets below but this really wasn't an issue for us, even though we were on one of the lower floors.
So it's not a brand new 5-star luxury hotel, but it's not claiming to be either. For a relaxed family getaway in a great location, it's fine.

We usually travel to the Gold Coast annually, and have stayed at various different hotels and apartments.
This time we decided to stay at the Sufers International as we had been recommended it by friends in NZ. We have two young children and opted for the 2 bedroom apartment. Upon our arrival we greeted by very friendly and helpful reception staff - they went out of their way to recommend restaurants and attractions to visit and even offered to organise a rental car at discounted prices!
The apartment was presented beautifully and met my high standards of cleanliness. Views from our balcony we second to none - looking out onto the ocean - not to mention the amazing location. We were a block from the ocean, and the shopping and restaurants all within a two minute walk.
I would not hesitate in recommending the Surfers International to any family looking for a comfortable, clean and value for money holiday destination. (in fact we have already booked for our holiday next year!)

Was a bit worried after reading trip advisor, dont be put off though. We had a one bed unit on the 10th floor with amazing views. Very comfortable room, friendly staff and across the road from just about everything. Pool was huge and heated. Will go back again.

This is to advise anyone looking for a clean place not to go there. The location is great but it is more like a backpackers stay...dirty, smelly, we did not use the onsuite because it was smelly. There items left on the cupboards /shelves from previous occupants. Carpets are dirty.Balcony and outdoor furnitures dirty. It has a sauna that we could not use. From outside looks ok and the website is only a way to sell but is not what it looks in their website. It is not fair that we pay $2000 for 5 nights ...we were ripped off. I DO NOT Recommend it at all!!!!

On arrival it seems decent; great view and relatively comfortable. But over time (we stayed for a week) we noticed flaws. Our dishwasher didn't work, a shelf in the fridge was cracked, dodgy fans and doors that come off hinges, and a leaky washing machine that flooded the bathroom and nearly caused a serious accident.

We reported these things to reception and our dishwasher was fixed. However we noticed that reception was closed for a lot of the time. Eg - the day before we left, we got a letter saying we had a phone bill to pay before 5pm that day. It was around 4.30 and we went down to reception to pay but it was closed??

The upsides include a great beach side view which also brings in a pleasant breeze and a good location which is close to many things such as shops and entertainment areas as well as the major bus stop.

Spa/pool/sauna facilities were adequate however at times the spa did not seem hygienic.

My partner and I found the Surfers International to be exactly what we were looking for on our recent trip to Surfers Paradise. Not only did it have location, location, location the room itself was very spaciuos and comfortable and had the most spectacular views. The unit had a comfortable queen size bed. There is a lounge area, seperate bathroom (off the bedroom) and kitchen (with full cooking facilities and plenty of pots and pans and cooking utensils etc) there is also a seperate laundry area (which does help with the noise and heat that the dryer does create) the free Austar was also nice to come home to after a big day at the themeparks.

We had friends come and visit us and there was plenty of visior parking (on the premises) and the pool and bbq area were great.

The staff were also friendly and booked all of our tours and gave us ideas of where to go and things to do.

We were worried about staying there after reading some of the reviews but found once we got there we had nothing to worry about and will definitely go back.
