“Disappointed”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

One Bedroom Ocean View apartment on 21st floor was quite disappointing. The Peninsula hotel smack bang in front and a little bit of ocean on either sideas a view. For the money we spent ($985 4 nights), l thought it wouldve been better. The room was bright, yet too much at night time - The blinds were pathetic and might as well not been there. The indoor heated pool was cold, so for June l didnt get a swim at all. The best bit was definately Longboards Cafe - we ate there everyday. The service and food was yum - Q1 is lucky to have them there.

Room Tip: You need to be much higher than our 21st floor to get a good view.

Having booked 7 months in advance, we thought we could get a guarantee on a request for a high room. Up until the time of check in, the staff would not confirm what floor we were booked in to. The call centre staff were exceptionally rude and got angry at me a few days out from my reservation for asking if we could get any information on the room that was booked, ie the floor number.

Luckily we were given a high room in the end which was absolutely beautiful.

Unfortunately the lack of customer service from not only the phone staff but also the 2 female receptionists on duty (8/6) we were left with an awful taste in our mouths.

Upon check in, we were greeted by 2 women who I can assume are incredibly miserable with their jobs. Both invited us up to the reception desk at the same time and when we chose the left of the 2 of them, the one on the right rolled her eyes at us.

We then explained we were early for check in as our flight was a little early and we queried if we could check in early if the room was ready. The lady rudely told us that we were way too early (9am) and we would have to wait until approximately 2 pm once the room had been cleaned. At this point, she still would not confirm what floor we were booked in to. I'm still unsure why this was kept such a secret. She agreed to call us if the room was ready before 2pm. This call never came and we decided to check back 4 hours later at 1pm and was miraculously told the room had only just been cleaned and was now ready.

In regards to the room, it was a beautiful apartment but it is getting a little tired. There was a constant wind whistle coming under and through the front door which was quite annoying and we can only assume this is an a issue with the way the building was built. The view was very impressive from our room which overall saved this holiday for us.

With so many new hotels on the Gold Coast, I would not be booking here again and will not be recommending this to my family and friends. The new Soul hotel in surfers paradise has given the q1 some healthy competition and I believe the q1 will need to learn how to provide exceptional customer service in order to keep up.

Room Tip: Book at soul.....

Great place to stay, clean, easy to access and close to everything. Small problem with the laundry door, but was quickly dealt with by the staff. I would recommend for families or couples that want a central location on the Gold Coast.

We stopped in for a night and if I had my choice I would stay at the Marriott any day.No luggage to room service and frankly the place is already looking a little beat up. They call it contemporary however it is ageing already with the chipboard table swelling and a sterile finish throughout.

The view is exceptional but the service is lacklustre and the rooms are just barely a 4 star in my book. We won't be back as for nearly $300 per night ( 1 Bedroom) there is better value along the strip at Surfers. We have stayed at the Marriott many times and we do not consider the service and attitude of front desk staff anywhere near comparable

Room Tip: Get high floors as the rest must suffer under the weight of poor service and attention to detail in...

We arrived at Q1 in the early evening after a flight and a drive into Surfers from the airport. We were welcomed by a lovely lady at reception who upon check in advised us that we had been upgraded free of charge to one of the penthouses. This was fantastic as our family was visiting the Gold Coast celebrating our daughters birthday. The room was absolutely stunning with phenomenal views of the beach and ocean! The penthouse was clean modern and very spacious with lots of room for the 6 of us! Centrally located it is in a perfect spot for sightseeing and close to shopping etc. fully equipped kitchen and menus for local business' that are happy to deliver to your room! Our whole family loved this property so much that we have decided to stay here every time we visit the Gold Coast as we are afraid no other resort will stack up to this place ( we did stay at one other hotel after Q1 and hated it )!!!! We will definitely be back!! Loved it! And thank you for the upgrade guys, very much appreciated!

The veiw was FANTASTIC , but the hotel was ridiculous the toilet wouldnt flush it was loud throughout the night so we turned it off. The curtains in the main room wouldnt work so we didnt have much to see. I told the maintanace people that they didnt work when they arrived to fix problems from the people before our stay. We hadnt even settled into our hotel 15minutes into the stay and we had q1 maintanace men fix stuff . The cups were still dirty and plates , it was freezing and there wasnt any spare blankets what so ever. Theres a door near the living room and its so loud sounds like theres a shower running 24/7. There was a plug that had no cover over it so someone could have got an electric shock. The vaccum had absolutely no suction in it so i emptied the bag found that it was full off smoke butts, chips & ballons this was still on the first night i stayed there. I called q1 receptionist and told them i still didnt hear from them on the 3 night i thought that was a rip off !! wouldnt recommend the sub-penthouse to any family and friends

We stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment on level 31. We were 4 adults & 3 children.

The best part of staying in the apartments is that they offer a huge living room allowing the chidren a lot of space to play & for adults to chill. They have a nice swimming pool, spa & gym to relax. The location is fantastic as it is near to the esplanade & the main road giving access to public transport. The convenience store on ground floor is not of much use but you have many nearby which stock everything you will need.

Now for the disappointments ! One of the 3 rooms did not have any airconditioning so children could not sleep in a separate room as we had planned. They layout of the 3 bedroom shown on website is very different to what we got. Many door locks of bathroom were not working. One dishwasher was not working.

Otherwise it is a great place !!
