Fantastic food at this lovely, tastefully decorated restaurant in Townsville. Great menu with lots of interesting dishes, most of which can be ordered at an entree or main size - good if you can't decide on just one dish! Service was very friendly too. Looking forward to visiting again to try more of the delicious food and to see if the cocktails live up to expectation.

Our family went to have an afternoon lunch in this place located next to the riverside. The decoration inside is elegant and modern.

Since it started to be a bit late for lunch, perhaps the staff was not anymore so carefully attending. Instead of grilled fish, the kids got battered fish. I took octopus but they were so burned that I had to, rare for me, return the food. The second attempt was good, tasty and properly done, slight taste of chilly, as it was promised. Also the battered fish was good, the kids liked it, so we did not changed it.

What makes a good management is that in the unfortunate moments of problems, the manager steps up and takes care of the issue. He brought personally the 2nd octopus and asked a couple of times if that was fine and did not start to question if the 1st octopus was burned or not (well, it was one side black…).

Without any requirements by us, he offered the kids (battered instead of grilled) fish for free. So, there were some problems but they were solved in the way customers left the restaurant satisfied.

Fabulous menu for this special evening. Each of the five courses was well designed and incredibly tasty and came with well chosen wines. Wish we lived closer!

I have to warn people about this main. The bugs are shredded with some other salad component added and served as two small mounds on the plate. Each mound consisted of about 4 tablespoons. This was supposed to be a main meal costing $36! I am a small person of 52kg and I dont each that much, but this was a ridiculously small serve more like an entree. Very different from the other mains served at the table which were a good size. However I went home hungry which should never happen at a good restaurant especially when you are paying that sort of money. This is the first time I've ever ordered bugs and they have been shredded, they are usually served whole, also the dish was bland. This meal needs to be taken off the menu. It is a total rip off. I found the service slow and we had long waits between courses. It was a busy Saturday night but the management know what the bookings are and should employ enough staff to deal with it. After ordering and still no bread after 30 minutes I had to resort to asking the waitress for it and later a second glass of wine was forgotten with the mains and we had to ask for this as well. Bread should come out fairly quickly as it doesn't take a lot of effort to put some on a plate. It also seemed that a few staff, the younger female waitresses, were doing all the work with other staff doing very little. To the owner of A touch of Salt, the Moreton Bay bugs dish should be taken off the menu immediately, honestly would you be happy paying $36 for that size meal? This has put me off ever ordering bugs again. Also you need to do something about the service. It's all too chaotic. Look, otherwise the venue is in a very nice location down by the river and lovely decor. The other meals at the table were great and tasty. I would have been writing a good review, in spite of the slow service, if my main had been reasonable. It was very disappointing and ruined the evening. If you don't order the bugs and don't mind a wait you will probably have a very nice evening. However, I wont be going back here in a hurry.
