This is a beautiful place to visit in a city which really knows how to create open space for residents and visitors to share and enjoy - whether along the river, by the beach or in other unexpected corners. The Palmetum is glorious at all times of day and all seasons with great variety of habitats and wildlife, my grandkids adore the shady pathways and opportunities for hide-and-seek and treasure hunts. But its crowning glory is the vibrant colony of flying-foxes near the entrance - fascinating to observe at all times of day but a breath-taking show when they gather to fly out around sunset. A real tourist opportunity in the making here - overseas and southern visitors are amazed and impressed. PS Take mossie repellent in summer or after rain.
