“Fantastic”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

My wife and I stayed here just after it reopened. Having stayed here when it was under its previous owners and management we were looking forward to seeing what if any changes had occurred. The accommodation was fantastic as was the service throughout. We even had the island to almost ourselves for one day with just the two of us and two staff.

Everything about this place is relaxing and well worth the money. The Seafood platter we enjoyed done by the Water on our last night was absolutely indulging and we were nowhere near able to finish it.

Whilst in your rooms you really feel like you are the only ones on the island, privacy is fantastic, all you can hear are the sounds of the ocean and the birdlife around.

Absolutely loved this place and hopefully will get an opportunity to visit again.

Having traveled all over the world and stayed in many of the best hotels/resorts I expect a lot from a resort of this price. The resort was lovely, relaxed and offered lots of activities. Loved the offering of food and wine and the little touches that made it special.

I would highly recommend that you have the seafood platter - was probably the best I have ever had.

But this resort relies on other fun and social couples to make it a truly fantastic experience. We were lucky enough to share our holiday with several couples with whom we became very good friends. Normally socialising is not my thing when it comes to holidays, but by the end of the trip I was sad to them them - not just the island!

Make sure you come down to the bar half an hour before dinner for a few cocktails and some laughs - it really makes the place.

The only negative about the resort is the plague of cane toads - they need to do something about that. They are everywhere as you walk back to your Villa at night.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon on Bedarra Island over Christmas. It was the perfect place to relax after a hectic year which culminated in our wedding. We were greeted by the owner, Sam, on the beach who apologised profusely for the rough seas and subsequent rocky (but fun!) boat ride over – the Mission Beach water taxi service was so brilliant and the people so lovely that his apology was completely unnecessary.

We stayed in Villa 15, which was very private with gorgeous views of the ocean and a plunge pool that we used constantly. We really felt like we were the only ones on the island, and it was only at meal times that we were reminded there were other guests.

The food was exceptional, every meal was a delight. After a week on the island we forgot what it felt like to be hungry, which is significant for my husband who is an athlete and therefore has quite the appetite! We also ordered the seafood platter which was just amazing. Christmas day was a definite bonus. Christmas lunch was spectacular with more seafood than anyone could possibly finish. My husband decided it was too gorgeous to go to waste and had seconds; as such he seemed to have gained quite the reputation amongst the staff for his seafood eating ability (a tale clearly shared amongst the staff that was divulged to us by another staff member who did not realise they were talking about my husband – oops!).

My only suggestion for the kitchen is to invest in a decent coffee machine and some high quality beans. Whilst the coffee-pod machines are passable for a stop-gap, a week without proper coffee was a killer; we honestly would have done anything for a decent macchiato.

Taking a boat over to our own island with a picnic was a real treat- the picnic was delicious and the surrounding islands are just magical. We also kayaked around the island, saw two turtles and managed to perfect stand up paddle boarding. The short walks to lookouts are also a must- a great way to burn off breakfast. We read lots of reviews saying the tennis court was hardly used, so on one rainy day we made sure to have a game – it really is a lovely court. The rest of the time we spent lounging around in our plunge pool, relishing having the space and time to enjoy each other’s company.

Finally the staff are wonderful – in fact we would have much preferred to have Christmas lunch with the staff than the other guests, they were much more our kind of people! Funny and engaging, helpful when needed, and respectful of guest’s privacy – they are truly wonderful people and a credit to the organisation.

My husband and I have travelled the world and stayed in some spectacular and unique accommodation, but nothing has felt as comfortable or private as Bedarra.

We will be back for a sneaky winter escape – hide your seafood guys! ;)

Elyse & Braedan

Room Tip: Booking a villa with a plunge pool is a wise investment.

We had a great honeymoon here in November. The weather was fantastic and the location is just picture perfect. I though the value for money with all inclusive meals and beverage were good compared to Lizard, Hayman and Qualia. My only thing was that they could have laid it on a bit thicker in regards to service. I was expecting a little more Lizard Island with cocktail waiters, real coffee and a la carte menu. Note to holiday peeps, Bedarra has about 10 staff for 14 guests and I believe Lizard have around 100+ staff for 70 guests. I think Bedarra back in it's hay day of Princess Fergie and Russel Crowe there were about 40 staff running around doing all the things a 5 star. Nowadays it's no where as full on and all the reviews do reflect that. I guess I was expecting just a little bit more. All in all it was really good.

Room Tip: Go for the beach front ones.

Excellent. It was great to see Bedarra back even better than it used to be in the days before P&O took it over way back when. Sam and Kerri-Ann have done a fabulous job getting it back into shape after the cyclone and with the able assistance of their dedicated staff it was truly a delight to stay. Congratulations. See you again soon. J&K

We spent 4 nights here for our honeymoon and could not have been any happier with our experience. The rooms were fantastic, the food is insanely amazing, staff is incredibly helpful, and the views are spectacular! We had an amazing time! Jason and Kayla are doing an amazing job and the staff were so incredible and really went the extra mile to make our honeymoon so amazing with beachside lunches and dinners. We had so much fun exploring other islands and kayaking around the island (and of course just lying poolside with a cocktail!) Thank you, thank you, thank you! We will definitely be back!!!!

We stayed over New Years Eve for five nights
Beautiful views but reef disappointing only a couple of sandy beaches other wise just coral beaches
We found that it wasn't valve for money
No choice of food -just placed in front of you !!
Could recommend the seafood platter which you have to pay extra to have
Rooms very nice
Didn't like the set up of the bar.
Disappointing having to ask for beach towels and toilet paper
When we boarded the boat to go across to Bedarra they said it was better than Lizard island
sorry it's no comparison

Dear Christine W

Thank you for staying with us at Bedarra over the New Year's Eve period. We are very pleased that you enjoyed our rooms and the seafood platter.

As an all-inclusive island resort set in a beautiful location, offering all gourmet meals, alcoholic and non- alcoholic beverages, free standing private villas and the use of water sports equipment as part of our tariffs we feel that we offer excellent value to guests.

To celebrate New Year's Eve at Bedarra during your stay we provided cocktails and canapés at sunset, live music & a seven course degustation menu which included Foie-gras imported from France, Caviar from USA and Cave Ripened Cheese from Spain, each course served with matching boutique wines, all at no additional cost to our guests.

Bedarra enjoys two glorious white sandy beaches directly in front of the resort, and another three private and sandy beaches within a leisurely 5-10 minute paddle on our sea kayaks. There is only one coral beach on the island which is a great location for beachcombing. In addition there are another 12 surrounding islands in the Family Island group, each offering beautiful beaches to relax on and are easily accessed with one of our motorized guest dinghies, the use of which are included in our tariff.

We apologize that you were required to ask for extra pool towels or toilet paper during your stay. We try and keep all our guest amenities fully stocked at all times, unfortunately on very rare occasions we fail to keep up with demand. We will always rectify any issue as soon as it is brought to our attention and we are sorry you experienced one of our rare lapses in attention to detail.

There are many beautiful island resorts along the coast of Queensland and we do not compare ourselves nor profess to be better than any of these other excellent resorts. Bedarra is unique and special - we try to offer an informal and relaxed island experience with an attentive yet not overbearing level of service to our guests.

We are always seeking ways to improve our service and appreciate your feedback.

Regards
Kayla & Jason
