We stayed here for 2 nights and it wasn't long enough for me! We stayed in one of the beach cabins which was perfect for us. The restaurant food was amazing, we had all our meals there, everyone on the island was so friendly and helpful. Would love to come again and stay longer. We did the lighthouse walk and the views were amazing! We did all the available walks on the island which we loved also the snorkelling was magnificent, see turtles everywhere! The experience was deffinatly worth the money and would love to come back and stay longer :-)

We stayed in the ocean view fully self contained apartment, and the adjacent studio room for the kids.
Great bits:
- We LOVED our ocean view room, the bedroom and balcony view in the fully self contained apartment was fantastic.
- Our rooms were really clean, and spacious, and modern.
- It was great to be able to snorkel whenever the fancy took, straight off the beach; this was the main reason we chose to visit, and although some parts were hit and miss ( see below) it was basically as we thought.
- Foxy's Restaurant was fun for us, prices equivalent to our local pub in Gippsland, Victoria, and this is a resort island. I was expected a bigger hit, and worse fare, but it was good.

Nice to do
- The lighthouse walk was fun; a little steep for the 7yo, but fun. It would have been good to have been able to go in, as we could see some information boards inside, but that doesn't seem to be an option now?
- Coming back from the lighthouse walk, our 7yo son was adamant if we climbed to the peak ( a steep detour) there would be a different way back. We couldnt remember, and given his age and the slight difficulty of the trek, thought, best not. It would have been nice to have a sign reminding us at that stage that if we went up further, we would not have to retrace our steps.

Not fab, but not a deal breaker.
- The kids room was the adjoining studio apartment. There was a couple of minutes when they thought they might snaffle our room, but they got over that misconception quick smart. Yes, it was dark, and the view was of the walkway. But it was very clean and serviceable. Design wise you would probably do it differently if you were the architect and you had your time again. We also had to wedge doors open with towels and flippers; it would be good if you could latch them back if you are using it as a family.
- It would have been great if the studio room had the option of two single beds, not just a double. The kids coped fine, but if they were older (they are 7 and 12), it may not have worked.
- We wanted off the beach snorkelling, and that is what Fitzroy Island does deliver, although it was a bit hit and miss for us on day one, not realising where the better snorkelling locations were, versus the beach locations. There is an outline in the hire shop on the resort, but as we brought our own equipment, we only lucked into where we were going.

Give it a miss:
- The glass bottom boat trip was very dear, and a complete fizzer. My son wasnt really able to snorkel as much as i thought, so we booked a gbb trip, $70 for two adults and two kids, and it was very very ordinary. Said son said (quite loudly, oops) "This is sooo disappointing." Barely any fish at all, and I am not a fussy person. Save your money if you have a non-snorkeller, it was awful.

Room Tip: Go ocean front if you dont want adjoining rooms with kids.

As Fitzroy Island was our last stop on our 14 days travel, we looked forward for our stay at this tropical island. The arrival was stunning. The surroundings, settings and look of the island is absolutely amazing. Stunning might be a good word.

Regardless of the environment, the resort could be such a nice place.
First off, we booked a 2 bedroom ocean suite. That's a nice name and sounds like a nice view on the ocean. That is however only for 1 bedroom instead of 2. What you really book is actually 1 bedroom with ocean view and another one faces a rock. They sell it as 'rainforest' but honestly? It's really just a rock. So basically, you get 1 ocean suite and 1 studio (bedroom + bathroom). The idea is that you leave your door open so you can go from the studio to the kitchen, don't close that door because you don't even get a key from the kitchen door. Overall, we where with 4 people, paying all 4 a fortune to stay there during Easter vacation (350 / night!) and only 2 of us got a nice view. Anyway... after some complaining at the reception, we received an upgrade for an additional 70 AUD / night which we accepted.

When finally arriving in our ocean suite, we quickly where down to earth again by spotting cockroaches in our bathroom. Now here comes the point where the staff really treats tourist as very naive people because time after time they sell this as 'being part of the rainforest'. Well that can be, but in my humbled opinion not if they sneak in via the toilet ridges and shower. After the third time of mentioning this item, we got a reduction on our room upgrade on the checkout.

The restaurant is actually funny. After a day of snorkeling you think to have a nice meal but the amount is so small that it all feels rather like an starter. My girlfriend order gnoci. She received a plate with only 9 gnocchi's on. You can have a laugh over it and move yourself to Foxy's bar to have a proper meal at decent prices.

Foxy's bar is great! And the guy who brings the live music is amazing.
The lady at the diving shop is uber friendly but the boat tour with glass bottom is a bit disappointing.

Overall, nice expensive island, pity about the foolish 2 bedroom ocean suite and the cockroach issue.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay here in an entry-level studio room without ocean view. Considering it was Easter school holidays, I thought this room was reasonably good value. The room was quite nicely furnished, although I thought the decor, particularly the dark tiles of the bathroom, would have been more at home in an Italian hotel, rather than a tropical island!? However, furnishings were really nice and the Queen sized bed was comfy and the lighting in the room was well done. The emphasis here though is about enjoying the lovely outdoors. There are a couple of lovely bush walks and the snorkeling is great with good coral in a couple of places and of course, beautiful, colorful fish and other sea life to see.

Foxy's was great for a sunset drink and dinner there was quite reasonably priced (although the quality was pretty average) but service was fast and friendly and there was a kid's menu making the place great for families. The free cinema was great with 3 screenings a day. Big screen and real cinema seats in the small cinema with around 30 seats. Board games could be borrowed from front reception, along with beach towels.
Recommend Fitzroy as an affordable tropical island escape but don't forget your sunscreen, thongs and insect repellent!

My husband and I just spent 5 nights on Fitzroy Island for our wedding Anniversary. Sensational place to stay. Can not fault it in any way. We had an ocean view suite which was clean and suprisingly large. Excepitonal service from all the staff including boat staff. Zephyrs restaurant meals were divine. We would not hesitate to reccomend this resort. Fully self contained unit so we shopped in cairns and brought food over in an esky. We had a wonderful time.
Huge Thankyou to all the staff on Fitzroy island you were all amazing. We will be back.

Room Tip: Well worth upgrading to a ocean view room.

I took my partner there for 4 nights and 5 days and it was our best, most relaxing holiday ever. We look forward to coming back later this year. The beaches were more coral than sandy but that's the location and we didn't see it as a flaw as there was a wonderful pool we spent all day next to. BEST HOLIDAY EVER!!
