“Lastminute trip to Fitzroy”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

We booked a last minute trip to Fitzroy Island and got a great deal. We only live in Cairns and dont take the opportunity to see these amazing islands enough. The weather was wet but the friendly and helpful staff more than made up for it. Really recommend the turtle sanctury tour and a hike up to the lookout.

Room Tip: We staying in a studio which was a bit dark, next time would definately upgrade to an ocean view.

My husband and I stayed at Fitzroy Island. We enjoyed our stay, but did see some ants and other bugs in the room. The bathroom was nice and updated. The room was clean. We ate a nice and expensive meal at the restaurant one evening. We bought many expensive fruity drinks at Foxy's bar. We rented snorkeling equipment, but the water was rough that day, so we didn't see anything. We really enjoyed the turtle tour! We went on all the hikes. We were slightly disappointed at the summit because there is currently construction around the summit, which prevents the views. I think they are building a viewpoint, which will be very cool when it is finished. The island was relaxing. We tried to save money by bringing our own breakfast food and some lunch food too, but we spent a lot of money on drinks. You can't bring your own alcohol.

You can't judge a company when everything goes right but when there is a problem. Very impressed by Debs in the dive shop who went above and beyond the call of duty when there was a mistake with our booking. Helped make my husbands birthday special. Fitzroy island itself is beautiful with a good balance of activities and laid back relaxation. Cocktails by the pool a lovely restaurant and a pub to make up for all the healthy activities snorkelling, hiking, canoeing, paddle boarding and diving. Staff are very friendly and we will definitely be back

Celebrating our 7 year wedding anniversary we decided to venture to fitzroy island. Arrived on a ferry ride from cairns.
The island is beautiful so natural and peaceful. We initially had booked a standard room, but the smell coming from being so close to nature was a bit over powering. ( damp water damage)
We called in at front desk and was offered an amazing suite with ocean views for $40 a night. We jumped on it.
Great stay will definitely be back.

My wife and I have been returning guests for four years now. We are locals and look forward each year to returning to this amazing resort. As always we were not disappointed.
We emailed, late, the night before asking if we could have an early check in, as we were returning guests. They not only replied straight away, but followed through with the request upon arrival. 1st class. The luggage was taken from us when we boarded the ferry and given to us at the reception at check in. Getting luggage to our 2nd floor ocean suite couldn't be easier. Very smooth flooring and a lift to take you to your floor. All walkways from the lift are carpeted and still looking nice and fresh 4 years on. Good on you guys. Broken floor tile at front edge in lift, since last time, but sure it's only a matter of time before that gets attended to.
Our room was 99% perfect. The top window shutter in 308 needs fixing. It doesn't close the window shutters properly, but again it is just a simple maintenance fix. There is a slight hole in the balcony furniture square table. Not an issue, just a note for the maintenance crew to be aware of. Again after four years. I'm amazed at how well maintened everything is.
The staff are all fantastic. Each and every one of them. Well done guys. Courteous, friendly and professional.
Foxy's bar is a great place to chill out after day on the beach. Drink prices are relatively good value. I would like a broader selection of food and miss the buffet night you had last year. Maybe it was just the time of the week we were there -Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.
Breakfast had a huge selection to choose from. Hot dishes weren't as hot as they could've been, but that may have just come down to bad timing on our behalf. It was just so nice to sit there each morning and soak up the atmoshere looking over the beach into the ocean. Just beautiful!
We really enjoyed seeing the turtle rehabilitation centre and made use of the inclement weather with a walk to the summit, which was certainly made easier with the steps that have been put in at strategic spots along the way.
In summing up, if you have two locals who have repeatedly returned to the same spot year after year, then you know that they must be doing a lot right, over and over again.
See you next year,
Mike and Amanda Stuart

Arrived via the ferry from Cairns. Seemless but minimally welcoming checkin. We had been travelling for a while and were left to our own devices to carry 3 heavy suitcases, cameras etc to 2nd floor room. Spacious light filled apartment but smelled very musty. Flourescent light in bathroom was strobing and despite calls to reception was unable to be dealt with until next morning. With guests above us, the noise from above was ridicuous so we changed rooms. Again, no assistance was offered to a couple in their sixties to relocate to the 3rd floor.
Vinyl sofa was torn and extremely uncomfortable. Stingy allocation of soap for 2 adults for 3 nights.
The restaurant was closed for Thursday night, so the bar/tavern was only alternative. The apartments have well equipped kitchens, so we thought the general store would offer fresh food for a light dinner. Apart from frozen pies/sausage rolls, crappy white bread and a few tins I was dismayed to see CAGED eggs on offer. This island is in a marine conservation area with a turtle rehab centre, yet thinks the torture of chickens is OK. The few magazines on offer were months old.
The service in the tavern was non existent and the food inedible. Parts of the tavern were so dark we had to use our phone torches to see what was inedible. Food choices were unhealthy, fast food offerings.
Bed was fine and fresh air was lovely with the waves lapping on the shore.
By the time we got to breakfast, the buffet had been pretty mangled. No low-fat milk, marmalade and terrible cheap bread etc.
Skipped lunch
Dinner was a disaster. We waited nearly 50 minutes for fresh line caugtht fish that was so overcooked I couldn't cut it. The vegetables were undercooked. Again inedible. Nice reisling by the glass. The manager was apologetic and took the meal off the check, so I went home hungry.
And so it continues. In desperation I ordered a bacon and egg burger the next day for dinner. Again, we waited 40 minutes and the burger arrived without the bacon and egg. When I pointed this out, the waiter questioned my memory! sigh. so fed up with attitude, poor food choices etc.
Turtle rehab was interesting and important.
We walked both Secret Garden walk and Nudey beach walk. Both advertised as 'easy'. Athough these walks were short there were parts that required you to clamber over large slippery boulders. Perhaps "uneven ground in parts' would be more accurate. Lovely walks though, with great bird life.
We had a special rate for these 3 days, so very glad we didn't pay the rack rate.
***Warning*** if you plan to stay here, take an esky with fresh fruit, free range eggs and healthy snacks.

Room Tip: Go for top floor.
