From Booking in at the Land Base ,Transport to the Ferry, across to the Island and up to the Hotel Really Easy. We had booked 4 Nights staying in a 2 Bedroom Villa...FIRST CLASS Accommodation, Everything There....Only Down side is getting to it if you have troubles climbing Hills or Steps ,especially in the dark and Wet. We were there when 3 year Drought decided to finish ...2 Days of tremendous rain especially during the night .. Rain straight away through the Sand.. No Problems Just made difficult walking down steep road .
Tours good ...Kirsty did ours Driving the 4 wheel drive truck and talking through out. Years of practice No doubt Very Good even through the on off rain during the day
Resort Hotel is very Impressive.. Lunch Time restaurant Very good food and not too bad price wise, Staff helpful especially in the restaurant and the lads around the resort with the bags. Spa treatments are good as well
Numerous Free Tours during the day with the rangers .Pool good and quiet, when we were there (something to do with the weather? Well Worth a Visit

Room Tip: Choose Carefully your Type of Accommodation if not active ..Hilly Area and Steps up. You can change...

Dear DAVEColchesterUk
You're absolutely right, showers of rain were a welcome sight in early March after one of the driest summers in several decases and they served to harden the sand tracks up nicely. It's great to see that you and your family enjoyed your stay and took advantage of the eco activities we have on offer at the resort. Thanks also for the shout out to Ranger Kirstey, which we'll be sure to pass on.

This is probably the best resort in the island.

Despite some criticism in TA, at least the room where we stayed had been renovated well. We had a small balcony with a nice view to green yard and the pond. A really plus is the location close to the beach and arrival/departure ferry, really nice and informative (free!) guided walks around the resort (especial thanks to Jan!) and possibility to walk around the island. You’ll see a lot of birds, large lizards, butterflies and various insects. Use mosquito repellent!

Obviously, you (should) take a day-tour to the island’s key sites but it is a really bumpy road. It is also a feeling of a rush packed tour, so most time you just look out of the window. Take the swimsuit for the dip into Lake McKenzie.

The breakfast is also really good and abundant. However, the restaurant prices are outrageous (buffet 43 AUD, so family dinner becomes really costly, a la carte about the same, pizza around 20 AUD). One of the restaurant is currently refurbished. Two nights is enough, I think.

Dear jsuaja
Thanks for taking the time to review and your kind comments regarding your room, Jan and surrounds. In addressing your comments regarding your off-roading adventure, we wanted to let you know that Fraser Island has had the driest summer in several decades, but recent rainfall from last week has smoothed out the tracks somewhat. We noted a second review about the buffet prices, which we have replied to, and want to reiterate here that the pricing for adults is $43, but children are charged $20. Guests also have the option of an ala carte menu, take away pizzas or can self cater in our villa accommodation.

We wish you the best of luck with the rest of your Australian adventure.

3 1/2 - 4 Star 6 1/2 / 10 (more like 5 if not for convenience)

Common areas and grounds are quite attractive , though in need of maintenance. Pools and restaurants are crowded. The restaurant offers standard breakfasts and a good dinner buffet if you like seafood. The picnic lunch they did for us was excellent both in quality and variety of food and in the quantity.

Rooms are in a 90's neuvo- Japanese style. Beds are more bouncy than supportive. Bath with hand held shower head attachment and 70's shower curtain.

Understaffed, with predominantly arrogant and unpleasant staff (to the point of being rude). We only found one helpful staff member and that was at checkout. Never more than one staff member on the reception desk no matter how busy or long the lines are (such as when ferries arrive).

Now you will not be told about the "PreCheck in" at the ferry office on the mainland(Even if you pre-book ferry tickets). When you go to collect your ferry ticket they will not hand them over unless you check into your accomidation and put a hold on your credit card. You aren't even on the island yet ? But if you question this procedure not in the booking or and confirmations they will instantly become hostile. If you mention it to the people on reception as the hotel they will too.

Room Tip: Now you will not be told about the "PreCheck in" at the ferry office on the mainland(Even...

I chose this place on recommendation of my sister and it turned out to be one of the best experiences I have had. The resort is in the middle of the wilderness, so as a European, I expected Fraser Island to be full of dangerous and annoying creatures. But in fact, not one mosquito entered my room, and I only encountered beautiful birds and some dingoes on the tours where 4wd buses show you around the island. (very good value for money)
This island is amazingly and the hotel is just the perfect place to discover it. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room & accommodations always clean. Food is real quality and I would recommend you try the Seabelle fine dining at least once: quite expensive but they mix fine meat and local plants into unforgettable dishes. Maheno restaurant has cheap yet interesting menus.
Accessing the island takes time, but it is definitely worth it!

Hi Math B
Always great to have see our European neighbours out off-roading on Fraser's sand tracks and we thank you for your wonderful comments regarding your stay with us. Call us biased, but Fraser's a pretty special spot and it's great to read you got to see some of our most famous residents whilst out exploring with our touring team.

Just returned from 3 relaxing days at this resort. Great service, comfortable villa with view, good food, excellent amenities. Only problem was that two of the eateries were closed, one for renovations. So there were no lower priced places to eat. The service and food in the Maheno was very good, with a wide variety of choices. All staff were friendly and helpful. Our unit was clean and well furnished and when the dishwasher would not start, maintenance were speedy with their assistance. Would recommend Kingfisher Bay highly.

Room Tip: For 2 couples villas are excellent

Dear Lesleyh7
Thanks for taking the time to review us in this forum and for your candid comments. As you may have seen our Sand Bar bistro was closed whilst we made some enhancements to the existing kitchen and equipment - this will reopen in time for Easter. To compensate for this, we introduced an all-day snack menu and ala carte lunch and dinner menu at The Maheno, which followed a similar pricing structure.

We're glad to read our friendly maintenance team were able to fix the hiccup with your dishwater and we hope we'll see you back on beautiful Fraser Island in the not-too-distant future.

For 14 years we have been getting a group of friends together for an annual cricket match. For the last 2 years Kingfisher has made an already great weekend very special. From the sunset boat trip through the calm Sandy Straits, welcome spa to tend to tired muscles, post match buffet (seafood!!) function by that wonderful pool and even waking up, after a lot of laughs and a few drinks, to the unique Fraser Island bird calls. Our tribe of kids of all ages had plenty to do and a lot of families took the opportunity to use Kingfisher as a base to tour the island. Nothing has been too much trouble for the resort staff. We have gone from hopping around different venues, by unanimous vote of our group, to making Kingfisher our permanent home each year. Looking forward to 2014. David

I have not long returned from a 2day/1 night cool dingo tour where we stayed in the lodges. The resort itself was clean and the staff at the time friendly! The upsetting part of the tour was when we got back to Hervey Bay to find at least 3 of us had had our bags searched and all of the cash which had been locked in mine stolen! Our bags were supposed to have been in a secure store all day which I presumed would be safer than on the bus which we hopped on and off!
I was given a small amount of compensation by the hotel but it was less than half of what I had had stolen and so it ended up being a very expensive weekend, and I didn't really feel that staff were very sympathetic as to what had happened.
I would recommend the tour but keep your valuables on your person as it's not safe to lock them in your bag and put them in a secure store!!!!

Hi CMcgUK
We respect your right to post in this forum and want to let you know that we take allegations like these very seriously.

When this incident was reported to us, we followed our resort procedure and have been open and transparent in encouraging you to make a full police report and with the ensuing investigation. Whilst the matter is with the local police, their efforts have been hampered as you have been unable to tell us exactly how much money you believe is missing. However, we sincerely apologise that the service you received from our team, in trying to help you resolve this, did not meet expectations.

We have responded to a similar review you wrote on our Cool Dingo page (where you were complimentary about your touring experience with Jess); and also to comments one of your travelling companions made about us in this forum. It was distressing to read in your friend's review that she believed her bag had been searched as this hadn't reported to us. It is equally as distressing to read your comments and see that this number has now risen to three people - none of which have been reported and all of whom we encourage to contact us with more details.

Again, we would encourage all guests travelling anywhere with valuables or large sums of cash to make use of safes at your accommodation houses. On Fraser, ours are free-of-charge and are located at reception.
