Our stay at Daydream was an excellent experience. It is most certainly "a must" on anyone's destination list. The various activity options throughout day and night, manicured facilities was pleasing to notice. The island teamed with well versed and accomodating service personnel and I found it to be in my sincere opinion Daydream's most valued asset. Thank you for having us:)

20 years ago I visited South Mole Island and had a great time so I decide to take the new bride of twelve months to Day dream Island for our first anniversary two weeke ago. After reading some of the reviews I wasn't sure if I had done the right thing.
To my disapointment the reviews were correct, I was warned about checking your bill on departure. Well while waiting at the reception for our room key a Lady was having a full on discussion about charges at the restaurant that she didn't have. I couldn't believe it, we had the same experience when we departed.
We had an Ocean View room with a view that you could never get tired of, and it was large and very comfortable.Cleaned every day and the staff were very good. The only down side was the cost and lack of choice for meals lunch & dinner during our stay.
My wife doesn't eat much meat and on arrivel the only option for dinner was a carvery @$48.00 each or the BBQ @ 25.00 each not much choice for her.
I told her how beautiful the reef is and after booking a day trip @$225.00 each that took the sting out of it and so much for the smoko and lunch supplied.
The staff were wonderful as many of them are backpackers on short term visas.
I could go on but I don't want to sound like a winger, no wonder so many people travel over seas to the Asian countries for their value for money. Much better service, choice and heaps cheaper.
I would recommend Koh Samui for a holiday any time compared to Day dream Island.
Our Islands are beautiful but they spoil it but ripping you off once you get there.

Room Tip: Lower Coral Sea view rooms have lawn out side and kangaroos feeding every day.

We stayed here as a family on a 6 night special we saw in the newspaper. The resort is beautiful, with excellent facilities, and very well looked after grounds. The living reef is spectacular, and the boys spent hours just watching the fish and sharks. One of the best things we did here was 'nothing'. We needed to get away as a family, but didn't want to be on the go and sight seeing and doing activities all day every day, and here, we spent hours by the pool just lazing the day away. It never got boring, and the kids really enjoyed spending time together swimming. There were plenty of activities to do, we just chose not to do them. The rooms are basic, and the beds are past their use by date, but we were hardly in the room, and the beds didn't stop us having a decent nights sleep. On the last night, there were people upstairs to us, and we could hear them walking around and muffled talking, but this didn't really intrude on our sleep either... The food is expensive, regardless of which dining option you choose, but it was really good food, so we didn't mind the cost so much. We would've had an issue with the cost if it wasn't great food, but you can't go hungry here, there's plenty to eat. The staff are fantastic, we didn't encounter anyone that didn't appear to enjoy their job, or object to dealing with us, they were all friendly and approachable. The resort is a nice mixture of families, couples and oldies, so we were never in a situation where we felt the kids weren't welcome, and it's large enough to be able to spread out and find your own place by the pool. Quite often we went to the south end of the island, as it's quieter down there, and there's a great bakery!! Another great feature is the massive outdoor movie screen which shows movies at 7.30pm. There's popcorn available, and we really enjoyed these nights. One thing we noticed is the swarms of mosquitoes, not only outside, but in the rooms as well. We went to lengths to constantly shut doors and swat them, but they kept coming. We were unable to purchase insect spray from any of the shops, or obtain any from reception, which was a bit strange seeing they were so bad... They have aeroguard, but no mortein or similar. Our advice would be to pack your own, just in case, as we are all covered in bites. However, the daily mosquito hunts in the room provided fun for everyone!! Also, don't bother packing beach towels. The resort provide towels for the pool and beach, and swap them over as often as you like. We packed our own, and never used them. Overall, we rate the island really highly, and would have no problems recommending it as a holiday destination to anyone. They do everything really well, and we loved our stay. Six days felt like 2 weeks, and we didn't want to leave, but when we did, we were totally relaxed.

Came here in 1969 for our honeymoon so the return was for old times sake. Resort has definitely changed a lot which of course I expected.
Nice surprise on arrival was provided with Champange and chocolates and a little note to welcome us for our aniversary.
Here are the facts as I see it.
Island is now definitely a family based Island with lots to entertain the kids.
There are two sections to the island north and south. The main restaurant and activities are around Mermaid beach with lots of swiming pools with different depths for swimming in and a living reef.
The other end about 10 minutes walk away where we spent most of our time (less kids) has one large pool a drinks bar a bakery for lunch a shop and putt putt golf. It also is the place where they have a large outdoor screen for showing movies at night and a bistro restuarant (called Fish bowl) that is open some nights an activity sheet is provided each week to tell you which restuarants are open and what activities are available
There is a shuttle from the main whalf that goes back and foward from 10:00am to 2:00pm and at night for the cinema. This should be extended in the afternoon to say 3:30pm as going back in the hottest part of the day is an effort.
Between October and May they recomend wearing Stinger suits due to the stingers that may be in the water this time of year. We wore them (cost $10:00 for 24hrs) at Lovers cove which is a lovely spot if you like snorkeling as there is a very nice coral reef with lots of fish just off the coral beach.
There is also a so called Rainforest walk, I would call it a bush walk with views from the top of the island. It is not a paved walk and has many last natuaral steps and rocks.definately not for kids.
The waterfall restuarant is the only place for beakfast.Beakfast is normally included in the packages and there is lots to eat including fruit, serials and the normal hot food eggs bacon etc. The nice part for us here was they had an adults only area overlooking the Waterfall.
The owners have done a great job here a couple of suggestions I made when leaving were.
Buggy hours to be extended. the coffee been snack bar be open a little longer than 1:00pm as there is no where to get sandwiches after 1:00pm at the main area only at the Boat house bakery down the other end of the Island. Book exchange would be handy near reception.
All in all we had a relaxing 7 days so would recomend to others definately if you have a small family.

Room Tip: We stayed in a balcony room which had beautiful sunrises

Hey all,

I was put off from the bad reviews we read.. But I'm glad we still came! You can't trust everything you read on the internet.

First of all we only payed $400 for 3 nights, 4 days through my layby so I'm not too sure what the normal room price is but we had a garden view balcony with a king bed and had the view of water, South Molle island and where the ferry came in.. It was amazing! We even had cockatoos come up to us on the balcony. The room was extremely clean, sure maybe in the shower there was a bit of rust around the shower head but it didn't set us back.. Loved the room! Plus having aircon paid off :)

The weather forecast was suppose to be thunderstorms the entire trip however it rained once the whole time, it was a bit cloudy for the first day but the rest was all hot and sunny.. Got sunburnt very easily. We decided not to do any of the paid activities on the island besides putt putt and bingo and it was worth it! So much fun. Lovers cove is beautiful at night with the fire tiki torches and for snorkelling it really is amazing.. We were thinking about taking the $25 glass bottom boat and fishing feeding however we are glad we didn't because they only went around to lovers cove and I think that's a bit of a rip off when you can buy fish food (which isn't advertised) from the beach hut for $5 for a big container. We also watched the outdoor movie and that was good but stock up on aero guard!

Now for the food, the island rotates between two food options each night which doesn't give much variety.. I would not go for the seafood buffet or any food option in the Waterfalls restaurant besides breakfast, as it is overpriced and their food is not that good.. They wanted $50pp for a Aussie style buffet??? What were they serving?? Gourmet vegemite??
For breakfast we had the buffet breakfast included for free, For lunch we got $7 chips from mermaids restaurant and for dinner we tried mermaids then fishbowl.. I prefer the meat from the fishbowl.. Cheaper and you get a full plate. Also don't think drinks are cheap, $10 for a beer.. And $16 for a cocktail.. However we tried one cocktail and it was amazing!!

Overall, the trip was amazing, the only downside was the price of food.. The resort is kid friendly but still a amazing place for couples. The wildlife is friendly and you can pet the kangaroos/wallabies. Staff are extremely friendly always saying 'morning how are you' etc :)

We will be returning :) but we will bring some of our own food to save costs.

We stayed for the most relaxing few nights we have had in a long time. The food was amazing, the facilities endless and the service impeccable.
Every need was catered for and we are already planning on family stay there early next year.

Room Tip: The ocean view room is amazing but not entirely necessary as you don't spend much time in your r...
