Daydream Island Resort & Spa
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Daydream Island
Reviewed 1 January 2014

We had long had the impression that daydream island was an affordable resort holiday for families as nonmotorised activities were free, this was confirmed by our travel agent and stated such on our itenirary, NOT SO, you have to hire canoes, snorkel gear as well as mini golf etc etc, the only thing free is the rainforest walk to other side of the island, use of the pools , tho the floaty rings u have to hire, and the outdoor cinema if you can manage to get a seat, we didn't go to this as too late for our little ones, and lastly watching the fish feeding is free, so not much. even the bingo is $10, after playing on two nights my husband won and the prize was a voucher for pool floaty ring hire valued at yep$10, so a bit cheap. living reef is great and this gave our children a lot of joy and entertainment looking at the fish, rays etc. we arrived Xmas eve and told on arrival christmas seafood buffet already booked out for Xmas lunch and dinner and had to have mermaids Xmas set menu for both lunch and dinner at close to $300 for 2 adults and 2 preschoolers for each meal, not happy that we didn't have any real choice. Our accom package inc buffet breakfast daily, despite this and doing very little activities as our kids too small, we spent the same again that our acom package cost. our Christmas Day ended up not too great due to misinformation about dining options initially and staff seeming unhappy to be working, and hard to get service at bars etc, got better after that thou and in all a relaxing holiday. Surprised there is no room service for meals and takeaway not always available, seemed never available when we asked... Took the kids to play mini golf, shops on that side closed and nowhere to get a cold drink, not much shade. TIP refill water bottles in departure lounge as there is cooler water dispenser in there.

Room Tip: We were near atrium so good for closeness to breakfast buffet etc, a little bit of. Lise from music...

Our whole family- 2 adults and 3 children rated our 6 nights on daydream one of our best ever holidays. Staff were great and friendly, nice meals and there was plenty to do for adults and children. Living reef is just wonderful to watch any time and kids had a morning as reef rangers with Damien, which was a highlight of the trip. swimming pools are great, water sports fun and many extra activities such as jet skis, helicopter rides and mini golf. We stayed in coral view rooms on ground floor which was perfect as had beautiful views and also kids were able to run about on grass out front and down to beach. I was concerned that 6 nights may be too long, but we all wanted to stay longer. I could not fault Daydream for our family holiday, and we will definitely be back again. thankyou to all the staff there that made our stay a pleasure.

Room Tip: Coral view room ground floor was perfect for our family. Great views

This is great for a day trip or for a short 2-3 day stay.

Nice relaxing pools, great food, cheap cocktails during happy hour...the only down side is that if you stay longer you might get bored as there isn't a lot to do other then relax.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a few days on the Great Barrier Reef. It was the highlight of our 3 week trip to Oz and New Zealand. We packed in loads while we were there, booking parasailing trips, a sunset kayak trip to hand feed the fish in Lover's Cove, a hands-on wray-feeding tour by the resident Marine Biologist who talked to us about all of the different fishes and wrays on the island's man-made reef, a helecopter-cruise day trip over the Heart Reef (we did this instead of the Syndey Harbour Bridge walk - absolutely not disappointed!) - and the customer service was perfect.

For the nature-lover this island is amazing - it's reef lets you get up close to some amazing creatures, there are resident fruit bats in the rainforest which fly out at dusk and drink nectar from flowers in the trees, there are resident wallabies, kangaroos, cockatoos and stone curlews and more.

Also, quite simply the BEST breakfast buffet that there will ever be. Ever. A full range of cooked breakfast components (bacon, eggs, hashbrowns etc), a pancake machine with every syrup/sauce you can think of, cereals, fresh exotic fruits and half a dozen fruit compotes (lovely on the pancakes) and all kinds of breads (and it's included in the price so dig in!).

The food and drinks were pricey, but then it's an island on the Barrier Reef - we were expecting it to be and had budgetted accordingly. On the plus side, it was great quality (the steak in the Fishbowl restaurant was awesome).

We enjoyed time in the pool and the crazy golf course, had some great meals, nice drinks and watched two movies at the open air cinema under the stars with a cocktail - just a perfect few days. We were sorry not to have stayed longer!

Ferry trip over from Hamilton was great, friendly, efficient and on time. Staff at Daydream made the difference, they were ALL great. From a simple 'hello', to going beyond expectations. The children were well catered for by the staff and facilities. We had portraits done by Kerry of Island Photos. Kerry made it easy, fun and enjoyable. They are the best family photos we have ever had. Mark was great on the jetski tour, very patient and considerate of the young, inexperienced family he had on tour with him. Special mention for Janita who took our children on the Living Reef Rangers tour. It is so worth the money - they learnt all about the reef and got to touch, hold, feed various reef creatures and find out that the reef and its inhabitants are wonderful and not-so-scary. There are more than enough activities on the Island to engage the whole family. Snorkelling was lovely for the family in the sheltered Lover's Cove. Go at low tide.

Firstly, Cruise Whitsunday's who ferried us to our dream lunch in style, were very friendly welcoming and professional.

On arrival at the restaurant, the table and waiter / waitress staff at Daydream Island were simply wonderful - great sense of humour and a genuine credit to the company.

The food 11 out of 10 - stunning array of choice - superb, so fresh, so tasty! The only criticism, the oyster shucker needed an assistant. Still it was a nice touch and a great example of the freshness and presentation of the seafood. The management and other staff throughout the resort were very friendly and welcoming. Yes we will be back and absolutely recommend a Christmas lunch at Daydream!

Food was way over priced , terrible sewage smells early in the morning and had to ask for gym to be opened up numerous times.
But the swimming was excellent at Lovers Cove and the nature was fantastic.

Room Tip: Higher rooms may not encounter small sand noise.
