We travelled to Daydream Island at the start of December and stayed for 4 nights. I got a fantastic deal $699. We were greeted by a lovely lady, given a shell necklace and a complimentary drink. Check in was quick and easy and our luggage was all taken care of and promptly delivered to our room.

We had a garden view balcony room which was extremely roomy and clean. We felt comfortable letting our 10 month old crawl around and explore. The bath was probably the only part of the room that was showing it's age, but it was still all clean and functioning.

We had the pizza and pasta buffet the first night, which was the worst food that we had and we thought over priced. In saying that however, they still catered for me needed gluten free pizza and pasta and were extremely helpful. Lesson learnt we only ate at the buffet for breakfast for the rest of our stay.

The food at the other restaurants was delicious and the service was always prompt and friendly. We also found that they do picnic baskets for lunch and dinner that you can get delivered to your room. They worked out to be cheaper than the restaurants and handy after a bit day at Whitehaven beach.

We took advantage of the free portrait sitting and purchased some beautiful family photos.

Mini golf was a bit of fun and we also went out on the glass bottom boat which was great. The pool areas were lovely and there were enough different locations that none were too busy and we could chill out with our little one.

Yes some of the features are a bit outdated, but I found everything (bar the odd highchair or two) to be clean and it good order. Everyone was friendly and eager to make our holiday enjoyable, so to us that counts for a lot.

We spent four nights/five days in a Garden Balcony Room.
I was unsure how to rate our experience on Daydream Island Resort, so selected average overall.
The personal greeting from staff, escorted bags to our room and an easy check-in process was wonderful for us as we haven’t experienced a resort atmosphere before.
Overall based on our personal experience, we believe that Daydream Island and Resort is unfortunately slightly overrated and overpriced (even though you need to appreciate that it is a remote island so everything is brought across via ferry leading to higher costs).
As we travelled in low-season we believe four nights/five days is too long. Only selected dining options and activities are available during low season and there is no option (obviously) for self catering.
The resort and room itself is comfortable, however our room had a musty smell (can only assume due to the a/c being on 24/7).
The bathroom needed a really good scrub. Bed was very comfortable, but on a Friday/Saturday night it can get rowdy in the corridors due to Weddings- but I don’t see this as the resorts fault.
The water sports weren’t operational on some days.
However in stating all of the above, there were positives that would entice us to return for one or two nights.
We enjoyed lounging in the pool (although they were completing renovations at the time so areas were restricted) with a swim up bar. (This can get expensive with the yummy frozen daiquiris on offer!)
I was fortunate enough to experience the Day Spa with an hour massage which was truly bliss.
The buffet breakfast we would describe as plentiful and scrumptious- bound to cater for all ages. We tried to experience all dining options on offer; bakery (very expensive for lunch), the pool side BBQ which was divine, Fish Bowl which was reasonably priced for the decent fresh servings of food, Mermaids (more expensive, however delicious food) and one of the best buffet dinners (at Waterfalls) that we have ever experienced.
If you want some time to yourself, make sure you head down to Lover’s Cove for some relaxation- very peaceful.
A big thank-you to Management and Team for the wonderful personalized card, wine and chocolates upon arrival (celebrating a special occasion).

My husband & I stayed at Daydream Island for 6nights.
We enjoyed the ferry ride on the way to the resort plus our complimentary free drinks as we enjoyed the beautiful views. We were greeted with a friendly welcome, a necklace and a free photo. We were impressed !!! (We also got another free photo during the week). We loved everything about the resort. It was beautiful with so much to do!! There are free things to do as well as activities you can pay for. We loved our room located on the bottom floor. We'd wake up in the morning to find kangaroos eating outside our room.
We had the buffet breakfast included in our holiday package deal which was lovely. The meal prices are reasonable for a resort. We mostly ate at the boat house as it was cheaper and also at fishbowl - the meals are quite big .
We wanted to unwind, relax as well as have fun and this was all achieved at daydream island resort. I would definitely go back and have recommended this place to friends & family.

We have travelled all over the world and have stayed in a lot of different resorts and hotels. This is unfortunately the worst place we have ever stayed. On arrival all seemed good, then we went to our room to find a tv from the 80's around about a 30 cm tv, bad picture quality as well. Booked a movie one arvo cause it was raining ($15:95)and it was playing in slow play. Called reception to get it fixed and they said someone would come and fix it. 30 mins later and still nothing called reception again no answer so I went there myself to see what was going on. They basically told me to go back to my room and they would call me. Eventually someone came to change the tv with a new one from today's era ( the technician was great) but now we can't watch movies for some reason.
Food on the island isn't great very very over priced and bland, it doesn't take much to add flavour to something ( herbs ,spices and sauces) best dinner we had was at the fish bowl but it wasn't cheap. Tried to get lunch twice at the bakery first time line was too long so we came back and lined up for 45 mins to find there was hardly any food to eat and nothing with chicken for our daughter. Who only eats chicken they made her a cheese and salad sandwich with terrible cheese and we had to have meat pies. Don't even get me started on the alcohol ( corona $9:50) really
We wanted to have a romantic night out on a nice island but have decided to wait till we get off this island.
The staff don't care, don't think they want to be here either. To do anything fun will cost you a lot of money. To do anything free most things are booked out constantly because the just don't have enough equipment. Won't ever come back again and definitely won't recommend it to any of my friends. It needs a lot of changes to get it up to scratch of the apparent 4 stars its supposed to have. I'm sure a management response will state that many others have enjoyed there experience here but perhaps listening to your guest will improve things. For example make sandwiches, pies and simple food available at All outlets rather than just one which may help with long queues of screaming kids waiting for food especially when it's not even that busy. Maybe more staff training
And better work flow systems would help these issues.

As soon as we arrived, we felt so welcomed, not only by the photographer but by the hostess who ushered us into a welcome room to sit & have a complimentary drink. The rooms were clean, tidy & spacious. We enjoyed the food, the scenery & the activities on offer. The snorkelling was wonderful & my daughter loved the pool. The whole experience was great. We want to go back.

Expensive, everything on the island in engineered to get as much money out of you as possible.
Overall it is clean.
There is a lot of thing to do.
But the Island is not friendly.
Staff will not go out of there way to
help you.
Some staff are great, but a lot are not very helpful or friendly.

Pool bar closes at five pm.
Does not cater well for children.

Restaurants if you want a drink you have to line up in the food ordering line.
The food is good but overpriced.

Would not recommend to anybody.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Daydream Island Resort and Spa.

It is disappointing to read your review of Daydream, but we feel it has not provided us with a clear opinion or constructive feedback to act upon. By this we refer to your contradictions, “staff will not go out of there way” yet you also state “some staff are great”; you state “does not cater well to children” yet you also indicate “there are lots of things to do”

Daydream is always looking for ways to improve the experience for our guests. If you could please provide further information to assist us in it would be greatly appreciated, the email address to provide your feedback is - gsm@daydreamisland.com

Kind regards

We stayed on Daydream Island from 22nd - 27th December and it was just the right amount of time for our family of four. We spent approximately $250.00 per day (not including the Christmas buffet) and feel that it was worth it. It was wonderful to be able to relax and still participate in lots of activities. We hired stinger suits and went snorkeling one day (suits are recommended during the stinger season and we thought it best not to take the chance), my husband and children went for a short helicopter ride, we swam in the pools twice daily (at least), played mini golf, fed the fish at lovers cove ($2 for a small tub of fish food - well worth it) and went kayaking and saw turtles (free).
We took our own masks and snorkels as we already had them which saved us money although there is an option for a family of four to get mask, snorkel, stingers and mini golf for a day. On Christmas day the mini golf was free so that was an added bonus.
Some reports indicate that the resort is expensive however I believe it was value for money. One night we had dinner at mermaids and you could get a 3 course meal for under $60 per person which is excellent value and was top quality. The buffet is always plentiful and we did the buffet for Christmas lunch which well and truly filled us and never ran out of any of the seafood promised.
Recommendations:
Take your own snacks to save money and fill up your bottled water rather than buying it.
If you want to go snorkeling ask the staff about the best times as there is better viewing at low tide.
If going at Christmas time you need to book and pay for Christmas meals ahead of time.
Get the activity package for snorkeling and mini golf.
If you are interested in going for a helicopter ride talk to the activities desk as they are able to organise flights that aren't usually scheduled if they have enough interest.

Overall experience.
We loved it and would highly recommend it. I guess you need to realise that it is an island and there are only a couple of dining places but they are good value. Our kids would happily watch the living reef for hours if we let them. The rooms were spacious and cleaned to a high standard and the staff were incredibly friendly where ever we went. A real joy.

Room Tip: We had a Garden view room that was on the ground floor in the rainforest section which was great as...
