“It's a good family resort, a bit dated though.”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

We really like this place. Stayed there 3 times in the last few years but we've been unlucky as the weather has been poor every time. Last week we didn't have as much rain as the previous 2 times but it was windy so we couldn't do the water sports we had planned.

Our daughter who is 4 did the fish feeding though and absolutely loved it. The living reef they have and the marine biologists are fantastic for kids. The mini gold course is also spectacular theme wise, but it's looking dated and need an upgrade.

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms are great but cost a fair bit more. If you're going to be out and about enj...

If you are after a relaxed family resort, this one is perfect. Small enough to walk around easily. Stunning views to surrounding islands in the Whitsunday passage.
We enjoyed the sailing lesson across to Long Island.
Dine at a la carte restaurant rather than smorgasbord option, where food was in the case of some of the fruit at breakfast, rotten.
The pool is stunning with the swim up bar.
Snorkelling at lovers cove is a highlight.

It's the perfect spot for families to visit. Lots of activities to keep the kids busy. It's also pretty good for couples. I did enjoy my time there, but not enough to go back any time too soon, I might try other accommodation in the Whitsundays next time. The food is very good, the main restaurant is a bit expensive, but the food IS delicious! I would recommend Daydream to others, but mainly to families.

I always try and be positive when writing a review, but this time it was a little hard. We stayed at Daydream with our 3 year old daughter for a week. She absolutely loved the all of the wallabies and fish that were always around to watch and quite frankly was the best thing about the resort.

I knew already that the resort wasn't all shiny and new when booking and that was fine with us, however the poor condition of the resort and it's lack of facilities really disappointed us. The most disappointing was the food, it was far from fresh and hardly anything was open. Breakfast was ok, with a fair amount of options, but the 'hot' food was never hot and the first morning the tinned apricots were rancid. I told a waiter and whilst he apologised, the apricots weren't removed from service! The pancake machine was ridiculous, it was slow and always empty or broken. There should have just had them either made fresh by a chef or made in batches at a time like most buffets have.

The only option for lunch was the Bakery (which by the way doesn't sell bread) or the expensive Mermaids restaurant. The sandwiches are fine at the Bakery but all pre-made. I'm 6months pregnant and shouldn't be eating pre-made things, but this won't be an issue for most people.

The food at Mermaids was nice but definitely over-priced, Jean and Rebecca were very friendly and happy to help, the rest of the staff were average. As this was the only edible option for dinner on 5 out of our 8 night stay, the menu needs to vary or offer a special that changes every couple of nights. It's also takes a while, which could be a problem for others with kids who don't sit for a long time (1.5hrs) in a restaurant, luckily our daughter was great and very patient. The kids meals were good, particularly the fish.

The other option was Splashes BBQ and this was a disgrace. We are at all not fussy and like the idea of a BBQ by the pool but the burgers are reheated pre-cooked meat patties with bread rolls so stale that they crumbled. The salads were ok and the sausages the cheapest quality you could buy, but paying $65 for two adults and a toddler was a joke. The chef told me that he'd cook a 'fresh' burger for me then proceeded to get a cold pre-cooked one out of the tray and put it on the BBQ! Also, there were only three tables to sit at for everyone who wanted the BBQ and we had to sit in semi darkness around the base of an umbrella with our daughter trying to eat. There was another section full of tables but we were told we couldn't sit there because it's for smokers, but it didn't have lights so I guess it didn't matter anyway!

The other side of the island was like a ghost town with none of the eateries/bars open at all (just the Bakery). The only reason we went around to that side was to use the playground or do the rainforest walk. The mini golf was sad and expensive for what you got. We did play bingo in the lounge and that was fun and something to interact with other guests and they offered prizes to use for island actives which was good.

The living reef was great entertainment for our daughter, but in reality looked a bit sad. The only free activity is the fish feeding and it's informative but not much action for little kids as it's mostly talking and not so much interaction with the kids.. Lovers cove is a wonderful spot and the snorkelling is good if you go at the right tide time. The activities desk was helpful with the right time to snorkel.

We'd booked to stay 8 nights but decided to leave early and go an stay at Hamilton Island for the last night because we were sick of all of the little things that weren't done/open and especially the lack of fresh food and choice of places to eat. We even went on a day trip to Arlie Beach to get supplies for lunch it was that bad. When we advised reception that we wanted to leave and why, reception said that the manager would call us but as expected we're still waiting on the phone call a week later!

Luckily we had decided to leave the next day, as that night we had to eat at the Waterfalls Carvery buffet (Mermaids was closed and we couldn't face the BBQ) and I got bad food poisoning. I was very sick and then had to catch the ferry back to Hamilton Island and seek medical attention to stop being sick. There was no question that it came from the buffet as there was nothing else to eat! When my husband alerted the staff at breakfast the next morning, the girl said that the Food & Beverage Manager would call us before we left. There was no apology or offer to refund the dinner and we still haven't heard from them a week later. You'd think a pregnant woman getting food poisoning would be worth a courtesy email or phone call!

We did have a great time on our family holiday but it's due to the company and the location not the rundown, sad resort. It's simply not worth it and I don't like wasting our hard earned money on something that isn't up to a basic standard. We will never return to Daydream Island and we feel sorry for the staff who have to work there and constantly be asked the same questions by disappointed guests over and over again. The "do the bare minimum" attitude clearly comes from upper management and the owner and this is simply unacceptable when they expect guests to pay over $3000 a week, only including a below average breakfast and very little free activities.

Room Tip: Coral sea view ground floor have the nicest outlook, with wallabies on the grass and the sea right o...

We had our wedding on daydream island in 2013. It really was beautiful and the staff was amazing in helping us on the day and in the planning process.
Me and my husband is living in Norway and had to plan the wedding using only email. That really was not a problem at all, the wedding coordinators were really good!
Having your wedding on daydream island is not the cheapest thing you will do. But it is worth it because it is so amazing. All our friends and family stayed with us at the resort for the whole weekend and we had a great time, they reserved tables for us for dinner the first night and for breakfast every day.
Caitlin our wedding coordinator was amazing as well, my made of honor kept asking her where she was when she got married. She made the day so easy and smooth.
We had the ceremony in the wedding chapel and it was beautiful! the only negative thing was that they should have put the air condition on earlier in the day cause it was boiling in there!!
After the ceremony we had some time to take photos, we had a private photographer, one of the guests. After photos we had the reception at lovers cove. the food was excellent and service was great. The decorations was also beautiful and we had a great night.

Having the wedding on the island was also great because the island has so many activities to offer so all the kids in the family had a blast!
I also had me, my made of honor, my mother and mother in law booked to get hair and makeup at the spa. It was a great setup with free champagne on the balcony and we could order food up there also. The girls doing the hair and makeup was really good.

Room Tip: We had a ocean balcony room. It was really good, no problems. Some of our friends had a garden balco...

This place is amazing! The fact that there were stingrays right outside my hotel window was awsome! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Could sign up for a multitude of activities, had a movie night, pools were great, and the rooms were very clean.

We were a little apprehensive before arriving here after reading some previous reviews. We came here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The staff were very friendly. Rooms were nice and clean. We loved the peace and quiet on this island. There is a little village on the other side of the resort. Everything was walking distance away. We could walk by the coast or via the rainforest from the resort to the village.

We were amazed that they took the trouble to bring in house the outdoor cinema when the weather was cold and windy one night. We watched two great movies over three nights.
The lounge area is so relaxing in the evenings. We were entertained by The Bali band every night with old favourites.

This is definitely a great place to visit if you are celebrating a special occassion. We will always remember our time spent on this little paradise.

Room Tip: All rooms are great. We stayed in Garden room and is close to restaurant, lounge and stairways to po...
