Tonight was our first night on Hamilton Island & after a really long day, being awake since 4.30am we chose our closest option which was Sails Restaurant. Great choice! Greeted by a fabulous front-of-house staff member, we were shown to an outside table near the floodlit pool. Lighting was a bit dim but we were still happy with our table.

We were advised that it was counter service, rather than table service, which I had mixed feelings about. On the plus side, that means you place your food & drinks orders when you are ready & as often as you want to, not needing to rely on possibly over-worked and busy or maybe inefficient staff. On the minus side, as my husband pointed out, leaving a date behind on their own to place orders several times during the evening is not a good thing.

Our oysters natural & Kilpatrick entrees were lovely & fresh and our mains of eye fillet, served a teensy bit on the rare side of the requested medium, which was upgraded with garlic prawns and Thai Yellow Curry with tiger prawns, Moreton bay bugs and fish with rice were great!!

But still no Victorian beer available!!! A huge proportion of Hamilton Island visitors are from Victoria but there is no Crown lager, Carlton Draught or VB to be found on the island!!

We came here for both lunch and dinner. Set on the beach, the view is stunning, especially during the day. The menu is varied, the food is of high quality and reasonably priced. The service was excellent. Highly recommended.

Much better places and better value to be found elsewhere on the island. Menu was ok, but the meals were not of great note.

I recently stayed on Hamilton Island for 8 days punctuated by two days in Airlie Beach, my meal venues on Hamilton were shared, although I did return to Sails restaurant both for lunch and/or dinner as I found the quality of the food, staff and views to be of the highest quality. The meals were very consistent in their quality, and some, large enough for two, especially the "Chicken Parma" …my favourite, although the ribs went close, as the meat fell off the bones.
Clinton, at the front of house runs a well drilled team of waiting staff, all eager to help with any enquiries or requests…..the views from the decking out front, are just…..stunning, the coral sea and surrounding islands are just amazing, I wonder what Captain Cook would say if he could see Catseye beach now,and not some 240 years ago. One downside was the fact you are taken to your table only to find out you then have to leave the dining area to go to the bar to obtain a drink, returning, to find you then have to go to the register to place an order for food…mmmmm, not sure about that.

We have been to Hamilton Island twice in the last year and Sails is by far our fav place to eat and hang out. So much so we had a casual celebration lunch here for our wedding.

The range of food and quality is impressive and the service has only ever been a positive experience with the staff always attentive and friendly.

The location is great being on Catseye beach and part of the Resort Centre so therefore close to several swimming pools, shops, kids activities and booking desk.

I think this will always be our place to eat when visiting again.

PS thanks for a fabulous wedding reception, we couldn't have asked for anything better :)
