My wife and I (we are both in our early 60's) have travelled to a number of countries and to Australia from New Zealand 10 times for holidays. Reading the reviews of the Beach Club prior to our departure I wondered if we had made a good choice because there were a number of negative reviews.

We arrived on Hamilton Island for a seven night stay at the Beach Club with no great expectations - how wrong we were. There were Beach Club staff at the entrance to the airport to greet us and we were extremely well looked after until we departed from the airport to travel home. In summary:

1. We never saw our bags until the arrived in our room and when we left the bags were collected from our room and taken directly to the airport.

2. We were greeted by one of the Beach Club staff (they are mostly in their 20's) and driven by beach buggy to their lounge. We were given a cocktail and pamplets about Hamilton Island as well as a brief introduction before being shown to our room.

3. Our room was on the ground floor (which I think is preferable) and although the furniture wasn't new it was comfortable. There was a masssive king sized bed which we decided was the most comfortable bed that we have ever slept in.

4. The television has information about Hamilton Island, where to go and what to do and it was a bonus taking our own CD's to play on their equipment.

5. The bathroom was larger than expected with an excellent shower and a bath which was used twice during our stay.

6. We found it very quiet staying there - except for those Australian birds that make a noise first thing every morning!

7. One of the attractions to us at the Beach Club was the fact that there were no children allowed. We are not against childern (we have both been school teachers during our working life) but it was wonderful to be able to use the swimming pool which was warm by our standards without someone doing a 'honey-pot' beside us!

8. Without exception we found the staff to be excellent - well trained, polite and obviously enjoying their job. The Manager was very friendly and welcoming and invited all the guests to complimentary drinks and nibbles from 5 - 6p.m. on the Tuesday night which is a tradition there.

9. We used the free pick up and drop off service on a regular basis. After a night at a restaurant the waiter would phone the Club and the golf golf buggy would arrive within minutes.

10. Breakfasts were included in the cost and the trap is there is so much food that I am sure that we put on weight having these for seven mornings. As well choices including bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans and eggs I ate plenty of cereals, fruit, toast etc. etc. We have never seen so much food for breakfast anywhere!

11. We went to most of the restaurants during our stay and found the food and service at Bommies the best. The food and service on the Denison Star was also excellent and well worth going on. We also enjoyed lunch at the Pebble Beach restaurant at qualia, a lunch at the golf club which included a conducted tour and a trip to Whitehaven Beach.

12. Although the restaurants had mainly Wild Oats and Tic Tock wines (produced by the island's owner's Robert Oatley vineyards mainly from Mudgee ) there were other choices available.

13. I read that meals at qualia were for guests and by invitation only. I sent an e-mail to the Food & Beverage Manager and he arranged a booking for us. It was great to see what the top of the line accommodation and services at the island looked like. It was a most enjoyable lunch with excellent service and a wonderful view.

14. Although the price of the accommodation at the Beach Club is higher than we usually pay we found that the location right next to the beach, the service and facilities were just ideal for us. They were special times watching the sun set on the deck of the yacht club and at the hill top as well as the soft sand at Whitehaven Beach and the sparkling water to swim in.

Cannot say much about the hotel apart from that it is soo not worth the price!!
It is a reasonable hotel - however it is 3* at an absolute push.
The bedrooms and surrounding area resemble a students living quarters - reasonably clean but terribly basic and not at all well equipped.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
If making the trip to Hamilton Island, I recommend either staying in a cheaper hotel (which will most likely be of the same standard as Beach Club) or going all out and staying in Qualia.
It still annoys me how expensive this hotel was and the service that it provided. Go elsewhere!!

Five good reasons to choose the Beach Club:

*Top service - from the minute the plane lands and departs. Friendly staff, always smiling and happy to drive us anywhere we wanted, at any time of the day/night. When we needed a new kettle, we got one straight away.
*Location - right on the beach. No time is wasted driving back and forth to the beach; it's literally on your doorstep. You can hear the ocean when you sleep, watch the stars at night...also, table service on the beach.
*Breakfast- a la carte. Top marks for this one. Try something different every day, it's just brilliant.
*Comfortable bed – yes this is very important. The bed is just incredibly comfortable!!!
*Adults only – not only at the hotel, but also private beach beds.

There are many more reasons to stay at the Beach Club, but we tried to keep it short. We had a fantastic stay here - just very relaxing and the water was still warm even in July. Also, try the gym & mini golf its great fun. We played squash twice and had a small work out; it's great to get the blood rushing. The furniture in the rooms are old, but very much functional! The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are huge with a large bathtub + separate shower and two sinks. These days, most new 5* hotels do not offer such large rooms, and for the price you pay right on the beach it's totally worth it. Get a room on ground level!

Thank you!!!

We had a very pleasant 5 night stay at Beach Club. The location is great - you can literally walk out of the hotel and onto the beach. The rooms are of a good standard and size, very large double bed, bath and separate shower. All rooms have sea views and a balcony. The units are not super modern, but were clean and comfortable.

Service at Beach Club is excellent. All the staff were well-trained, friendly, relaxed in their jobs and very willing to help. The general manager Marcus sets this relaxed and friendly tone personally, and was a visible and approachable presence during our stay.

Guests have exclusive use of an excellent pool (which never seemed to get busy) and nice loungers both by the pool and on the beach. There is a good bar offering waiter service for both the pool and the beach, as well as the indoor lounge area. The restaurant provided good breakfasts, but if you decide to eat there in the evening budget 200 AUD for a couple. Other dining options within the hotel itself are limited.

Beach club does not have its own gym, spa pools, suanas or other similiar facilities, which was a disappointment. These facilities do exist on the island but are shared with other hotels. The shared gym and sports centre is fairly basic, tired looking and not very appealing. There is a separate luxury spa facility on the island, for massage and other treatments which was very good indeed, although expensive.

If you have not been to Hamilton Island before, its worth mentioning that all the accommodation, restaurants and facilities on island are owned by the same company, Hamilton Island Enterprises. This makes the whole island feel like one big holiday camp (like Centre Parcs in the UK) albeit quite an upmarket one!

In summary, Beach Club is probably the best place to stay on Hamilton Island unless your budget extends to a stay at the qualia resort on the north of the island. Beach Club's waterfront location and excellent service and staff give the hotel the edge over the other hotels nearby.

We stayed at the Beach Club for 3 nights, we had a room over the restaurant with an amazing view over the ocean. I liked the beach club, but I thought their rooms were a bit tired and dated, although spacious and comfortable. We could walk to the marina in 10 minutes, close to the nature park (great for kids) where one could cuddle a koala. Hotel facilities included free internet, spa, pool, restaurant. Breakast was great, we always ate way to much, and the a la carte options were very tasty. It is a special place, honeymoon destination for sure. We took the package with two boat trips included. The susset cruise was awesome, was not impressed with the dinner cruise, very impersonal and not very romantic at all. I think if I went back, I'd probably stay at Qualia, Hamilton Island.

We stayed at the Beach club for 5 nights at the beginning of May for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel had been recommended to us as 5* . We were so dissapointed with the standard of the rooms, which are in need of a renovation. We liked that we were met at the airport and taken to the hotel in a golf buggy, however, on arrival we were taken to the reception lounge in to what I can only descripe as a doctors waiting room. The hotel is run down and depressing. The service from the staff was fantastic and the breakfast was top notch. We also found out that there is a new 5* resort on Hamilton Island Qualia which we contacted to see if they had any availability but they were fully booked, So next time we visit it will not be to the beach club.

Dear Trudi Jane,
Thank you for your kind words in relation to our service and dining experience. We pride ourselves on offering a first class service to our guests in an intimate, boutique hotel environment. I would like to apologise for your expectations not being meet with the interiors of the rooms and reception lounge. These issues are currently being addressed by a soft refurbishment which we have just initiated and will be completed in the coming months.

I thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention and I trust that we will welcome you back to Hamilton Island in the very near future.

The staff were friendly and attentative at all times. The food was always top quality. The room was clean and well presented. The added attraction was having a golf buggy available to deliver and pick up to us anywhere on the island when it was wanted.
