“Great Place To Stay”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

Spent 4 nights here from 29 Nov to 3 Dec 2013.
Great place to stay. Great pool, buffet breakfast was beyond anything I imagined.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great Place to stay.
Nice bar for drink and get togethers.

Room Tip: Rooms on floor 4 and above also give you ocean views

A good free shuttle service operated by hotels to and from the airport. We arrived at about midday and were told that our room wasn't yet ready, but that if we cared to take lunch, it would soon be available afterwards. We had lunch in the dining room and made further enquiries. We were asked to wait a little longer and had no option but to do so. After a further delay we were told that a lady from reception would let us know when our room was ready. We were only there for two days and it looked as though much of our first day was ebbing away, so eventually we asked if we could park our luggage and go off sightseeing while we waited for the room to be prepared. We were told that in fact it was now ready and that they had just phoned us to let us know. It turned out that they had phoned our home number many thousands of miles away instead of taking the simple expedient of coming through to the next room to speak to us! Not surprisingly, there had been no reply!

As there is a strict rule about vacating rooms by 10 am, we assumed that we might expect our room to be cleaned fairly early the following day. We were surprised to find our room unmade by mid-afternoon, but were more concerned with getting changed for the wedding we were attending shortly afterwards. We were almost ready at 3.45 pm when room service arrived. We asked for a further ten minutes, as we were half dressed, but were told that this was out of the question, as the staff concerned went off at 4 pm. When we arrived back from the wedding late that evening the room still hadn't been attended to and we had no option but to make our own beds! This is the only hotel we have been to where guests had to do this!

We wonder whether the hotel is economising on staff and that this accounts for the take-it-or-leave-it attitude we found during our brief stay. We were not sorry to leave the next day.

Dear merab

Firstly thank you for not only staying with us, but also for your review.

To read that you didn’t have a smooth check in is upsetting & I do apologise for this.

As is with any hotel worldwide, especially one the size of The Reef View Hotel, Check In is 2pm & Check Out 10am. We always endevour to have rooms ready on arrival however as is the nature of Arrivals & Departures, late check outs or early check ins aren't always available.

I am however pleased to know that your room was prepared and made available well before our 2pm check in time.

The service issues you experience with your room is very disappointing.

Please be assured this is uncommon and does not reflect our service culture or standards. I sincerely apologise.

As always I appreciate your feedback. Without it no hotel or establishment can maintain their level of service.

Thank you again for your review.

Warm regards

The Reef View Hotel is a good quality hotel in this lovely small island. Built around 25 years ago it is showing some signs of age but the room sizes are excellent and the location very close to one of the best beaches on the island is excellent.
Hamilton Island is amazingly owned by one person or at least his company so virtually all of the hotels and restaurants and water sports are controlled by one person so to say there is a monopoly is an understatement. All the prices are similar wherever you eat or drink which in some ways is good but it gives no competition. They are also all incredibly busy even just out of season so unless you book a restaurant you may not get to eat where you want.
The whole atmosphere is a bit like the old tv programme The Prisoner where you cannot do anything without the owner knowing what you are doing, all a bit disconcerting but nevertheless it is a lovely place to be.

Room Tip: Try and get a room above the 4th floor to get an amazing view.

This was part of our recent tour down the east coast of Australia and it's like staying in paradise. A very small island with free busses to take you around and all traffic consists of gold buggies.Plenty of activities in and around the marina. It was the highlight of the holiday and I hope to go back again someday.

When we arrived to check we were greeted by friendly staff at reception who were very helpful.
The room had a lovely balcony with a view and the room was very spacious with good size bathroom. The beds were so comfortable. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with a wide variety to choose from. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here and would definitely return

Resort was wonderful with friendly staff. We had lovely ocean views. We were there for our anniversary and were upgraded from a garden view and treated to champagne on arrival. Complementary breakfast was a fantastic start to the day. Everything was within walking distance. Hotel arranged pick up and drop off from the airport. There was a free shuttle into centre of town. Tropical paradise. Can't wait to go back with the family.

Room Tip: Booked a garden view and was upgraded to an ocean view and treated with champagne on arrival.

We recently stayed here for a week with family celebrating a family members Birthday. I cannot speak highly enough of this Hotel. This was our 2nd stay here and once again we were very impressed.

We had a coral sea view room on the 16th floor (after calling ahead of time to request a higher level room to maximise views, which was granted for us and my families rooms x2 without any hassles!). "Wow"! is all I can say about the view, it is simply magnificent.

After I contacted the General Manager, Matt and explained when we were coming etc. He and his staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They very kindly put all of us (3 rooms total) all on level 16 next to one another and left a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room. Further the lady in charge of room allocations noticed that my Husband and I were travelling with our 14 month old and offered a microwave and highchair complimentary, which was most helpful. So thank you ever so much for going the extra mile for us. It was certainly very appreciated.

Regarding the hotel in general, it is fine. It's by no means the flashest hotel I have stayed in, however it is clean and well appointed and things ran very smoothly. Hamilton Island is a beautiful place to visit and we are working out when we will next come back!!! Highly recommend this hotel.
