“Clean and Comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2014

The Palm Bungalows are clean and comfortable as they are newly refurbished. The kitchenette is good as I could buy in dinner and have a meal with proper cutlery. Outside, you can hear the birds chirping and singing and we saw cockatoos, a kookaburra, and a host of other birds. It is like a bird park!

We took breakfast at the Sails as it had a good variety of food and we enjoyed our meals there.

The location of the bungalows are great as it is a short walk (uphill then downhill) to the marina where you can buy your meals at the Bakery, Fish and Chips store or General Store, to name a few.

To get around the island, you can hire a golf buggy, take the bus shuttle or simply walk as the distances are not too great (a great form of exercise).

We did the walking trail up to the Resort Lookout Point which has lovely views. A bit of an uphill climb though and it took 35 minutes to walk up from the back of the Conference Center. Be careful of loose gravel and stones on the downhill walk. A walking stick will come in handy or pick up a broken branch along the way.

A good day trip will be out to the Whitehaven Beach which is not too far away. I did the Reef Ryder Tour which is in a separate review.

Catseye Beach is great too and there are free kayaks, paddle boards and other water sports equipment to use if you stay with the hotel. But there are certain timings to adhere to with the tides so if you do want to go out for water sports, check the schedule printed in the daily activity sheet given to you at check in.

Overall a wonderful trip to Hamilton Island!

We stayed here for just one night after an overnight boat trip on the Great Barrier Reef and just loved it! The room was charming and spacious, and looked recently updated. We did one of the hikes from the property and had a great time. We really wished we had more time there. A very charming place and we will definitely return.

Three adults enjoyed our four days on Hamilton Island. We stayed in one of the Palm Bungalows. Our breakfast came with our room. The buffet at the Wildlife Cafe was fine, nothing to write home about. The buffet at the reef hotel was wonderful; many choices. The sofa pull out bed was a trundel bed with a very hard mattress. It wasn't very comfortable, so we took turns as to who had to sleep on it. The bed was comfy. We had ants in our room. They had set out a couple of ant traps so they were aware of them. But it was annoying to have ants everywhere. We couldn't leave any food out. The ants were in the kitchen area and bathroom. The beach staff was polite. But it seemed like they didn't want to set up the sail boats. The wind was blowing it was a perfect day for sailing but they said it was too windy :( That's when one is supposed to sail. And it wasn't that windy. It would be nice if there was an option for a lenght of stay rental for the golf cart instead of having to going back and re-rent one.

My wife and I stayed here on the second stop of a three pronged assault on Australia in September 2013. We were initially lured in by the pictures and reviews from Tripadvisor, and the positive spins are all an accurate portrayal of this excellent self-catering accommodation.

You can spend a lot of money on accommodation on Hamilton Island, but I can’t see what the appeal of doing so is when everything you are there for is outside. That’s not to say Palm Bungalows is not of standard, quite the opposite. Ours was finished to a very high specification, and it was great having the option to self-cater if we didn’t want to go out of an evening. In comparison to the larger hotels, in staying within the bungalows you are afforded a lot more welcome privacy. The fantastic pool area was only a couple of minutes’ walk away, as was the buggy hire centre, an absolute must for getting out and exploring the island.

Set in tropical gardens, it was a pleasure to spend time relaxing on the balcony. There are even some friendly neighbourhood Wallabies who spent their evenings hopping around our room.

We had an absolutely fantastic time on the Island and we have some superb memories of the stay. Would we go back, probably not as once you have been, you should have pretty much covered it. However, would we recommend others to go, yes. Would we recommend they stayed in the Palm Bungalows, absolutely.

The Bungalows are a great alternative for those who want something more private than your standard high rise hotel. Set amongst palm trees and a tropical garden it is an ideal setting for a relaxing few days. The rooms are spacious with a basic kitchenette and all the usual fittings. The beds are very good as is the air con, a must in the tropical heat. The location is close to the beach and pool and restaurants. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and wished we had booked longer.

Room Tip: The higher number Bungalows 50+ have the best setting.

We stayed during the recent cyclone, started in one near the Reef Hotel, very handy to facilities but discovered there were others with far more private and tranquil settings. Ask for numbers 30 to 37 or 45 to 50 - you will thank me if you get one, these are the best located to the pools and beach and for breakfast. I wish someone had put this tip on before I booked! If your breakfast is included go to Sails as you will have a choice, don't bother with the hotel - too busy, and only choose the wildlife cafe if you have kids who want to see the koalas.
Come departure day, after going to the airport for our flight we waited 2 hours only to to be told it had to be cancelled due to the weather - fair enough. So rang our accommodation and were told its OK you will get your room back again, after all no one could get onto the island so it should still be available. Different story back at reception, they tried to give us a room in the hotel instead and said all the bungalows were now taken with guests from other accommodation. I had my doubts so after much insistence they "found" one for us. We subsequently noticed quite a number were vacant that night. Please don't make up stories and force your staff to lie to guests - that is not professional I'm afraid. As we were being offered a lower rate I can only assume they preferred us in the hotel for that rate ( it is lower standard and smaller room than the bungalows).
Having said that, nearly all the staff have been super friendly and helpful and have helped to make the best of the situation.
Would definitely recommend the bungalows for the price, they have all you need, good king size bed, large ensuite (no bath) small kitchen, great verandah with table and chairs and a hammock. The Beach Club has an even better position, looking directly onto the beach, these rooms may be worth considering when the renovations are complete, older reviews of these indicate they were somewhat tired before.

Room Tip: See the review for bungalows to request.

These bungalows are set among Palm trees with beautiful scene and quite surroundings. It is spacious and supplied with basic amenities. You have a stove, kettle and other basic kitchen utensils for cooking should you choose to do so. Coffee and tea with milk are complimentary rand replenished daily. There is a basic room service daily between 11.30am to 4pm.

We found the air conditioning in the room set at a very good temperature. Cool upon our return from outdoor activities during the day and warm for sleeping.

We particularly enjoyed the location of the accommodation which is close to both the marina as well as the hiking tracks. We didn't find the need to hire a buggy at all as everything was within walking distance.

Highly recommend you spend time enjoying the hammock out on the bungalow balcony!
