Fantastic faultless service...beautiful location. Hamilton Island is such a beautiful island...also stayed at the Yacht Club villas, another tranquil place. We loved zooming around in the golf buggy's...lots of fun.

My husband and I recently stayed at qualia for our honeymoon. It was a last minute and fleeting visit (unfortunately) as he works away and getting time off can be tricky.
I really had my heart set on staying I in one of the windward pavilions however there were only leeward pavilions available. I thought I would be really disappointed (and I was) until we arrived... The leeward pavillion is gorgeous and truthfully just to stay here I would take anything.
The moment you arrive at the airport and approach the qualia desk you feel like a VIP and this continues until the moment you depart. The level of service is next to none, nothing is too much trouble.
I recommend a beach drop off, playing golf at dent island (even if you are a terrible player like I am the course is stunning!) and definatly having the tasting menu at the long pavillion at least one night... It was amazing!
I was so sad to leave this beautiful resort and go back to the real world, it really is a little slice of heaven. I have already told my husband I want to go back for our anniversary and this time stay in a windward pavillion, although regardless of not being able to stay in a windward this time around I honestly don't think we could have had a better time.

Dear PenelopeLapham,

What a pleasure it was having you with us in celebrating your honeymoon - congratulations once again!

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay. You might appreciate that our Windward pavilions are proving popular but so too are our beautiful Leeward Pavilions - a perfect space in which unwind and relax after the frenetic activities any wedding inevitably create!

I must agree whole heartedly with you on playing a round of golf on Dent Island. It's a demanding course for any golfer but with such vistas on every hole, these more than compensate for any challenge presented.

Do let me know when you wish to book a Windward pavilion for your anniversary! I'd be delighted to assist and to welcome you back once more.

Kind regards,

Matthew T

We were told to expect the best but Qualia surpassed our expectations. What an amazing resort. The ambience was delightful without being over bearing. The service first class (no hint of back packer staff!) and the good to die for.
Loved it.

We were expecting qualia to be beautiful but the photos do not do it justice - it is breathtakingly beautiful. From the very minute you arrive, management and staff do everything they can to ensure your stay is a memorable one. The views are spectacular - our Whitsundays are stunning. Everything is to the very highest standard. The Pavilions are private and well appointed. The food was excellent. The hardest decision is whether to go out and leave your Pavilion with its amazing views and private plunge pool or go down by the very generous sized infinity pool and enjoy the sea breeze and continuous food and bar service or be taken for a sail. Nothing is too much trouble here. Obviously we loved qualia and will definitely return. We were expecting qualia to be beautiful but the photos do not do it justice - it is breathtakingly beautiful. Very difficult to find a fault, but if I am to be picky, the reputation before arriving was that the coffee was not the best and it turned out to be that way.
This is a big thing for people who love coffee and most people do. The coffee in the restaurant was "ok" which is not good enough for 5 star at $1,600 a day. The room service coffee was noy hot enough, milky and weak.
We ended up making our own from the plunger in the room.
Coffee was an area that has been mentioned in trip adviser before and I noted that the boss replied with promises to address it, but clearly sir you have failed.
Everything else was superb, and if not for the huge tariff, coffee would not get a mention, but I find it amazing that such a simple thing that most cafes have gotten excellent at cannot be fixed in a 5 star joint.
Hope to have any test in Dec

We just spent several nights here for a wedding anniversary. The windward pavillions are lovely and the views breathtaking. Travellers beware though - if you're not on intimate terms with your partner you soon will be as there's no door to the toilet which is situated just a few metres around the corner from your bed! Certainly no good if one of you becomes unwell or needs to go during the night as it's a noisy marble-walled space and there's no way to have a little more privacy or to be discreet. This could be easily rectified by a sliding door which would not ruin the space, but would make everyone a little more comfortable. It was certainly a talking point amongst guests with others agreeing they would not return.

We discovered that staff at Qualia all have one thing in common - they are unfailingly friendly and polite - and unfailingly have just arrived at the resort and are still trying to learn the ropes. The new GM who greeted us on arrival was charming, attentive and keen to give a good impression of the resort. It is stunning, but there's is much that separates it from a truly World-class, 5 star establishment and it's unbelievable that it has won resort of the year. A little tweaking would do wonders!

Housekeeping & Turn down service - sometimes they come, sometimes they don't. There's clearly no system. We arrived back at our pavillion several late afternoons to find our room hadn't been cleaned. For the turn down sometimes they come when you're already in bed for the night and sometimes they don't come at all. Items are not restocked with any certainty and we found we needed to keep calling for toilet paper, milk, coffee grounds, tea bags etc to be replenished.

Activities - you definitely need to book ahead of your arrival. We missed out on a few things we would have liked to do.

Breakfast - lovely, but sort of limited for a 5 star hotel. If you're a health nut wanting fresh fruit and yoghurts or bircher muesli etc, you'll be disappointed. The cooked breakfast is made to order, but sometimes you just don't want to eat heavy cooked food in a hot climate. You are provided with a small plate of fresh cut fruit and some yoghurt in a shot glass, but it doesn't always come. It would be nice to have the fresh fruit etc available to help yourself to with the cereals.

Restaurants - We only ended up eating at one restaurant. Pebble beach (although several times) as we didn't like the sound of the Long Pavillion menu (lots of meat and fruit combos which isn't to everyone's taste). The food was okay. Not stellar and not worthy of a 5 star establishment.

In house entertainment - an antiquated and frustrating service that is just like you get in 3 star motels! What on earth were they thinking?

The staff are all so nice - BUT they really need to be trained. Just because it's a laid-back resort in a laid-back country doesn't mean people want laid-back service. The facilities and location are 5 star - the service and attention to detail are 3 star!

Dear Wilburchien,

Many thanks for your review following your recent stay. May I again congratulate you on your wedding anniversary and feel privileged that you chose qualia as the venue in which to celebrate such an important milestone together!

I sincerely appreciate your comments both favourable and those in respect to the various aspects of your stay which failed to pass muster.

We pride ourselves on the friendly and outgoing disposition of all the qualia team and while I take comfort that this was clearly reiterated during your stay; I regret that you found that some inexperience amongst the team. We place a heavy emphasis on ongoing team training and professional development. Good hospitality practice and the inherent transience of any island workforce dictates such and my colleagues are encouraged to connect with our guests. This said, laid back service is most definitely not advocated; as this all too easily can be misconstrued as complacency.

With 60 pavilions and enjoying high occupancies - qualia does maintain a system to facilitate pavilion servicing and turn-downs. I am very much concerned to learn then, that your room servicing was intermittent as described and basic consumables were overlooked. I fully concur that this is not an unrealistic expectation for the 5 star experience we seek to provide and this is being reviewed carefully with the housekeeping team.

The TV and integrated in-room entertainment system in place in each pavilion is scheduled for replacement by mid-2014 and latest generation options are actually under testing and review as I write.

Just yesterday, qualia was once more awarded “Best Resort In Australia” by Australian Traveller Reader’s Choice Awards for 2013 – an affirmation that we continue to do good work but it appears that during your stay very regrettably - your overall experience was not worthy of such an accolade. For this – I do sincerely apologise.
