Beautifully situated apartment let down by poor maintenance and cleanliness. We noticed kitchen cupboard doors falling off hinges, no dishwasher, ants everywhere in the kitchen and cockroaches in the lounge. There was a remote control missing in the lounge which meant we could not put the light and fan on over the dining room table. The apartment manual is out of date so when we rang the contact numbers for help they didn't answer. When we did make contact using another number we were told the kitchen was being renovated so they would try and fix the doors in a few days. This did not happen. At $4,500 for 10 days stay this is very poor value.
We arrived to cobwebs, bugs and dust, crumbs stuck in table top, food and dust on dining chairs, outside tiles splattered with food stains, grossly unclean fans, light switches and skirtings.
On top of this many of the lights were not working however, the really upsetting issue was the outside light with absolutely no connection - it had obviously been like this for a long time. How were we to have a meal outside as a family, enjoying the view and climate? WE COULDN'T!
All of this was reported within hours of being there. The following day a clean was completed for us but no maintenance was attended to. We were told that this apartment is an "'unrenovated apartment that doesn't always present well'. Funnily enough, this isn't what the advertising says nor does it tell the consumer to pay more and have a nicer apartment which was also suggested - disgraceful!
I contacted Hamilton Island Holiday Apartments yet again when I returned home to give them yet another opportunity to make things right with us, but alas no.
The Consumer Protection in Australia and they said we had a good case going forward for a refund, but to be honest, we lead such busy lives that we have not had the time. Hence, the time it has taken me to complete this review.
Having travelled within over 40 countries, this is the worst stay in a far from cheap apartment we have ever experienced!!!
