We stayed at Long Island Resort for three nights. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, the bed was king size and comfortable. The bathroom was clean, small and modern. Great value for the Whitsundays.

We recently had a lovely 2 night stay at BreakFree Island Resort with our 3 year old and 9 month old. This resort is a great option if you would like a simple, limited frills option for a stay in the Whitsundays. As it was very quiet, upon check in we were luckily upgraded to a beach front room which I would highly recommend initially booking. The rooms are simple but clean and have new bathrooms and the views are gorgeous. You step out to a palm lined beach with hammocks and sun loungers. Food was fine only 2 options either buffet or bar menu, this could have gotten a little 'tired' for a longer stay. We self catered for breakfast. Our 3 year old had a couple of hours at the kids club where he enjoyed exploring for coconuts to paint. He also fed fish and birds and loved listening to the live music each afternoon and evening. This same guy also ran a kids disco one night- he was really lovely to all the kids and very talented. The island has some nice walks and the staff were all very helpful and friendly.
A great option for a relaxing holiday with lots of activities, if wanted, on offer.

Food was not good. Half the ingredients listed weren't in the food. Over cooked and very expensive. Lovely island but food needs immediate attention and the window rattler air cons were a nightmare! PS tell the guests next time 60 school students turn up as this is a resort NOT a school camp!!!

Thank you for your feedback in regards to your recent stay at BreakFree Long Island Resort. I am glad to learn that you thought the island was lovely and that the resort was good value.

It is regrettable, however, that you did not enjoy the food that was available. Please be assured that I have passed your feedback on to my Head Chef to ensure improvements are made in the future.

BreakFree Long Island Resort welcomes a range of groups, including school and youth groups, throughout the year, and it is unfortunate that this particular group caused you some disturbance. We do always attempt to keep any potential disruption to a minimum. I understand that you have already spoken to our Assistant General Manager about the issues you experienced regarding this group, so I will leave this to continue offline.

Had a great time here in April 2014, everything was good expect the meals we spent a lot of money on bar food only because the main dinning menu wasn't great. So yes I would go back but find a better way of getting good meals not sure how.

Room Tip: Away from the main area, A/Con noisy.

Having read many of the reviews of this resort, we weren't sure what to expect. But we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days of rest and relaxation over the Easter Break.

The staff were friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us.

We were in a ground floor beachfront room which was clean and tidy with ceiling fan, air-conditioning, a bar fridge and nice comfy bed. Our front door opened onto a small deck with table and chairs which was a few feet away from the sand with the beach just a few meters further on.

We spent most of our days relaxing on the sunbeds outside of our rooms or lazing in one of the hammocks. There seemed to be mostly couples in the rooms around us which made for a quiet relaxing atmosphere on the beach in front of our accommodation.

The Pool was fairly busy with families. and the bar with lots of backpackers and twenty something couples. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. The guys in the bar were fantastic and juggled orders for drinks cocktails and meals very efficiently. There was never more than a few minutes wait at the bar.

The meals in the dining room were well priced, and the variety was excellent. We had late breakfast as part of our package and alternated between the bar and the dining room for our evening meal.
We made do on Sandwiches and muffins from the resort shop for lunch if we were hungry.

There were plenty of activities if you were looking for things to do, but for us, relaxing on the sunbeds for 4 days, reading and sleeping was all we wanted.

If you are looking for an inexpensive, relaxed and casual holiday in the Whitsundays this is the place to go. All you need is a couple of pairs of shorts and a few tops, thongs and bathers.

We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: ground floor beach front rooms for us.

The family was looking for a reasonably priced Australian vacation over the Easter break and the 9 day stay at Breakfree Island Resort exceeded expections.

We booked initally on Groupon, for 7 nights, which also included a $100 food voucher. We made sure there was availability, and we then phoned the hotel to confirm our booking. No problem. Four days before departure we were phoned by the hotel to ensure our ferry tranfers from the mainland were booked ( which they then weren't ) at the correct times, and they arranged transters which were cheaper than the standard price, and simply booked to our room. Again no problem. Mis-booked our return flights and needed another night, which was added for $99.

Caught a cab from Airlie Beach to the jetty for $35 but didn't really need to. We later found out the local bus travels there for $2.80 pp but it obviosly depends on your departure time. Checked in at the ferry terminal without incident. Friendly helpful staff took our luggage and we sat at the cafe which had a range of snacks and was licenced also. Boarded the ferry for the 15 minute trip, and were met on arrival by staff with a golf cart who trundelled us to the hotel with our luggage. It is possible to walk, but is a fair distance.

Checked in, and as we did so were given a quick rundown on the facilities and activities/services available.Friendly accomadating staff. Were surpsied to recieve 2 adult mocktail and 2 kids mocktai; vouchers. No porter service, but that's Ok. Self laundry is available.

The beach front family room was clean and spacious and well serviced, new bathroom with plenty of towels, both on tthe beds and in the bathroom also. Tons of storage space. A small empty bar fridge, and a table and 2 chairs. Outside provided a small patio with table and chairs looking directly onto the beach. It could be described as a bit dated, but very clean and certainly not run down or shabby. Comfortabel beds, room serviced every 2 days, and even on another day which was not expected or requested. Fresh towels were available at any time upon request. Grounds were spotless, even to the extent of of being woken by the maintainance guy one morning who was rakiing the beach and continued doing so for helf a day.

Facilities were numerous, tennis court, mini-golf, 2 pools, table tennis, billiard table, basket ball court, all free. Some free waresports such as kayaking and 2 pedal boats, paddle boards were $10 and jet skis for $90 per half hr, tube rides also. A roaming massuse provided free 5 minute mini massages, and a pro phographer provided free outdoor shoots, with first photo free, Subsequent shots $20 each. Numerous bush walking tracks in the national park. Even a flying boat service for joy rides and excursions ( although not cheap ) . Numerous organised activities both for adults and kids were available from beach soccer to treasure hunts to trivia nights on the balcony, bird and fish feeding. Entertainment was varied and catered well to all age ranges.

Catering consists only of bar snacks and the one restaurant, so variety is limited. Bar food is typical pub fare and reasonably priced in line with capital city prices and although not gourmet, is of an acceptable standard. Drinks and chips are available at vending machines at $3 each. The restaraunt evening meals were buffet, a good variety including vegetarian and priced at $38, quite reasonable for a 4 or more course meal. Individual dishes vary in quality, but overall would be rated at a good/high standard with plenty of seafood and steaks on offer. As there was a small fridge in the room, we also took over cereals for breakfast and a range of nibbles to supplement the food on offer. There appeared to be a lack of fresh fruit and fresh salads and orange juice was either orangedrink or cordial. Overall though, a good to high standard considering the location and difficulty in catering to so many guests.

Hospitality staff were well trained and attentive to detail, with the bar staff only taking one or two days to recognise your regular beverage. Front of house were courteous and could not help enogh, wether it was a wrongly booked return journey ( our fault, but immediatly fixed ), a plaster for a cut foot, or a spilled Milo all through the bed sheets. Nothing was too much problem. Water sports staff were overly generous with their time, and staff looking after the kids were both entertaining and enthusiastic. Alll in all a great crew.

Note ; Recption closes at 6.30 PM, so if cigarettes are need they need to be purchased before then, as do cash withdrawls over the counter.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Long Island and would reccomend this resort as a family and couple friendly paradise. I also noticed that I don't think I heard one complaint from the many and varried guests whom we spent a great deal of time with, relaxing and just having fun.

Room Tip: If avaiable, try to get a beachfont room on the ground floor, and walk directly onto the sand.

The ferry from Shute Harbour is only 20 minutes and once you arrive on the island, you have the choice of waiting for the golf buggy to take you up four at a time or you can walk. We walked, it was only 10 minutes. Reception was quick and efficient, explaining everything you need to know and giving you directions to your room. Whilst the room itself is a bit outdated, mostly showing in the cupboard and the springs in the queen bed, we found the room to be nice enough to sleep in. The beach view room offers you the opportunity to sit outside your room and enjoy the breeze and partial view (trees) and access to pool lounges and hammocks facing the beach. Watersports offers turtle tours via kayaks, reef snorkeling tours, jetski hire, tube rides, Stand up Paddle boards, paddle boats and kayaks for entertainment during high tide. There are also nature walks, mini golf, video arcade, tennis courts, ping pong and pool tables. The pool is a nice size located by the bar which gives you excellent service. The food during Easter weekend was AMAZING. It was buffet style in the restaurant and I left fat and happy both nights. The pool bar also has a menu during lunch and dinner along the lines of pub food. Really can't fault anything about our stay, I I found my time here in Long Island to be quiet agreeable and look forward to returning in the future. Ok, maybe I wish the ferry ride was cheaper but that's Cruise Whitsunday and not Breakfree resort. Also, if you book through expedia, you don't get any housekeeping unless you pay. Just in case anyone is wondering. I only booked expedia because the actual hotel website didn't have the two consecutive days I wanted available. :)
