“Perfect Honeymoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2011

Paradise Bay was an amazing place to stay. We were so well taken care of by Rosie, Steve, Bronwyn, Luke, and the rest of the crew. They were helpful and friendly and just generally good people who really made the island feel like a vacation home instead of a resort. The setting was stunning, but we're not the type to sit around and admire the view, so it was great that we were also able to hike, kayak, sail and snorkel during our stay. They had all of the gear we needed, including sandals for my husband (who forgot to pack anything but dress shoes!!!) and lots of sunscreen! Oh, and bug repellent, since everything is open air. If you're hooked on AC or not up for a few bug bites, then you should consider somewhere else, but if you love feeling the ocean breeze and hearing the birds, you'll be fine. It was a completely worry free, relaxing honeymoon, and we can't wait to go back.

If you’re looking for the perfect 5* hotel with all the up-to-date techniques, the superb room-service and quick laundry, the 50“ Flat-Screen-TV with Playstation, digital TV, Wireless internet and a high rated night-club scene around … DON’T COME HERE!

But in case all year round you’re staying in 5* hotels for business reason and you’re looking for a totally different experience, simple live in paradise with most possible comfort, quite and taste– that’s your place.

The word “Eco” worried me a bit before we arrived. But it’s not as “Eco” as you would think: the generator was running all time to provide enough electricity for countless refrigerators, fans, the espresso machine, the toaster and boiling hot water. Didn’t mention that the shower is “Eco”, it provides enough water and pressure, no problem. About the lights in the hut: yes, they’re not very bright – but enough to read, especially when you’re having an iPad or something similar. Also I didn’t miss the air-con: the fan provides enough cool air to sleep (and I normally always sleep with air-con switched on, even at home in Kiev). There’s no hair-dryer. So if you need one, bring one.

The Cabana is the ideal place to hang around. There’re comfortable sofas, sun beds and always enough high quality snacks and drinks. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared by an experienced Chef in the “modern Australian” style – just perfect! Matching wines are served to every dish.

The day-trips very much depend on the weather. We did a cruise around long island, a trip to the mangroves, had a bush-walk and a day-trip for snorkeling, spotting turtles, fishes and corals. But in case of bad weather or strong winds (as well as every Sunday) you’ve to stay at the island and read a book.

What is really great is the nature, the wildlife: we feet Wallabies (one still had a baby in the pocket), little sharks, birds etc. In the luster inside the Cabana a bird even made its nest.

Are there down-sides, even you don’t expect 5* luxury but only a comfortable hut? Yes, there are some and at US$ 1400/night they shouldn’t be there. First problem are the tiles in the bathroom: they always look dirty (and they are) due to the surface. There’re always hairs which they can’t really remove. Second minor is the towel situation. Even it’s “Eco” it should be automatically understood that towels lying on the floor should be replaced and not just aired to use again.

But beside these two small things it’s really what we were looking for: just PARADISE!

We stayed in paradise bay for three nights at the end of November. We had three days of fabulous weather and on our last day it rained. We had a great time with Lauren and Ryan as our hosts. Ryan is an excellent chef. We were also treated to a different chef on our last night which was also fabulous but very different.

We had the private dining on the verandah the second night. The group of people at the resort were so nice and we enjoyed eating in the communal dining area although that originally gave us a pause.

The area around the resort was so unspoilt and we were able to see many different areas.

The helicopter reef tour was fabulous definitly reccomend.

This is an exclusive lodge style hosted eco resort in a picturesque bay on Long Island. It is limited to 20 guests but is usually not full. The staff will know you by name and will become your friends while respecting your privacy. They are all dedicated and delightful. The food is top quality modern cuisine with a healthy emphasis on fresh, beautifully cooked ingredients. Dinners are presented at the hosts' table by the chef each night usually with 4 or more courses and excellent Australian and international wines to match. Private dining is a romantic option but most prefer to share the conversation at the main table in the gazebo which is the hub of the resort. Guests treat the Ralph Loren styled gazebo living space as their own, reading, playing board games or chatting over coffee in the morning before the captain offers the opportunity of a boat trip to the other islands or a flight to the reef.

The individual private "Buré" style villas are large, open-air, beach-side havens with large verandahs for relaxing in a hammock or indoors in the big, comfortable beds, though single travellers (who pay no surcharge) may need to choose a side to sleep on rather than lying in the middle since the king size bed is made up with 2 singles fitted together. This is a minor inconvenience in an otherwise delightful Aussie/South Pacific ambience. Bathrooms are simple and prettily accessorised - boasting quality amenities. You'll easily fall asleep to the sound of the waves outside your screened window ( there is no glass ).
It's amazing that everything is powered with a minimum of fuel and plenty of solar energy. Water, which was plentiful this year thanks to "La Niña", is stored in large rain water tanks which supply the needs of guests and the kitchen. The local fauna will introduce gemstones to you too. It's your chance to get a photo op with a wallaby or a goanna.

This is a great place for a honeymoon or a romantic escape. It's also good for solo adventurers who want to go yachting or hiking in the bushland. As I mentioned, 2010 has been unusually wet but the weather is improving now so most of the year you will have a mix of sun and showers but the temperatures are usually warm, cooling down to the mid 20's overnight.
Bring your camera for the helicopter transfer flight and the local wildlife. Take a snorkelling trip to the reef or Whitehaven beach. Be sure to work up an appetite for the day's highlight which is always the fabulous evening meal, enjoyed with fascinating company and stimulating conversation, assisted by the well chosen wines. Did I mention that everything except the reef excursion is all included? You will not need to reach for your wallet once during your stay. I can't end without a special thank you to owner Peter and the charming staff who made certain that every detail of my stay was perfect. Absolutely recommended without reservation.

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful nights on our honeymoon at Paradise Bay. It was the most relaxing holiday we have ever had. Our holiday was off to a great start with the helicopter ride to the resort. The staff are amazing, very friendly and accommodating - nothing was ever too much trouble. The food and wine was exceptional - thanks to the talented chefs. We loved the remoteness of the location, the wildlife e.g. Edwina the wallaby coming for a visit to get her weetbix. It was lovely to go to sleep with only the sound of the waves lapping onto the beach. Being honeymooners we also got treated to a special candlelight dinner on the verandah of our hut which was magical. Another highlight was our day trip on the catamaran to Whitehaven Beach and then snorkelling at Chalkies - gorgeous, amazing under water landscape. To sum it up, fantastic food and wine, exceptional staff, comfortable huts and the opportunity to meet some wonderful, interesting new frends.

The eco resort is exactly how it is marketed. We had magnificent sunshine through to torrential rain and humidity....so this is tropical Queensland as you should know it if you have been educated in Australia. The food was sensational with 2 chefs doing everything possible to make your food experience sensational. The huts are huts but with the best beds and privacy not always possible in the built up areas on other islands. Eco lighting and water saving showers, well if you don’t get the eco concept then it might give you concern, but the showers were really good and the lights I could see and read in so what else do you need? The service and friendliness can only be described as second to none and arguable the best we have ever experienced in our travels. The small numbers the resort caters for is certainly an advantage for this type of service but the friendliness and camaraderie the managers and staff provide is not just part of the job but a genuine interest they have in people and making the experience a memorable one. The boats, the swimming, snorkelling and kayaking we did in all weather conditions but that is and should be part of a tropical experience, some are always better than others but the resort staff does the best it can to make it as good as it can. Would I do it again? YES most definitely, would I change anything? NO and would I recommend it to friends and family, yes but to people I know who appreciates great food and people and love the luxury that an eco resort can provide. Keep it up Rosie, Steve and team

A memorable trip made so because of the incredible staff, the amazing food (and cocktails!) and the exciting adventures each day.

I really felt like I was away from it all, whilst still having the luxuries that one would expected from a 5 star resort. The food was equisite, the rooms were luxuriously decorated, and the staff were so friendly, helpful and accommodating- nothing was too much trouble.

My favourite spot was sitting on the sun lounger, enjoying the view, soaking up the rays, and sipping a magarhita. The gazebo area was also comfy and cozy, I'd forgotten to bring a book but there were plenty of board games, books and mags to keep me entertained. Really felt I was getting back to nature, and thoroughly enjoyed feeding the resident Wallaby Edwina!

A suberb relaxing holiday, I will definitely be back!
