We visited in December, started out a lovely sunny morning, got dropped at the beach, given our stinger suits and was told the boat would be back in 3 hours. We enjoyed a swim with our suits on and laughed saying we looked like TellyTubbies ! Went for a walk along the beach, all very good, unfortunately we were accosted by the March Flies, like huge horse flies and they bite, then it started to pour with rain, they had not had rain for 4 months and it bucketed down, there was no shelter, everything was soaked, we managed to cover what we could, cameras, phones, etc. Eventually the boat came back, they handed out plastic bin liners for protection and as we had booked the whole day the smaller boat took us to the look out and the sun came out, the views were absolutely breathtaking. This is why people visit. It is something not to be missed. The ground looked like it was moving, there were thousands of little crabs moving and as you approached they buried themselves int he sand. The March flies were still bothersome, the guide did have bug spray but one member of our party still had the black stinger suit on and they are obviously attracted to dark colors. It was unfortunately a day from hell, the worse day of our month long visit to Australia. So would suggest you take a raincoat, or one of the plastic ponchos you can buy in the gift stores and have a waterproof bag to put your belongings in along with a very strong bug repellent.
