we had an overseas visitor staying ith us in February so parked our car near morphetvile tram station, free parking and rode the tram to the city, as we are seniors after 9am was free ride with our seniors card, got off at adelaide railway station and walked through the festival theatre centre along the Torrens river to the cathederal free admission and viewed this beautiful church with adelaide history, walked back along the torrens again had lunch at a little restuarant attached to festival theatre, very reasonable, walked back through the Adelaide casino that is part of the old Adelaide raiway stationbuilding, from there one can walk to rundle mall and North Tce which has the museum, South Australia art centre, Adelaide university and further along North Tce the botanical gardens. In Rundle Mall you have all the big shopping and designer stores, we got back on the tram in front of casino to ride back to our car parked at morphetvile or one can travel further on to Glenelg and walk the sight seeing main road in Glenelg, keeping in mind to be back on the tram by 3/4pm not sure what time so check that out, for free seniors ride in the afternoon, great economical way to sight see Glenelg to the city and back, highly recommend also there is a tourist information office at the end of the tram ride opposite the stop at glenelg.

A fun ride to the beach. It was relaxing to sit and see Adelaide suburbs pass by for 30 minutes. A must do!

Now with modern German trams. A justifiably popular service linking suburbs with lovely Glenelg ( a real gem) and with the city centre. A comfortable, quick, economical, convenient and cheap way to travel.
Hopefully the government will further extend this excellent and environmentally friendly service.

The old tram (which I believe was supposed to keep running on the weekends as a concession to those who loved them but somehow got shuffled to the bottom of the 'yes we will actually do what we say we will do' pile offered some attraction, being oldey worldy, charming etc. The new trams are very good for commuters but mean nothing to visitors. The trip to the beach is a little more exciting than watching paint dry but on a popular day a lot more smelly and sticky. In addition to this the trams were built (presumably under the instructions of the ever smart local government), to not have any space for bicycles. Therefore if you are actually a visitor that jumps on a bike and rides the very nice Linear trail to the beach and figure, oh well , I think I'll catch a tram back to the city (after all it is up hill), well then forget it. It is assumed that if you are visiting Adelaide then you are as fit as one of the many spandexed middle aged riders that grace our lovely city in droves. So, tram ride, below average. Glenelg beach...hmm...pretty average..there's far better ones further south but catching the electric train there, well that's another story all together! If you want to take a really nice train trip jump on the Belair train, get off at Belair, take a lovely walk around the National Park and then back to the city. Plenty of bush and great views of the city.

It doesnt matter if you stay in Adelaide or Glenelg because neither is far away when using the tram.

The tram gives you easy access to the ocean, the restaurants and the shops of Glenelg and the city.
