“No pharmacist needed after such pleasant experience”
Reviewed 5 June 2014

We recently dined at the Apothecary and found it being another amazing place in Adelaide. The very carefully maintained original outfit of the Pharmacy is perfectly integrated into the restaurant infrastructure.
Service was very attentive and we followed recommendations what showed to be a good choice. The menu we were served was well balanced and very tasty. Also the wine list does not lack anything.
Another very nice place to go back to.

“Great place!”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Lovely setting in a wine cellar. Food was good, we had the banquet for 2- three courses chosen for us and mains chosen by us. All were delicious. Also had puddings although we're stuffed by then. Service was fantastic beginning to end by which time they were full.
Would definitely recommend.

“The Apothecary could soothe your ills”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

My husband and I visited The Apothecary 1878 recently. The staff, like the atmosphere, was warm and friendly. We were granted a window table, alongside which were two very high backed, plush and comfortable velvet chairs - we felt like we had been given a throne each! From there we perused the extensive wine list, and had the menu explained to us by the knowledgeable and professional waiter. A feature of the menu is that a meal can either be constructed from a selection of small plates or the more traditional entree and main. There are also 3 'banquet' options, where the chef choose your dishes for you (in the 3rd option, diners choose their own main). We took the lazy way out and asked that the chef choose 3 of the 'to savour' (entree) dishes and a shared main. We asked that the main not be duck though, as I don't like duck. We started with crostini and hommous, followed by a squid and cherry tomato dish, then quail with hazelnut and grapes. Our main was beef cheeks, braised for 5 hours, accompanied by gnocchi and a good serve of beans, broccoli and asparagus. All of the dishes were very good, and the beef gravy very tasty. However, if you are seeking a fine dining experience there are better choices. The waiter was extremely helpful with our wine choice, and we had a delightful light to medium bodied South Australian red blend which was also very reasonably priced. My husband enjoyed chocolate mousse for dessert but I settled for a very good decaf coffee and Steven ter Horst chocolate. We had a very enjoyable night, and The Apothecary 1878 would also be a good spot for a late night drink, dessert or nibble.

“Warm ambience and service. Great food.”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

The staff were tops.
Food was great. Had the steak on the bone and it was perfect, medium rare like I like it.
The warm rye rolls were yummy with the butter.
The entree was very small but tasty.
The duck was tasty but a little overcooked.

“Great food and ambience. Fabulous bar service”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

The restaurant is quiet and a haven from the noisy street outside. We ate downstairs and the food was fabulous and the service was good too. We had a cocktail at the bar upstairs before we left and enjoyed watching the barman make the drinks. I'd go back here in a flash for dinner or just to enjoy a well make cocktail!
