“excellent! a clean & modern hotel with a kitchen for the guests”
Reviewed 8 April 2010

I stayed for 3 days in the hotel.
The hotel is clean and modern, I will stay here again if I will visit Adelaide again.
The price is a normal price but the quality is good!
It's located a bit east of the city centre, not far away from stops of the free city circle bus 99C.

The advantage of this hotel is that it has a kitchen for the guests too so you can prepare your meals if you would like to do so. The kitchen is very clean, just like everything in the hotel.
Breakfast is included which is not always the case nowadays: cereals with milk, toast & jam, coffee/tea and juice.
The laundry facilities in the hotel work well, 4 dollar for washing and 4 for drying but your laundry is complete after that.
The room is spacious with a nice furniture.
The airconditioning works well and it is very quiet!
The TV is large and there are several channels to watch but not always the best quality, digital would be better but still nice to be able to see several channels.
There is not much of a view from the window, my view was on the entry of some appartments but it didn't mind that at all, I'm not there for the view. and the nice wooden things cover the window nicely.
There are enough closets to put your clothes in.
The room is very quiet, no noise problems.
The bed was good, the only little thing was that the pillows are too high, to volumnious. The time had changed in the weekend from summer to winter time but the time on the alarm clock was still the summer time (so I changed it myself).
The internet worked well but you had to pay for that separately, 35 dollar for 3 days (but isn't that in most hotels).
The bathroom was good. The tap was modern and not so water efficient. But the shower was good and it is a handshower so you can for example even clean your feet better then with the common wall showers in Australia.

Adabco is a beautiful small hotel. Very easy to get to from the airport (turn right and keep going!) and no problem finding on-street parking on the weekend (20c before midday on Saturday for the meter). The room was very spacious with plenty of storage. Not much of a view from my room - not sure if the building would have any real view worth asking for though. Had booked a king bed but only got a queen size. As I was only staying the one night I didn't bother asking to change rooms but the price difference was refunded without fuss afterwards. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom small (shower only) with minimal facilities (one cake of soap, one shampoo, one body wash). Good hair dryer, iron, TV (widescreen but as usual the signal transmitted is 4:3 shown stretched to 16:9 - why do so many hotels bother buying great TVs only to waste the screen size?!) with typical collection of local and extra sports/news/music/doco channels.

Bad point would have been the 10am check out with very ordinary breakfast. Pretty sure cereal & toast doesn't count as "continental buffet breakfast" in most people's book. Much better off sleeping in and finding a nice cafe for brekky (even the one over the road in the hospital is good).

Rooms had broadband (ethernet) and there was a PC near the dining room which looked pretty pricey.

We stayed for three nights at this hotel; the room we had was OK in some respects - the beds were excellent, but the room was crowded. The bathroom was badly designed with a really silly hand-basin and an even sillier tap. There was only one hook for clothing in there and no shelves for toilet bags, etc. The breakfast room reminded us of school and the breakfast itself was perfunctory - tinned fruit for heaven's sake, nasty soggy bread and margarine to put on it! On the stroke of 10am, when breakfast finished, the girl in charge cleared everything, even the coffee. How did this mean place get four stars?

If you can get a room here then book it. I had a faultless two days here and everything the hotel promises it delivers. The room was spotlessly clean with contemporary furniture (including FS TV) and nice fittings, a funky bathroom and wonderful beds. The free complimentary breakfast was perfectly good and the staff very friendly and very helpful.

The public spaces are amazing - including communal patios and up-to-the-minute communal kitchen facilities on every floor.

It seems a bit out of the way but is just ten minutes from Victoria Square and a ten minutes north to the buzzing (and quite classy) east end.

The managers/owners here are to be congratulated on running a superb establishment - long may they prosper. Their approach is totally refreshing.

We recently stayed at the Adabco when in Adelaide for a wedding. We were pleasantly surprised by what a nice hotel this as it was such a bargain! The rooms were really big and absolutely spotless. The facilties were really good. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the included breakfast which was just loaves of bread and a bit of cereal but for $100 a night, we weren't disappointed we just went out!

First, you should know the previous name of the hotel--The Wakefield Residence. This is important as the airport transfer people, tour companies, etc. have not learned the new name (despite the fact that Adabco has been its name for over six months, I am told).

All of the staff I interacted with at this fine hotel were outstanding, especially Ray, the front desk manager. He was so helpful with every little thing. The room was very nice, decorated with modern touches. The bathroom, while quite small, is sort of glamorous. The building itself, on the historic registry, has a quite beautiful facade.

Adelaide is quite small, so everything is walkable from the Adabco. Nothing is right next door (except for the hospital) but nothing is more than a 20 minute walk either. If you stay here, be sure to go to the "precinct" to the right of the hotel as you go out the front door. There are great restaurants, shops, and pubs much closer (and calmer) than the ever popular Rundle Street. A very basic breakfast is included (toast and cereal).

We arrived at the hotel at 8-30am, having just disembarked from the Indian Pacific, in the hope that they would store our luggage until our afternoon check-in. What a pleasant surprise to hear from Ray on the front desk that we could access our room immediately, and even partake in the continental breakfast that was currently being served! Having booked this hotel expecting cheap and cheerful, we were extremely pleased at what a nice, neat and tidy establishment it is, with everything in its place. Rooms are modern and functional, breakfast is basic, and there is a well kept laundry room and spotless central kitchen facilities. Very well located with only a 3 block walk to the square, trams and central market. Highly recommended!
