We booked a room here, not expecting anything flash, but clean and comfortable for the price. When we saw the room we were shocked to find the bed was unstable, terrible quality, no way I could have slept on it. The sheets were clean and looked fairly new, but the 1 very thin cover was coloured brown with age and looked dirty. The overall cleanliness of the room was quite dirty. The door to the room and the door leading to the balcony do not seal, so don't expect any relief from the noisy street and bar below. We couldn't stay, so booked a room elsewhere, when we checked out (on the same day as checking in) the manager came down and started trying to argue with me about how new and great quality the furnishings were! I had to walk out with him still raving at me as I was leaving to get away from him! Terrible room, terrible service, way overpriced.

This is a lovely traditional old hotel built in the 1800's with long wide verandahs on the top floor and a cute little beer garden out by the road side. The staff were friendly and helpful and I always saw the cleaner in the mornings changing the sheets and doing the bathrooms. However this is where the cuteness ends. I found our hotel room stuffy, hot and incredibly noisy! We stayed in room 26 which gets the sun all morning and most of the day, so this makes the room very hot indeed - there was no air-con only a ceiling fan which did very little to move air around the room. Our room has access to the lovely wide verandah but unfortunately it also looks over the Central Market and the Coles loading dock so at some ridiculous hour of the morning the trucks and fork lifts and vans start loading and unloading stock. The noise from all this commotion meant we had to shut the double doors to the verandah which made the room much hotter and stuffier!!! I thought an internal room away from the loading dock and the main 4 lane road out the front would have been better but i noticed that the internal rooms over-look another beer garden which plays loud music late at night!! I am usually fairly forgiving of hotels but i found that at the end of the day I was not looking forward to going back to the hot, noisy oven that was our room. Great location near the awesome Central Market (you must visit the market for delicious food) but i recommend staying somewhere else while in Adelaide.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 26 or any of the rooms that face the main 4 lane road out the front of the hotel...

it cheap and does the job, was in town for one night and wanted somewhere cheap , rooms are old but comfortable , bathrooms (communal) again basic and OLD.

I have no complaints with the staff and food etc downstairs, if you book, expect a typical country style pub accomodation - rustic !

Room Tip: dont get a room near the bathrooms

called in for dinner with 2 friends before a show at the Her Majesty's Theatre next door (its also across the road from the Adelaide Central Market).
I had the eye fillet steak which was good although it came with a potato bake but no greens, reasonable quality piece of meat though for the money & cooked well.
My friends had the angus beef schnitzel which they said was one of the better they'd had but once again the vegies were pretty average.
Bar staff just pull beers and really know nothing about the menu, they need to educate their bar staff on what the kitchen is offering. General training on the food and how to pull a consistently good beer wouldn't go astray).
The bar is cosy though with an open fire and comfortable seating, good choice of beers and reasonable wine list. Nothing really like it in the near vicinity so if you're just after a comfortable place for a drink and a feed, its OK.

This is the worst place i have ever stayed. Totally overpriced for what it is. The rooms are grubby and filthy. Even a simple place could do with a bit cleaning. My room smelled like cigartetts. It was very very noisy. I was woken up up 1:30 am with over an hour of loud music even that the pub was rather empty when i arrived on a Sunday night. I assume the staff had a party once the guest left!
Then i got woken up again at 4 am by the rubbish truck that was loading from the central market opposite of my room.As well for over 1 hour. All in all i would say stay somewhere else!!!!!!

The pub seemed nice but the Hotel side of things was horror and overpriced!!!

Room Tip: If you have to stay there make sure it is not a room that faces the main road!

In Adelaide doing some business and normally stay at Allegra Rendezvous but found this pub last time I was here. Half the price (which means more TA to spend on drinks) but really comfortable pub accom. I was there for 4 nights total. Both rooms I had were similar and comfortable. (Sorry Metro crew, I didn't want to tick Average but I couldn't say Very Good...maybe these guys need a 3 1/2 rating dot??)
Got to know some of staff (and owners Damo & Matt) downstairs and they just run a bloody excellent pub. Great food and too much good beer!

See you next time.

Room Tip: Front rooms on Grote St get a bit of traffic noise in the morning but streets almost deserted at nig...
