During a recent trip to Adelaide, we were looking for a spot of lunch around Rundle Mall, and specifically did not want food court fare or take-away franchise food.

We stumbled across the First Lounge Bar & Restaurant on Rundle Mall.

We headed in, perused the menu, sat down and ordered.

The staff were very polite and friendly, and quickly served us.

There is an extensively-stocked bar, but we weren't in the mood for wine at the time.

We ordered the chicken schnitzel and coconut-crumbed flathead. Both were reasonably priced, and my meal was quite satisfying.

Looking around the venue, we noticed the high ceilings, and quaint sofas and nooks in which to sit and relax over a drink.

Different sections of the lounge can be partitioned via sleek curtains, providing a more intimate experience for couples or groups at the lounge.

Overall, the place was quite funky and provided good food, service and atmosphere.

As we were only there for lunch, the atmosphere was subdued, but I can imagine that for dinner, especially on Friday nights, there'd be a lot more of a buzz, as the venue hosts live music.

Well worth visiting.

enjoyed the night quiet relaxing and great meal myself and my partner both from the country and we love the restaurant and we are very fond of the little down stairs bar and tab and gaming room not crowded with young ones and or loud music just right for us.

Came here after work for a drink and then had a meal. The Richmond hotel has a basement area which is quite seedy looking but on the First Floor there is a modernised bar and restaurant area with large balcony overlooking Rundle Mall. The Friday night after work crowd was in full swing when we arrived and the place was noisy but not excessively so. The bar staff were helpful and there was plenty of choice for good wine by the glass. We choose the Stoneleigh Sav Blanc and it was a reasonable price for city restaurant.

The table seating is interesting. The area is divided up into casual lounge seating or small tables or some larger long table seating with stylish room dividers, so you can feel quite private. As all the smaller tables were taken, my friend and I shared a long table with other patron but we did not feel crowded out. We both had the seafood paella which was served in its own paella dish and was quite delicious, although I would say the consistency was more like risotto than paella! Not a cheap main course but certainly a good size meal and plenty of seafood in it....mussels, prawns, calamari etc.

I'd like to come again but would try it on a quieter evening through the week.

This restaurant is located on the upper level of the Richmond Hotel- a landmark in the Adelaide CBD shopping precinct.

It's distinctly average, with no discernible reason to commend it, when there are other preferable dining choices within a short walking distance.

That's a pity, as the restaurant has a nice balcony overlooking Rundle Mall.

I was staying at the Hotel Richmond and decided to order the seafood paella via room service. The staff were lovely but unfortunately the food was disappointing. There were four large mussels in the dish which looked lovely, however I then discovered one wasn't open (never eat the unopened ones!), one had the tiniest morself of mussel in it and the final two had nothing inside! Thankfully there were a few decent sized prawns and some calamari in there. Overall quite disappointing.
