“In the club”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

We stayed at the Intercontinental in a King Club room for one night over the weekend. We had purchased the room on a 30 day advanced purchase, which makes it quite good value. We arrived about 9.30 in the morning, but a room was available and so we were checked in and went straight up, which we appreciated greatly. The room was not big, but was well appointed and comfortable. The Club lounge is excellent and open from 7.00am to 9.00pm with breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea and drinks available from 5.30 to 7.30 in the evening. Internet access is no longer complimentary in the club, which is a pity. Service was very good overall. There was a slight hiccup with our bill, as we had been charged for use of the minibar despite not having used it, however, this was dealt with professionally by the checkout staff and no charges were made against our account. We didn't eat at the hotel, but after looking at the menu for the cafe we will next time. The beds are very comfortable but would be even better with a top sheet as well as a quilt as we got quite hot during the night.

Room Tip: The club rooms are good value when you consider that they include breakfast, pre-dinner drinks and s...

Dear Travelbugsbitten

Many thanks for your kind review after your stay with us at the InterContinental Adelaide.

We were delighted you enjoyed your stay and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your detailed feedback, which will help us to deliver further on our brand promise of great hotels - guests love!

I have spoken personally with the Club Lounge Manager who has confirmed they are in the process of installing free WiFi in the Club and the Housekeeping Department would be delighted to furnish your room with a 'top sheet' for your bed, when you next stay. If you can email me back personally with the name used for your booking, we can update your guest profile to ensure you always have a top sheet.

The devils in the detail for us, we like nothing better than to go the extra mile for all our guests with tangible actions like this and not just words. This is why guest feedback like this is so important to us.

Once again many thanks, we were delighted you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again.

We would like to invite you to join us on our Facebook Page 'InterContinental Adelaide' which is full of newsy updates and special offers.

Kind regards

Throughout our stay of two nights all staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the valet parking staff who were excellent. The hotel decor is dated but it is very clean and well maintained. Our room was reasonable spacious and the bathroom a very good size, with a large separate shower with great water pressure and a deep comfortable bath, great for soaking (grab a couple of bath bombs from Lush in the mall). The Elemis amenities in the bathroom are high quality and big smiles for having three towels (what girl does not like a towel for her hair). Only one bathrobe was a bit odd though, maybe it was an oversight?

Only issues were breakfast on Sunday, 10 minute wait to be seated, 10 min wait at coffee machine and just about every food station empty (on Saturday morning it had been excellent). Staff could just not keep up and appeared to lack direction and specific tasking. We had a 4pm check out as part of our package but on return to our room at 2pm found ourselves locked out and had to go down to reception to sort it out, then around 3.30pm while showering had housekeeping knocking on the door wanting to service the room. We would have given a top rating if these issues had not arisen as we really enjoyed our stay.

We were at Inter Continental for High Tea which was one of our Favourite place. This time the service was pathetic very disappointing. The girls who was serving us dropped hot tea twice on my hubby's hand and also on our guest. She dropped tea on our mobile phone twice and not even once she apologized. She was dropping crockery. Over all her body language & service was so rude. It was our treat for our friends. I wish I had taken them some where else:(

When I called twice to complain I was told someone will call me back. I guess the boss is as rude as the staff because till today no apology from anyone, what a shame! Five star hotel with zero customer service

Room Tip: Never go to place where you don't feel valued customer

The place emanates grandeur of a bygone era - very 80s indeed. The whole place needs a thorough refurbishment (the red marble bathroom was particularly noteworthy).

That said, the staff were all very professional and friendly, valet parking, and the room was clean (as clean as a place this old can be). Great location as well - a short walk to Hindley St.

I'd sooner choose the Oakes Plaza Pier at Glenelg next time - more modern and better views.

happiestcamper000,

Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to leave us a candid review.

We’re sorry that you found the decor of the hotel less-than-satisfactory. It is IHG's goal to consistently provide superior service and accommodations and your comments are very important to us. We are pleased you found the staff of the hotel accommodating, and hope to have the honor of serving you again should your travels bring you back to Adelaide.

The intercontinental in Adelaide is a good hotel, well located, quite, with lovely views of the Torrents River, over the city and down to the coast. It is in short walking distance to the inner city centre, museums, univercity, botanical gardens, cinema, restaurants & more.

If I had to be overly critical I'd say the room could do with an upgrade, although the bathroom seems to have been up date recently with modern fixtures and an excellent shower. The room have an odd octaginal shape with the TV positioned to the side of the bed which we found a little odd.

The hotel is clean, well run and has all the amenities necessary for a comfortable stay. The main hotel restaurant next to the lobby serves good food, I particularly enjoyed the local Barrosa valley rabbit and obviously they have a great selection of wine. Certainly worth an evening dinner.
We staying in the Club suites and therefore had access to the club lounge which is a great place to meet in the afternoon for drinks and snacks. I thought the complementary tasters served by the chef were excellent. We had breakfast in the lounge every morning which was very comfortable to relax enjoy coffee, read the news paper and plan the rest of the day.

The valet parking guys were great. they took good care of our car, helped with directions and knew all the good places to go.

All round a good hotel, certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a club suite

We stayed in a King River View Room, which was large and comfortable. Big bathroom with somewhat colourful orange/red stone tiles, but was clean and spacious. Great view over river and cricket stadium. Room was nice and quiet.

Very convenient for city attractions, tram to beach (40 mins), station etc - better restaurants are about 15 min walk away to the west (turn left out of hotel)

Staff were good and concierge helpful.

Room service food was fine - My wife thought the Cesar Salad particularly good.

Overall a good room and good value for money
