We stayed here for 4 nights on our recent holiday to Adelaide. The room was clean and tidy, what we would expect from a 4-star hotel. The service was as expected also. The beds were very comfy and all amenities worked fine. The hotel is starting to look its age a bit. The only negative I could say really is that the bathroom could do with updating and the furniture was the original early 90's gear. We got a good deal and would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the lower floors used to be smoking rooms, we found 2 minor smoke burns on the furniture...

Spent two nights at the Grand Chancellor on Hindley. Room was quite spacious and clean. Service at the bar, front desk and restaurant (bistro) was prompt and quite good. Restaurant food is of good quality. Location is very good with regard to shopping but later at night it gets a bit dodgy and you probably would not want to be out after midnight if you aren't looking for a broad range of nightlife (putting it nicely).

We stayed at this hotel recently. I am fussy (I like my hotels clean and I value exceptional customer service!)
This hotel was quite good. The staff were obliging and helpful. Everything you need is within walking distance.
On a Saturday night its quite noisy and outside the door of the hotel you walk out to the clubbing scene of Hindley street( red light district of Adelaide). But during the day and weeknights it is quiet.
The bed was comfortable.
Buffet continental breakfast was fresh.
We would stay there again.

Room Tip: The rooms are well priced, neat and spacious. Ask for a newly renovated room.

Dropped in per chance looking for a stayover while going to footy
Very good staff & great one bed apartment on 7 th floor
No complaints at anything maybe a little bit dated decor, but offset by great value for money.
would stay again & location was excellent

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the one bed apartments still really good value

Stayed on business for three nights in March. Can be difficult to find as there is another Grand Chancellor in Currie St, just around the corner - so be careful if using your GPS as this is where it will most likely want to take you.
Was surprised when checking in as they take a $50 'deposit' for every night you are booked in - guess some people skip off without paying. They deduct anything you book up from your deposit and refund the difference.
Parking is handy, entrance is just 50 metres up the road and you use your room card to open the security door - $15/night is OK as you pay to park just about everywhere you stay in Adelaide.
Stayed in a King Executive suite - clean and tidy and quite contemporary. Breakfast was OK - nothing outstanding. Would prefer to eat elsewhere next time I'm in town.
Handy location at the seedy end of town - the whole area could do with a bit of a spruce up. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance - not exactly cheap. Would stay here again - nothing really stood out but nothing that would make you hate the place either.

We originally booked this hotel for two nights after a stay in The Barossa Valley. Our motel near Tanunda was not inviting, so we decided to cut short our stay by one night. We phoned the grand chancellor in Adelaide to find out if they had any spare rooms for us a day early. As it happened, that was the best this we could have done. They charged us less for the extra night than for the original two nights, so we were not complaining.
With the secure car parking at $15 per night, the hotel was not as cheap as some Adelaide hotels with no parking charges, but a little bit of research led us to believe that the parking charges were roughly the same as other Adelaide hotels in the same area. With the hotel only a very short walk to Rundle Mall and the rest of Adelaide city centre, we could not have asked for a better location.
As we drove up to the front of the hotel to check in, the friendly concierge directed us to their secure car park. This meant we did not have to check in with a rush before some over eager traffic warden came along and booked us. The car park is not the best to negotiate, as it is so cramped down there in the basement. All it takes is for one clever driver to park outside the marked bay, and many other drivers experience trouble getting in and out. Even if that does not happen, negotiating the cramped basement is not easy. Still, it is far better and cheaper than parking in one of the city car parks.
When we checked in, we were pleasantly surprised to be told that we had been upgraded to an executive room. Our room was on the 11th floor of the 12 floor hotel. Some of these rooms had been refurbished, and our room was one of them. My better half noticed that it was almost impossible to negotiate the very narrow gap between the bed and the writing desk. Especially as she uses a walking stick. We phoned the reception desk and explained the situation. Within a few minute the concierge had shown us into a much better room. This room was about equal in size and comfort to the high quality Asian hotel rooms we have come to expect whenever we are in that part of the world.
As there are so many small cafes in this area, we did not have breakfast, so we are unable to comment. The same with the evening meals. We were spoilt for choice in this area for food.
One thing that we both thought more hotels should adopt is their policy of giving the choice of having a room serviced or not. We hung the sign on the door for the room not to be serviced for one morning, and received a voucher from the reception to be used in their bar. Not that the voucher was the only incentive, but at least it did almost pay for a couple of drinks.
Although we were on the 11th floor. we could still hear some street noises on the Friday night. This was not excessive, but we could still hear it in the background. The noises stopped at around the time the nearby restaurants closed.
Hindley street has a bit of a reputation as Adelaide's red light district, but we had no bother at all in the area.
All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, which always helps. They have one free internet computer next to the reception desk, as well as free wifi in the lobby and bar area.
I do not know when we will be in Adelaide again, but we will certainly be staying in this hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper and and staying on a Friday or Saturday, ask for a room away from Hindley...

We chose Grand Chancellor out of desperation/Adelaide was fully booked every where or rooms were up to 3 times normal rate due to some car race on for the weekend we needed to be in Adelaide. Rate @ this hotel rate was expensive but not excessive for a Sunday night, then dropped down to a very reasonable rate for remainder of our stay.
As I said this was all we could get ,we reluctantly booked due to the reports of it being Adeliade's seedy /red-light area.
I am pleased we chose this hotel, staff were professional, helpful service on the whole was very good. Rooms were old but clean, beds 2 Queen as Twin room, Pool area and meeting area's such as Lobby Bar were clean and well priced
Breakfast buffet was poor standard, limited fresh fruits, mostly canned , processed fruit juices , eggs possibly powered / not very good for price of $23.00 PP/ mediocre, we had breakfast on first morning but didn't bother again, loads of breakfast places in the area for reasonable prices

Location was excellent, walking distance to Art Gallery , Museum , Gardens , excellent restaurants. A very pleasant over all experience, reasonably priced, clean accessible hotel, I am returning to Adelaide in April and will be staying at this hotel

Room Tip: Request higher floors as they seem to be recently updated
