“Great family stay”
Reviewed 8 June 2012 via mobile

Stayed with wife and two small children for 8 nights. Excellent central location. Good size 2 bed apartment. Friendly staff, but not especially helpful. Very Good quality room service menu, although only a short list. Small but functional kitchen. Clean and good quality fit out. 2 tv's but unable to use video-in (can't plug in iPad etc). Good value.

Only real down side: poor lighting and quite dark in the bathrooms, and no proper blinds in the living space (only sheer curtains).

Overall very happy and would definitely stay again.

Great central location. Note that at the weekends you are on your own in the city center. Take the tram to the beach or visit the wineries. No restaurants open at the weekends. The best of all the Medina locations we stayed at, but they are all good locations for those wanting more than a hotel room.

Wonderful Hotel with great suites and in perfect position in the center of Adelaide, ten minutes walk from the central Market which has to be a gem for stocking up the kitchen in your suite, also fantastic for lunch and breakfast as it is one of the few City Markets in Australia where you can eat in market area, helpful and friendly staff highly recommended, just one small but important point, please Vegemite with the breakfast basket.

We loved our spacious first floor room at the Medina. The balcony - though it was a bit chilly to use it - was really lovely and quite big. All the fixtures and fittings were lovely and obviousl fairly new. The chaise was a nice touch as were the current magazines about the locale. The lap pool in the basement was perfect for a morning swim. We found the hotel well located and we mostly explored on foot. The car park is located in the next block and is $14 per day. There is actually quite a bit of close on street parking which is unrestricted after Saturday midday. We enjoyed breakfast downstairs on Saturday - price not included with the room - and the dining room was quiet and the gas 'open fire' was lovely. I had cereal and toast - a good selection of cereals and a few breads. My companion had cooked bratwurst and poached eggs which was very nice. A little annoying was being charged $4.00 for a small glass of juice I poured for my companion before we ordered our food and I realised that no beverages were inluded in the cooked breakfast price. We would definitely stay here again as it was truly a lovely weekend.

Pros: my premier apartment was nice enough, lovely classic style building with delightful courtyard, good swimming pool and proximity to CBD. Liked the high ceilings, sense of space in the apartment and my balcony overlooking the town hall cafe area. Good welcome and polite service at reception. Unobtrusive staff.

Cons: paid over $220 a night and thought it tight that they charge you for newspapers, when most top end hotels include them. I was awoken at 540am EVERY morning by a mechanical leaf blower on the cafe courtyard below. Very annoying.

I'd avoid rooms 50 and above on the first floor as they are located above a bar and restaurant. Seemed noisy in the corridor when I passed by!

Dear Britpop73

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury. We really appreciate your positive comments about our Hotel features and facilities.

Rest assured we will investigate the noise issue with the leaf blower, while the hotel does not have any gardening and/or cleaning at that time of the morning, we occasionally have the council provide the street sweeping/cleaning in our area.

We look forward to welcoming you back one day soon.

As locals we occassionally book into a city hotel to enjoy a night out from the kids and to walk to restaurants and shows without worrying about drinking and the drive home. We spotted a cheap deal for this hotel on a last minute booking website, so decided to try this hotel out. The reception and lobby area was fairly understated, and as we walked through the halls to our room everything looked very tired, like it was a long time ago that this building was renovated. However, when we entered our room we were pleasantly surprised, with modern furnishings and decor, comfortable king size bed, separate bedroom, with a TV in both the bedroom and sitting room. there was also a small kitchen which would suit people having a longer stay who wanted to prepare some meals. The bathroom was on the small side, with the bath bordering on the small side, but all clean and convenient. There was some traffic noise from King William Street (the main city thoroughfare) and the post office clock chiming every 15 minutes, although this stopped by 11pm and didn't recommence until 8am. The Medina is in a great location, we walked to Gouger street restaurant strip for dinner and it's also very close walking distance to the main shopping area of Rundle Mall. The historical photos around the hotel were quite interesting, so guests could appreciate the historical significance of the buiding, but that wasn't my priority.
The room was sold as a 4.5star, and I think that was being a tad optimistic. It was clean, comfortable and pleasant, but I would expect a better room service menu, fluffier towels and more of a 'wow factor'. We were also disappointed that the spa was closed for maintenance, although the lap pool looked pleasant enough, we really wanted to use the spa. I would be very happy stay in a hotel like this for business travel (although I suspect full rates would be a bit on the pricey side) but for a special night out or a holiday, I think I'd try somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: Lots of fabulous eateries at the Adelaide Central Markets for breakfast or at Gouger Street for othe...

Dear AdeleAdelaide

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury. I will ensure the team is aware of your great feedback in regards to the room and hopefully when you return next, our expected refurbishment of the hallways will be completed (including new carpet) to compliment the rich history of the building.

We do apologise for the spa being closed for repairs, we unfortunately experienced some unexpected maintenance and we hope to see you back to enjoy the spa especially during winter on your next visit to Adelaide.

Stayed here for business as everything else in ADL was fully booked or over priced... Rooms are generous and clean, however..... The room service menu is very ordinary, over priced and only available from 6-9pm... The pub downstairs allows people to smoke in a small court yard and the smell wafts up the stairwells. The rooms around the court yard a noisy until late also because of the pub. The car parking facilities are cheap at $14 per day..but they are a block away and its difficult to find a spot.

Would only use this place again as a last resort..

Room Tip: Don't stay near the courtyard

Dear BBLJ

Thank you for your feedback in regards to your stay at the Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury. Our Housekeeping department fully appreciates the great comments in regards to our room’s cleanliness.

I will ensure the Restaurant Manager is aware of your concerns in regards to meal pricing and room service availability. While the Treasury Restaurant is a popular establishment in the Adelaide CBD (especially on Friday nights with the courtyard closing at 11pm), the hotel does offer rooms away from the courtyard for those guests who prefer a quiet room. For future stays our team at Reception/Reservations will be happy to notate your preference during the time of making the reservation.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury.
