“Great location for a reasonably priced city centre hostel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2013

We stayed 2 nights at the Blue Galah Adelaide in October 2012 in a 8 bed mixed dorm. Our room was a good size, but didn't have a huge amount of storage for the amount of people which made it quite messy. The lounge area is good - with a tv and computers. The bathrooms are quite clean and the hostel in general has a really nice atmosphere. The kitchen is tiny but is designed well so that there can be a few people cooking at once. Fortunately we didn't experience any issues with too many people being around, but I can imagine at peak times it could get quite busy. It offers free breakfast and rice which is a big plus when you're travelling! The hostel is in a great location, easily walkable to the train station and many of the city's attractions. For a city centre hostel, it was pretty shabby and could do with a bit of a clean up but in general we enjoyed our time here and would certainly come back again and reccommend it to others.

The hostel is good enough to stay there for a while. They clean regularly and the toilets are old but clean. The problem is that they do not clean everything and just superficial so you probably find condoms and other stuff underneath or next to your bed.
The linen is clean as well, just the matraces are disgusting.

The staff weren't friendly and the rooms were very small. I was in a room of 4 and it was very cramped. Thankfully my roomies were my fellow travelers, otherwise I would not be too comfortable with the idea of being in a very tight space with others. Although the patio with the bar at the top was great and I was able to sleep alright, I wouldn't recommend this hostel.

Room Tip: Pick a smaller room, less noise and disruptions from others

Had no choice but to stay here due to the Big Day Out festival causing a shortage of rooms in the city but would never stay here again out of choice.

Firstly the rooms are tiny, 6 people crammed into a tiny room. There is nowhere to leave bags and so it was difficult to actually open the door due to all the bags on the floor. The walls are paper thin, you can hear every conversation in the rooms next door, nevermind the bar and party on the balcony which eventually got shut down by Police in the early hours. Certainly not a place to stay if you want a good nights sleep.

This place was full of long termers who were living there and they treated it as a student house rather than a public hostel. It was dirty, incredibly noisy and the basically full of people drinking all day every day making as much noise as possible. Very disappointing and uncomfortable stay. On the positive side the location is excellent near the centre of Adelaide

Where to start? The location was fantastic! Check in was a little slow, however, the girl had just started so that was fine. Everyone has to learn somewhere. The rooms were very small for the number of beds in the room. We had 8 people in the group so it was very crowded and not much storage space. The balcony was fantastic which included a bar. It had specials on saturday nights so it was great to get pissed there then go out.

The bathrooms weren't the cleanest but the showers had good pressure. Overall for the price we paid it was a good experience and would stay there again

I've stayed in hostels all over the world; this place ranks somewhere near the bottom. If you like being kept awake by other people's loud drunken conversations and don't mind showering in other people's grime you might enjoy staying here! The carpets look like someone has vomited on them, floors weren't cleaned the whole 5 days we were there, same bits of hair, soap scum and forgotten clothing in the showers the whole time too. Walls are really thin, can hear everything in adjoining rooms. The front door was kicked in and the lock destroyed while we were there, didn't feel super safe. I would HATE to be stuck in here in a fire -everyone would DIE for sure. The gas leaks in the kitchen, pretty dodgy, just as well they switch it off at night.
Good things? Central location, helpful desk staff. Otherwise a COMPLETE dive!

We did not enjoy our stay in this backpacker. The friendliness of the staff left to be desired, the cleanliness of our room was really terrible (bugs on my mattress, dirty mattresses, not vacuumed etc.), the room was really small for 4 people, the water of the showers was cold... The only positif thing was the location.
