If you're staying in Adelaide for more than a couple of nights, Buxton Manor is really worth consideration. This wonderful old building has been divided into self-contained apartments of varying configurations. We stayed in the Garden and Loft Apartment. Downstairs there were 2 bedrooms, a good size living room, well equipped kitchen with a dining table to seat 8, bathroom and entry to the garden. Upstairs was another double bedroom. At around $270 a night, this apartment would easily accommodate 6 people so is great value. There are lots of interesting antiques, photos and paintings around the apartment from early in SA's history which is a bonus. The property has off street parking and is conveniently located to city and North Adelaide cafes and shops. Definitely worth a try.

Stayed for 2 nights in the Musica Viva appt. it was a bit like staying in a museum, with high Victoriana everywhere. The dark furnishings and heavy curtains made it very dark, needing lights to see even during the daytime. The lounge used to be the billiard room, so was huge. We didn't find it very comfortable, but the antique bed was fine. The bathroom is completely modern, with only a shower. I would have loved a roll top bath in keeping with the rest of the flat. IThe kitchen was disappointing, more 1950 than period, and everything a little worn.
The fridge was filled with plentiful supplies for breakfast on a DIY basis.
The owner came to introduce herself and is obviously very proud of the accommodation. We however were a bit underwhelmed.

Stunning accomadation in the heart of Adelaide. This manor is a real treat and something very special, taking in the the charms of yesteryear, surrounded by antiques and the most exceptional gardens. Stayed with my two adult sons in the three bedroom quarters out the back, where we were able to sit under the verandah and enjoy every minute of the beatifully maintained gardens. Inside is like being in bedknobs and broomsticks, outside as stated and a wee stroll to the cafes, resteraunts and pubs of North Adelaide. Really worth every penny and a very special place.

I have stayed at Buxton Manor and loved every minute of it. This beautiful, historic, warm, welcoming property is one of Adelaide, Australia's rare jewels. Authentic well appointed antique furnishings fill each room. Buxton is surrounded by beautiful gardens.

When we discover that this manor was part of adelaide heritage buildings we thought interesting to spend a night in a place full of history.
in fact the manor was house of one of the contributor to the writing of australian Constitution.
The house in redbrickstone is in a nice neighbourhood pretty residential, so there are only villas and private house in the nearby streets. I strongly recommend to rent a car while there otherwise there is pretty nothing around.
We went into the Musica Viva apartment. All of them have been remodeled and refreshed but mantain the typical furnitures of last century. Our apartment on the street level had a huge living room-dining room, a big bedroom, a separate extra bed and a kitchen. everything equipped old style...
The onwer came by to introduce himself and giving us some tips about where to go and what to do. Overall the experience was nice even if i found the property a little bit too much old style... a lot of velvets, heavy curtainds, big dark furnitures...
Of course was good and interesting to stay in such historical place but i found it very heavy atmosphere inside.

Room Tip: Don't pick Musica Viva, the other apartments are more modern and more tastefully decorated.

We travel extensive and this is one of the nicest places we've ever stayed. The furnishings are delightful, pleasing and comfortable. We stayed for 4 days and enjoyed every minute of it. Our 8 year old grand daughter was with us and was thrilled to have her own room. We all enjoyed the beautiful outdoor gardens. We also met Mr. & Mrs. Twiss (owners) and they were most gracious host. Our stay could not have been better and when back in Adelaide we will definitely stay at Buxton Manor again

We, my family and I did not quite know what to expect on our arrival at Buxton Manor. When we arrived we were absolutely astonished! No matter where we looked and what we saw, that was an amazing experience. It took as twice as long to settle down because of everything we just had to look at eand took photos of! We really experienced how it wwould feel to stay there a good couple of years ago. We know enough of history to appreciate every painting, every piece of furniture, every decoration, the light fittings, the carpets, the linen, the layout - everything was just perfect!
Thank you so much for the lovely stay! We will come back!!!

Room Tip: Go for anything and hope you get accommodation!
