“Pretty, but no big deal...”

This LED display covers up two sides of a car park above a Hungry Jacks outlet, so it could be argued that it helps to improve the aesthetics of the area. By all means have a look if you happen to be in the vicinity at night, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

“Wouldn't make a special trip”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 December 2013

This is interesting if you happen to be in the area but nothing more. As others say, it is bright and colourful but also meaningless.

“Best seen at night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

This is an illuminated decoration placed on the side of a city car park.

As such, it's best seen at night.

If you're visiting the city, it's worth looking at if you're in the vicinity, but I wouldn't make a special trip, unless this kind of thing particularly appeals to you.

To be fair, some people have criticised this as being a waste of time and money.

However, my view is that it does improve the aesthetics of the area, as it is an interesting and dynamic decorative facade for a car park building. The bright colors provide a cheerful background to city life!

“Bright, colourful, fun, environmentally-friendly, smart art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2013

It’s a brightly coloured light show, displayed on what I believe to be LED light panels. The panels are attached to the otherwise un-noteworthy exterior of two sides of a 9 level car park complex, situated at the intersection of Pulteney Street and Rundle Street. It’s across the road from one end of Rundle Mall (a pedestrian only shopping precinct) and is immediately above Hungry Jacks (a fast food outlet).

Other points:
- It’s free.
- It’s hard to miss the Rundle Lantern if you’re in the area at night.
- During the day, the light panels are non-descript and just form a part of the architecture of the car park complex.
- The lights are switched on at around dusk each day.
- Some designs are more striking and colourful than others.
- It’s an attraction in itself but it also adds atmosphere to the surrounding area.
- The public can get involved in the design process via the Rundle Lantern website (http://rundlelantern.com.au/).
- It's claimed that the attraction is solar-powered, carbon-neutral. I have no reason to believe otherwise.
- I think it’s worth a look, if you’re in Adelaide.
- I suggest combining a viewing of the Rundle Lantern with a walk down Rundle Mall and Rundle Street. Late night shopping occurs on Fridays, meaning that the shops in Rundle Mall will be open until 9pm.
