“Great location just waiting to be reinvented”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

We love the location of this place right in the heart of North Adelaide on O'Connell St. The building is dated with some still very nice touches. The rooms are generously sized and everything is clean; generally the rooms are still ok but it won't be long and they will need to spend money on this place.
Breakfast was not quite as dazzling as I would like for a mini break experience. The dining room was empty and the nice tables by the pool-view were set for dinner rather than breakfast which we didn't realise at first, taking the table we most liked instead of the plain ones set aside for breakfast. When the waitress re-entered the room (she was absent when we arrived) we were informed that we were at the wrong type of table, but generously said that we could stay there anyway. I just thought that sort of table segregation was a bit unnecessary.
I've decided that it's not good value for money once you add in your breakfast cost but it is convenient if you are looking for a place in North Adelaide.

Decided at the last minute as was going out in the city with friends to stay overnight in Adelaide. Checked out wotif and saw that the Old Adelaide had a great weekend deal with free breakfast and free car parking! Staff were friendly and the room was nice with great black out curtains so we could sleep in... The bed and pillows were awesome too and we both had a great sleep. The Old Adelaide is in a great location, a short walk to Adelaide Oval and the CBD. Great value!

The night was good, bed very comfortable, corner SPA Ok but could have been larger, STAFF pleasant and friendly, the service was very good, but the Hotel is in "URGENT NEED" of upgrading and revamping with a complete interior and exterior freshen up with painting and general overall modern up of appliances, in keeping with it's image

Old this Hotel Is. Well past it 'use by date' as soon as you walk in it likes stepping back 30 yrs. The reception area is tired and so are the rooms. Saving grace that they were clean. Appliances like the TV/ Heating seem to not work properly. Kettle had rust on it. The bathroom again very very tired looking. Good thing was there was plenty of hot water. Beds are very hard, i felt like i was sleeping on the floor. Free parking out the front. Won't be back here in a hurry there are far better places to stay. As others have quite rightly stated it is NOT a 4* property which is how they advertise it ( Very Naughty!!!! ) More like a 2+.

Nothing annoys me faster in a so-called 'quality' hotel than unnecessary cheapness - like not providing hand towels, and only one facecloth for two guests, or exactly 3 instant coffee sachets, 3 tea bags, stingy and inadequate milk for coffee and tea making etc. Injunctions in the bathroom about water and power usage when the shower has a drip are also irritating.

So I was annoyed at this hotel from the start. The bed was hard, the room layout peculiar and not particularly user friendly, and the promised 'fridge' was stuffed full of minibar merchandise, so of very little use to us.

My husband just picked up a piece of broken wine glass from the carpet on his side of the bed too - great housekeeping!

Guest noise is a problem with both the sound of doors being slammed at all hours and thin walls meaning we could hear the bloke next door snoring (not very loudly but perfectly clearly, as if he was in the same room as us.) The airconditioning was way too noisy and cold to use all night, and there was mechanical noise like a compressor which ran until late evening too, coming from outside the room.

Other than the broken glass, the room was clean enough and the decor not too dated. Concierge staff were helpful. Luggage has to be dragged up a front flight of stairs even to the ground floor, and there are no lifts inside if you are staying on higher floors.

Appears to cater to sports fans and business people, rather than couples on holidays. Not the worst hotel I've stayed in on this trip, but not exactly a luxurious or welcoming experience, so if you're planning a special trip to Adelaide for you and your beloved, I'd go somewhere else.

We enjoyed everything except we could not get ABC TV most of the time. Other than that everything was great. Especially happy friendly service. And the location is the best in Adelaide. Walking distance from everything worth seeing in adelaide and posts to do straight out the door.

Room Tip: We were on ground floor and it was fine.
