We stayed at the Stuart Range Caravan Park after travelling through Uluru and Alice Springs. I understand that water is scarce but as others had said the fact that you put 20c in the slot and only got a tepid shower was disapointing. The sites are basic, they need to be raked to take away the larger stones so it is a bit more even at your caravan door. Overall we felt safe and were pleased to have somewhere decent to stay after experiencing some very basic facilities in other parks. I think we often forget how isolated places like Cooper Pedy are and the fact that people are happy to live there and offer a service is appreciated, I know I couldn't live in some of the most out of way places. Good luck!

We are currently staying in the park on the first of two nights. Gauging from some negatives posted on this site I wasn't sure whether it was ok. As soon as I walked into the reception I could see the owners where ploughing money into this park. Massive renovations where going on to the office building but the woman on reception was both cheerful and efficient. On directing us to the caravan powered sites we where able to choose which site we wanted which is great as we wanted the afternoon sun, the sites are huge and easy to axcess even with a 6.5 mtr van. Sure the sites are gravel but remember where you are. The new amenities block and camp kitchen is the best I've seen, and on using the shower it was great, I shower quick so 20c was ok maybe if you like a longer shower 40c might be needed. There is sullage outlets but no water to individual sites which is probably the same at all caravan parks in the town. Congratulations to the owners, I can see that you are ploughing heaps of dollars into this venture and I'm sure in no time it will be a show piece.

We stayed one night here on our way north, we planed to return here when we are coming back. This is the highest rated park in Coober Pedy, a bit disappointing really. Coin operated showers that didn't work. The sites were pretty average but adequate, all in all I think we may try another park on the way home

The place to stay in Coober Pedy especially if you have a caravan.
Good facilities and great pizza bar.
Rationed water but you expect that, coin operated showers that can be temperamental, just don't put in more than one coin to start with.
Recommend tour, you will see more than moseying around yourself .
Other parks looked very cramped by comparison.

we stayed for 2 nights at this park as we traveled north, and were very pleasantly surprised. Due to the scarcity of water, there was none available on-site, but we were not far from a very nice camp kitchen where there was no shortage of lovely hot water for doing the dishes....and a huge TV where everyone sat for an evening watching some kind of football game!!!....neither my husband nor I had any problems with the showers, and luckily, we had plenty of 20c pieces just in case. the addition of benches in the showers would certainly be well received i think...
on booking in, we were offered a voucher, giving 3c per litre fuel discount at a local station, which was very nice, and indeed unexpected...and also the option of a guided tour the next day, which we thought would be good, and it certainly was good value for money, we had a lovely afternoon, with a very competent guide, and finished off the day with a pizza in the park pizza bar.....I would highly recommend this park, we were more than happy...

Hi,
Thankyou we work hard at creating an enjoyable park for all to enjoy particularly in the last few years we have had major renovations/refurbishments. Our new restaurant and pizzeria will be complete in a few weeks so next time you are through you can enjoy this also.
We have installed our stylish benches in the showers now, so all is well.
We appreciate your feedback.

Kind Regards
Management

We stayed here on our way to Alice Springs and on the way back. This is the second time we have stayed here - our first being over 10 years ago.

We love this caravan park. Great facilities (especially the kids playground!), beautiful pizza restaurant on site, well equipped camp kitchen and plenty of sites.

As many others have pointed out, water is scarce - so there was no water connection on the site. We had a lot of problems with the showers on the way up...we'd put our 20c in and we had tepid water at the most (ending up using around $1 )). Considering I was trying to shower to young children at the time I wasn't overly happy, BUT when we stayed on the way back signs had been put up in the amentities block stating that benches were being installed soon (YAY!) and that if you put your 20c in and you have no hot water you have to go and turn on the tap at the sink to "kick in" the solar hot water service.

A few other guests and I were discussing this trying to work out how we could do that when a) you are in the middle of a shower and you have to race out and turn on the hot water at the basin and b) you are using up your "paid water" while you are running out to try and get the hot water going. While I was there, a lady stuck her head out of the shower asking if by any chance I had some spare 20c pieces as she had put 60c in and no hot water - even after turning on the taps at the basins. Luckily I did, and I turned on a few of the sinks while she jumped back in (poor lady had just shampooed her hair and hadn't rinsed it out!). Hopefully this will be rectified soon. Apparently (according to my husband) the mens are fine!

If they can sort out the above problem we'd highly recommend staying here.

Hi,
Thankyou for your review.
We had been looking into this issue at the time.
We have a new solar hot water service and in the mornings you need to let the water run to get hot water, like most households do. This ignites the instantaneous gas hot water.
All the showers run from the same service ally so men's and woman's are the same, but if you go into the first shower the water has further to run to, so it may seem to take along time.

Since your stay we have fixed this issue. But first thing in the morning the water needs to run a bit to get hot like any household.

Kind regards
Management

After some strong recommendations, we took a family and whilst somewhat reminiscent of the 1970's, the standard room was functional, tidy, clean, but very small. A bit unorganised, with no record of our booking which was made over the phone, but still represented the best value we had seen between Coober Pedy and Uluru. The pizzas were reasonable, and good value for a family. There was an extreme difference between the standard rooms and the new suites.
