Its cool to do something different and underground camping i for sure didnt do before. The couple who runs the place is a bit older and gives a tour every night through the mines. For only $5 so thats good. It was nice it was ok.

Slightly out of town but provides genuine underground camping experience. Great hospitality including mine tour given my Rick, great guy and experienced opal miner. Camping underground provides a cool temperature and peaceful atmosphere. Discount vouchers for the thriving metropolis of Coober Pedy provided upon check in. Clean bathroom, easy parking, don't forget your head torch.

So glad that we picked Riba's - out of town a little, quite and friendly. It was very safe to leave the caravan and site see. The mine tour was very good. Had a look at the underground accom. very nice and of course cool. Kitchen & bathroom ammen. very nice. We are all long way from the comforts of home - Riba's felt homely. Will stay there again.
Oct 2012.

Room Tip: Very cool underground

Of all the places we stayed in during our month in Australia, Riba’s was easily my favorite. The budget rooms are simple but awesome: just a bed and a couple of shelves, wedged into an underground room carved in the rocks. The room was absolutely spotless, the bed was incredibly comfortable, the linens were fresh, and the shared bathrooms were clean. And the room was really, really cheap by Australian standards ($65 for a double). What more could we want?

Rick and Barbara are pretty rad people, too. We had a great conversation with Barbara when we checked in, and we loved Rick’s mine tour—he’ll give you a great sense of what life is really like for Coober Pedy’s opal miners.

One minor warning: the sound really echoes underground, so if you’re a light sleeper, you might not love the underground rooms (or underground campsites) as much as we did. Still highly recommended, though.

Loved staying here. As it was off-peak season we shared the place with only 8 other people. Winter is a great time to come to C.P as stores are all to happy to reduce prices, sleeping underground is a LOT warmer than sleeping above ground and this is definitely the place to do it! Barbara gave us a wonderful welcome and provided us with 500 times more information than the tourist office managed to give. Rick's tour was also informative and let you have some pre-digging hands on time. If I ever come this way again I will stay here because of the experience and the people. There is shower facility here, just be prepared to keep it quick as water is scarce in C.P and pressure is enough to have a quick shower. When we were there the tv and Internet weren't working but nothing that bothered us as what do you want the tele for when you're on holidays. But again, great service and experience and on a budget you can't complain at all about the price!! Thanks Riba's and hopefully see you again another day.
